Located at Intracoastal Waterway Mile Marker 1050.0, the Hillsboro Boulevard Bascule Bridge has a 21-foot closed vertical clearance with 91 feet of horizontal space in the center span. The bridge opens on a restricted schedule. October 1 through May 31, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., the bridge opens at twenty and forty minutes past the hour. Friday through Sunday and on Federal holidays, the bridge opens on the hour and half-hour.
Hallandale is not notoriously busy or hectic, but on weekends, as with any Florida locale, things can get hectic. Keep a close eye on other boat traffic and be sure to arm yourself with the current opening schedule for the bridge.
Depending on schedule, the bridge can be opened by horn signal (one long, one short) or by hailing the bridge tender on VHF Channel 09. (All bridges in the state of Florida must be hailed on VHF Channel 09.)
