Report Review
As others have said, Rosario has fallen on hard times since it sold two years ago. The marina and grill are being leased to 3rd parties by the new owners (as are overnight accommodations), so they are up and running; the grill is only open Thur-Mon. Menu and food is about the same as before. Store is gone. Pool, showers, restrooms open (but ran out of TP) and free to boaters even though the website says there is a $10/day per person fee. Dock hands are inconsistent, so be sure and radio ahead if you need docking assistance. The lodge, which is "closed for renovation" , is locked and there is no activity. A peek through the windows reveals that tables, furniture, signs, posters, etc. are left from the day they closed it. What a shame. New owners had a hard time securing financing to complete the purchase and apparently do not have the capital or banking relationships for a construction loan. They are milking what they can to get some cash flow, deferring maintenance. Expect no improvements.
I heard from the neighbors that the marina is on a five-year lease. They seem to be working hard to get operations back up to snuff.
After 40 years of visits, we decided to stop in this year mostly to hike in the park and to eBike to Eastsound and Buck Bay. The annoying thing is that moorage fees are higher at Rosario than Deer Harbor or Roche, but we paid, so I guess they can get away with charging them.
With the "Harbor Grill" open, and the marina full, and Kenmore Air dropping in and out, the vibe was positive and fun once we got past our own personal grief for the better days with Christopher Peacock at the Music Room organ with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc after a brisk sail up always breezy Eastsound.
