About

Introduction:

Located near Intracoastal Waterway Mile Marker 1054 in Pompano Beach, the Hillsboro Inlet offers fairly reliable (seven-foot depths) access to the Atlantic Ocean from the Hillsboro River.

More famous than the inlet itself, is the 136-foot-tall black and white lighthouse on the north shore of the inlet that was placed into service here in 1907.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Chart 11467.

A 13-foot closed vertical clearance drawbridge crosses the inlet and has restricted opening hours. Be sure to have the opening schedule in mind when preparing to transit the inlet. Otherwise, the Hillsboro Inlet is frequently dredged to seven-foot depths and offers safe passage for all but the deepest draft vessels.

A series of lighted and unlighted day boards mark the entrance and should be religiously honored.

Local Notices to Mariners:

Local Notices to Mariners are available online from the U.S. Coast Guard.
