The folks at Pope’s Island are great. New Bedford harbor is a major working port but it quieted right down at night and since it’s so protected we slept great. The only negative for us is that they are now using “Cuttyhunk” style moorings which have a 3-4’ pole with a loop on top into which you need to thread your own line. This is fine but we couldn’t reach it! We were “saved” when the launch driver came over and attached our lines to the mooring.
Loud construction for 2 whole days right next to the boat. A fire 2 months ago shut down the Captains lounge, laundry, nearby rest rooms, nearby showers, ships store, restaurant. All things considered don’t feel it was worth the price.
These people really know how to make a boater feel welcome and they've even improved their already great facilities.
Great snug harbor. Easy in and out. Some loud music from shoreside venues till pretty late but all in all a great place to visit.
