Leeward Cut |
The image above is of the southern terminus of Leeward Going Through where it empties into Caicos Bank at Crist Point. To the north is Leeward Cut, which provides access to the Atlantic Ocean through a winding tricky passage.
This is the end of navigable water for the Leeward Going Through area, as the water shallows quickly to the south where the passage ends at Caicos Bank, a large flats area that covers hundreds of square miles south of the island chain.
In addition to a well-protected harbor with good holding, Leeward Going Through is home to the Leeward Marina, which has gas and diesel fuel, a ships store, laundry (no dryer), drinking water and ice.
See our Local Notices to Mariners blog for updates on the latest conditions and advisories for this area.
