New Haven Harbor |
Transient power or sail boaters will find their ideal home-away-from-home at Pequonnock's top-tier location while enjoying a stunning panoramic view on the west shore of New Haven Harbor. The surrounding neighborhood is historic City Point district of New Haven which is a stone's throw from a variety of attractions in the downtown area. Tie up at the assigned mooring or slip and check in at the bar in the clubhouse to receive a keycard for access to club facilities and docks; just ring the buzzer by the door for guest entry.
Our floating docks offer power and water making your stay comfortable and safe on our protected docks while take advantage of our upstairs clubhouse, shower and coin-operated laundry facilities, and the 4-star oyster bar and restaurant, Shell and Bones, on our first floor. In addition, outdoor BBQ stations are available for use along the deck. Our clubhouse offers a small bar menu with locally prepared pizzas, hotdogs, and small meals if you're looking for a quick bite.
Our marina offers a fuel dock with Valvtec marine diesel and gas with our friendly dock staff there to assist Wed-Sun 10a-6p; the gas dock is closed Mon-Tues. Our recently renovated mooring field is also available just outside of our seawall entrance. The club installed Helix Mooring Systems in 2020 so whether you're staying one night or long term, you can rest easy knowing your vessel and equipment are safe. Although we do not offer launch service, we do have an available dingy dock in the marina, We look forward to seeing you this boating season.
Nice place for a mooring. Very friendly staff. New Haven isn't exactly a tourist destination, but this place was a good stop.
Helpful person at the bar at the club gave advice and the key card. It was a pleasant night stay on the ball there. Very close to the LIRR station (5 min uber) to drop off my wife who had to return home early.
Great location and facilities. Very friendly people. Top notch restaurant. Please note, there is no launch service. You'll need dinghy.
All good. Easy in and easy out. Nice people and great restaurant
This is a beautiful Yacht Club with excellent amenities (showers, washer and dryer for washing clothes) and a panoramic view of New Haven's Harbor. It has an excellent bar with extremely friendly bar staff. There's also a first-floor restaurant that is not part of the Yacht Club but also serves the upstairs Yacht Club. The only downsides to this destination are that they have no launch service, no dedicated dinghy docks, and when the wind is blowing in from the Sound there's an ungodly foul order from a nearby water treatment facility; I first thought there was a sewer treatment facility nearby.
We enjoyed our two day stay on a mooring and appreciated your wonderful bathrooms that are air conditioned and had hooks and a bench and a toilet and sink All in one spot making it extremely functional The bar upstairs had wonderful margaritas and the air conditioning during a heat spell was heavenly We are sorry to hear about the boat explosion and hope the man that was injured is okay
Very friendly and diverse yacht club members!
Welcome friendly club members Amenities awesome so was the bar Erin was great!
The yacht club is not ready for transients. Nice people but lack of info and docks that do not fit to the size of the boat are a recipe for disaster.
Absolutely enjoyable club, great location, members super friendly and helpful upon arrival. Great food on site, restaurant and member's club very nice. 5 out of 5 no question.
Great view from the yacht club bar upstairs. Very welcoming bartender gave us the key to the gate and showers/laundry which were in good shape. We had trouble communicating with the fuel dockhand, but got it sorted out after we picked up the mooring ball. The fuel dock is not staffed on Mon & Tuesdays.
Nice little mooring area, and good grounds. Just watch yourself on the mooring pendants. I got sliced pretty good by the barnacles all over the lines. Gloves next time. :)
Spent a great two nights on a mooring ball at Pequonnock Yacht Club. Once reserved, I received a call from the vice commodore to answer any questions that I may have had, while explaining in detail what to expect. Very nice club, great facilities and very friendly people! We'll go back anytime if our schedule allows!
No one answered VHF call. No answer at club. No launch service. Terrible place to stay.
Five stars if they offered launch service. Nice club with friendly and welcoming members. Nice restaurant on premises. We didn’t explore much so I can’t comment about the area. No complaints, not a bad stop over if in the area.
I love this place. Laid back vibe, clean facilities. Helpful neighbors. Can’t wait to return.
Probably not fair to rate because it poured while we were there and never met anyone. One thing transients should know is there is no launch service so if you’re one a mooring, unless you want to stay on the boat, you might want to go elsewhere.
Great docks. Nice showers. Great club with a bar and nice people to relax with.
