Beware of Cay Marine Miami – My Experience as a Boat Owner I feel compelled to warn fellow boat owners about my negative experience with Cay Marine in Miami. For example a bottom paint job, usually the haul out is included and haul in, but what I encountered was excessive and, in my opinion, unethical billing practices and poor service. Here’s what happened: Triple Charging: They charged me for marine yard insurance even though I already had full insurance coverage on my boat. Double Billing for Haul-Out: I was billed for both hauling out and splashing the boat twice – even though haul-out is typically included with bottom painting jobs. Mechanical Negligence: When they splashed my boat, it couldn’t go into forward gear. Every day, they allegedly found something else wrong with my vessel, they even tried to tell me, my stuffing box needed replaced- that's when I stood up to the manager.  EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THE STUFFING BOX IS NO GOOD? CRACKED ? HOW ARE YOU DETERMINING THIS DECISION ?  ANSWER: OH, OK YOU WANT ME TO JUST CLEAN IT AND PUT IT BACK ON THE VESSEL?  We clearly could see, they were not experienced, they had to send the work off to other companies, so the client pay for CAY, runner, other company, and it was frustrating every single day. NEVER AGAIN, AND WE HEAR OTHER NEGATIVE STORIES ON CAY NEGLECT, POOR DECISIONS, AND PRICE GAUGING.  Wiring Delay: It took three men an entire day just to wire a single bilge pump, which was incredibly inefficient and costly. I found the management, especially the owner, to be ruthless and cutthroat, wife was a delight, but the level of nerve the mister has assuming he can price gauge and insult people. In my opinion, the way they operate is worse than dealing with an insurance company dispute — this yard put profit over people at every step. I strongly recommend boaters think twice before trusting their vessels to Cay Marine. Transparency, fair pricing, and qualified service should be the standard — unfortunately, I didn’t receive any of that here.
