Closed vertical clearance | 25 |
Perched above an industrial section of the north fork of the Miami River, the Northwest 22nd Avenue Bascule Bridge has a 25-foot closed vertical clearance with 81 feet of horizontal clearance at the center span. The bridge operates on a restricted schedule (as do all Miami River drawbridges) and does not open from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 4:30 to 6 p.m., except weekends and federal holidays, year-round.
A large freight terminal is located on the west side of the bridge, and numerous marinas and dockage facilities line either side of the river here. A close lookout for other boating traffic is advised.
Depending on schedule, the bridge can be opened by horn signal (one long, one short) or by hailing the bridge tender on VHF Channel 09. (All bridges in the state of Florida must be hailed on VHF Channel 09.)
Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