Easy in and out. Friendly staff. Well maintained moorings. Didn't answer VHF but answered phone instantly. Will be back!
Nice reception with clear instructions. Mooring are sturdy and from what we saw, fairly new and well setup. Picking up mooring lines is a breeze. Facilities are convivial, clean and everything is there for a beautiful overnight stay. Nice restaurent on the YC facility although we haven’t tried it ( maybe next time!) if possible, take a walk thru the neighbouring area, nice houses and calm streets. It is a big city stop over but yet, not too noisy or busy.
Great little marina! Friendly, welcoming and down to earth staff and club members! They don’t seem to monitor their radio but answer their landline and couldn’t be more helpful! We stayed on a mooring and were told to just pick up any one we wanted. They were not limited by size or weight so any one of them was fine for our 50 ft sailing vessel with 7 ft draft. Dinghy dock is between E and F dock on the far side of the restaurant, inside the break wall. If you go inside the Shell and Bones restaurant there is a door on the left side of the vestibule to go upstairs to the clubhouse. Drinks are cheap, people are friendly and the view is beautiful! Also a short Uber ride to Pepe’s on Wooster street where you can get the BEST pizza!
Great people and facilities. We walked to Yale and ubered back. We liked it so much we joined the club!! Be aware that there is not a launch service so kayak or dinghy on from the moorings.
Very nice Yacht Club with its own restaurant, bar and lounge area. Fancy restaurant on the first floor. Tons to see and do near by and locals were very welcoming.
They responded quickly to make the reservation but then they did not respond via Dockwa to find out where to pick up our mooring. tried 3 numbers until I finally got the club president who said pick up anyone. My charts say the water is very shallow (3 - 5 feet) so we picked one as close to the channel as possible to the channel for our 5 foot draft. Very calm the 1st night. Second night with 20 knot winds out of the southwest, we had swells making for a very rocky night. Clubhouse was nice with lovely views. Easy bike ride to downtown.
Nobody knows what to do when you arrive. There’s no slip assignment. We pulled up to what was a fuel dock and a member said we could stay. The dock is 20’ away from a noisy restaurant. The bartender was very helpful and showed where to get ice.
Good communication, deep water access to mooring but no launch and inevitably some noise from the highway. Excellent restaurant on premise.
Friendly staff, Marina itself is understaffed with no one to help but overall a good value and would definitely come again. Great restaurant on site and the town nearby is just a 10 minute Uber drive for about $12.
The hospitality and friendliness in the clubhouse were second to none - great night - and beer only $4! Docking easy with lots of space for our 42ft long 12 ft wide Malo 42. Only dropped a star because showers not working and no water on dock - maybe because early in the season. Also easy Uber or bus ride to Yale and Peabody natural history museum.
Beware. They do not sell fuel here. Otherwise very nice people and great facility. We'll be back
Great service from Robert, the marina manager as well as the staff. We have stayed one night on newly installed mooring during the Hurricane/Tropical Storm Henri. The bay is well protected from all wind directions. Very comfortable stay. Everyone at the club was very welcoming . Strongly recommending.
Went to yacht club no one answer vhf found my slip what a nightmare some person on a tiara was having a party music so loud you couldn’t even talk I was 6 boats away drunk and every other word was f this f that never again will I transit there
A member of my YC already had a less than enjoyable stay on the mooring but the review of the restaurant I felt warranted a stop. I reserved a slip, not wanting to repeat his mistake and eventually got a confirmation. While motoring to the marina, I received a call that there would be no one at the marina to help us dock but was assured this is a members run club and I would be OK. Oh yea, nobody answers the VHF. Following the direction I turned into the marina, into the first fairway and lined myself up for the designated slip. I was committed and lined myself up. The slip assigned to me measured 28' from finger pier to finger pier. The piers are about 35' long and the piers taper to 2'. Midway dow the finger pier you gain about 1.5' in width. The 42' to 45' viking has a beam of 16'4", my beam is 13'6". How they expected to cram in 29'10" into a slip with only 29'6" pf space plus bumpers must be a mew type of math. I suffered two bent stanchions that will cost me about $250 plus the time and labor costs to replace them, hoping I can purchase them and not have them bent straight. Putting me in a slip that I could not possibly fit is pure greed. I waited 48 hours to write this so that I could cool off. I did not cool off!!!!
