🇺🇸 VETERANS — I NEED YOU TO READ THIS.
I served my country.
I spent years putting my life on the line, believing that when you came home, you could finally build a safe and decent life for yourself and your family.
I never imagined that one of the hardest battles I would face would come from people I trusted.
My wife and I had a boat at Holly Bluff Marina. That boat wasn’t just a recreational toy. It was our HOME. It represented years of work, sacrifice, money, and everything we had managed to build.
Then our lives were turned upside down.
Our vehicle was stolen.
Our boat was taken from us.
And instead of feeling like we had somewhere safe to keep our property, we were left trying to figure out how something this devastating could happen and how we were supposed to fight our way through it.
What makes this hurt so much is the people and circumstances surrounding what happened.
I am a disabled veteran.
After everything veterans are told about loyalty, integrity, looking after the person beside you, and having each other’s backs, it’s a hell of a feeling to come home and eventually find yourself wondering who you can actually trust.
I’m not asking anyone to blindly believe me.
I’m not asking anyone to attack anybody.
I’m asking veterans to pay attention.
If you’re a veteran, if you own a boat, if you’re living aboard, if you’re storing your property somewhere, or if you’re trusting someone with something you’ve spent years working for:
DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.
Keep your titles.
Keep your contracts.
Keep your receipts.
Screenshot your conversations.
Photograph your property.
Don’t assume someone’s word is enough.
Because when everything goes wrong, memories don’t matter nearly as much as documentation.
And if you think, “That could never happen to me,” I hope you’re right.
Because I wouldn’t wish this experience on another veteran.
The hardest part isn’t just losing property.
It’s watching something you worked your ass off for disappear and realizing that the people and place you trusted didn’t give you the security you thought you had.
That’s the part that stays with you.
So I’m putting our experience out there because veterans look out for veterans.
If you’ve had an experience with Holly Bluff Marina, good or bad, tell your story.
If you were treated fairly, say so.
If you weren’t, say so.
Let people hear the experiences and decide for themselves.
But before you hand over your boat, your vehicle, your money, or your trust to ANY marina:
Do your homework.
Because I learned the hard way that trusting the wrong people can cost you far more than money.
