About

Introduction:

The last of four bridges that crisscross the ICW in the Daytona Beach area, the Memorial Bascule Bridge carries Silver Beach Avenue to and from the popular white sandy beaches past South Atlantic Avenue. The bridge’s location on the ICW is exactly at Mile Marker 830.6.

Navigating the Bridge:

Use NOAA Chart 11485.

The bridge has a 21-foot closed vertical clearance with 89 feet of horixontal space in the center span.

During the peak season (winter), this area can be packed with boating traffic, and warrants special lookouts for other vessel traffic that may not be as cautious as yourself. Depths in the area are good, but as with many ICW locations, depths shallow quickly outside the channel, which leaves a limited area for circling while waiting for a bridge opening.

Bridge Schedule:

This bridge operates on a restricted opening schedule.

Monday through Saturday, year-round, the bridge is closed from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., and then again from 4:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., but will open at 8:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. for waiting traffic. The bridge opens on demand at all other times.

Depending on schedule, the bridge can be opened by horn signal (one long, one short) or by hailing the bridge tender on VHF Channel 09. (All bridges in the state of Florida must be hailed on VHF Channel 09.)

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