When you arrive just pull up to the old gas dock and you’ll find someone to let know you arrived. The docks are in great condition, marina bathrooms are clean. There is a restaurant on the property and you can order food from there while you are in the yacht club, the food was excellent. Everyone we met there was really nice. Rob checked in on us to make sure we were all set. 10 min Uber to downtown. Would definitely recommend.
We arrived around 4pm. No one answered the VHF. I had to call the club on my cell they told me pick up any mooring. Then we find out they do not have launch service so we could not make our dinner reservation or get off the boat. Too late to go anywhere else. No where does it mention no launch service. Do not book if you do not have a dinghy
Great, brand new moorings with plenty of depth in the mooring field. Wonderful bar & restaurant shell and bones restaurant ashore (make sure to make reservations on busy nights) with amazing views. We measured about 10 - 14 feet at the mooring field at low tide. Around 9-10 feet on the entrance channel also at low tide. Friendly staff and members. Only recommendation would be to get a launch service. I was told later by a member that you may ask a member to give you a ride ashore, but no official service yet. Still highly recommend as a place to stop when heading north or south on LI Sound.
This was our first stay at PYC using one of the clubs new moorings. On the positive side, the club is in the same building as the Shell and Bones restaurant. We had a fabulous meal sitting on the club deck overlooking the water. The club members were very welcoming. On the negative side, when we arrived in the mooring field we were informed that the club has no launch service. As we were the only guest they let us stay on the gas dock while we had dinner. This worked out fine but not having a launch service should be noted on DockWa. We will be back, but next time with dinghy in tow.
We stayed here on one of their moorings. Nice peaceful night, but that was the only pleasantry I have. We got in in the dark (and dead low tide) so I called ahead to get some beta on what we were looking for as far as location of balls, markings on the balls... depth. We draw 6’. As you can see on the charts, depths are super shallow around the field. “Oh yeah, we have 20’ out there. We have catamarans come here”. It was far shallower than that on our chart plotter and depth sounder. Condition of the mooring... I would not have trusted the pendant for a large dinghy! We had to run our own bridal through the top of the ball shackle. Who knows what the bottom chain looks like since the pennant was so destroyed.
We had a great stay at the YC. Since they don't have marina staff available on the radio, we messaged them early to find out more details about our slip. In the end we docked at the fuel dock (easy bow-in port-side dock) and went to the bar of the yacht club to get the slip detail and key to the gate. On their website they have a good picture of the docks layout so you can plan easily. Yacht club members are really nice and helpful. I can't comment on the facilities because we use the head/shower of our sailboat.
First I will say the marina is safe and secure. The slips are well maintained. I think the drawbacks are the following: the radios didn’t work and there was no one to respond to the call on Channel 9. That being said we called in on the phone and spoke to someone in the club who told us what slip. But no one met us at the slip. We were lucky enough to have someone on the boat next to ours who said he would assist since the wind had kicked up. We went to check in and the only person who was there was the bartender in the bar who wasn’t sure about the WiFi password or the WiFi. She did find gate keys and gave us those. The website says shower facilities and bathrooms. They are outside of the locked gates and have seen much better times with respect to cleanliness and upkeep. There was an abandoned building at the top of the dock but we have no idea what that was. We were told there was a place to get breakfast but there wasn’t. There was an abandoned small building that at one time apparently a small breakfast stop but it must have been a long time ago. The restaurant Shell and Bones which is on the property was excellent we can’t say enough about the atmosphere the service and the food. There reportedly is another restaurant there on the property but we didn’t find that. There was a bar upstairs in the club room but not a restaurant. One thing I will say is that the next morning the dock master was at our boat and apologized for not being there. That was something that was a positive. But when we left no dockmen were on the dock. Also it says water gas and electric. No gas though. That was a problem. Also they say they have WiFi but NO signal on the dock. Three different WiFi’s and no signal on any of them. Overall for a stop over night while commuting or delivering a boat it is adequate. For overnight to enjoy the restaurant (shell and Bones), club bar, lounge and amenities at the marina I think there are better stops. If it had what is advertised it may have been a better stay.
Folks in the yacht club are super friendly and since it was just under 90, let us bring our dogs in while we had a couple bees.
Everyone at the dock was super helpful. Thank you for the warm stay.
