About

Navigating the Bridge:

Although located in a particularly narrow spot, the bridge is easy to navigate. The bridge can be opened by horn signal (one long, one short) or by hailing the bridge tender on VHF Channel 09. (All bridges in the state of Florida must be hailed on VHF Channel 09.)

If the bridge does not open for your horn signal or VHF calls, the aforementioned F.E.C. Railroad Bridge upstream may be closed. Call 800-342-1131, extension 209, for any unreasonable delays.

Introduction:

The Andrews Avenue Bascule Bridge is located on the New River in Fort Lauderdale between the Southeast Third Avenue and F.E.C. bascule bridges. The bridge has a 21-foot closed vertical clearance and 60 feet of horizontal space in the center span. This bridge does not have a set opening schedule, but will not open for vessels heading upriver if the F.E.C. Railroad Bridge to the west is down.

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
