Welcome to Moriah Harbour Cay National Park! Help us preserve the marine environment while enjoying our newly installed moorings at Red Shanks Cay as you explore and enjoy the park's beauty.
The Bahamas National Trust now offers 34 moorings at Red Shanks Cay (south of Crab Cay) and 2 moorings off the eastern end of Stocking Island that can accommodate up to 60 ft / 18 m vessels.
The Red Shanks Cay mooring field offers excellent protection from all wind directions and is a short dinghy ride to several local restaurants and businesses including a marina. George Town is approximately 15 minutes west and accessible through protected waters. Rolle Town is approximately 10 minutes east. The Red Shanks Cay mooring field is a great staging area for explorations of Moriah Harbour Cay National Park.
The Stocking Island moorings are located in a picturesque location on the western boundary of the park adjacent to the beaches, trails, and sandbars on the southeastern end of the island. A short dinghy ride will take you to snorkeling at channel reef (5 min), Guana Cay reef (10 min), and Fowl Cay reef (15 min). All snorkeling buoys are red with yellow pennnats. These moorings are protected, but are probably best in northerly and easterly winds.
Moorings fees are consistent with existing Bahamas National Trust park fees. Once your reservation is confirmed, fees must be paid in full Check out before 12pm. Check in after 2pm. Reservation requests will be confirmed on the same day if made by 1pm. Changes to reservations must be made 24 hours prior to arrival/departure/extension of stay. No wet storage available.
Please refer to our website for mooring field guidelines and tie-up instructions, and additional information. We strongly recommend that vessels with a draft of 5'+ enter the mooring field to approach moorings 1-14 at mid-high tide. Terms and conditions apply.

Good mooring ball and nice place
Very quiet. No problem getting in.
Very calm and peaceful. It was windier than usual but very comfortable. There are very few places to walk a dog, but we found a great spot.
Excellent protection
Calm and peaceful until the tour boats come in full speed with loud music. They do not know how to read the No Wake Zone signs and have no respect for the boaters and the park.
Review is based on my 17 day stay. The park staff was helpful and nice. They responded to emails within 2 hrs. The Wardens stopped by the boat to answer any questions- I enjoyed the conversation. Two boats anchored in the mooring field. Wardens quickly responded and removed the boats. The mooring balls are clearly numbered and easy to read. The addition of a yellow polypropylene eye on the mooring line, made it easy to insert the boat hook. The mooring I used had more than 6' and MLW. The entire field is fairly well protected. No noticeable current. So, boats swing with the wind. I look forward to returning.
SV Moxie: we stayed on Ball #6 (north mooring field) during a blow. It was great. Well protected and great holding. We had gusts to 38kts. One thing…….DO NOT cut the corner going to the north mooring field (balls 1-14). There is shoaling in there (1-2’ at low tide). It’s all sand but we saw several cats run aground. We mentioned it to the warden. They were aware.
Staff is awesome, moorings are new and secure
Mooring in good shape. Protected from a.gale. park staff very helpful.
Good mooring, sustained the cold front, who is what we wanted, nothing more to say, thanks!
Moorings are well-maintained and easy to pick up. Red Shanks is a beautiful and well-protected area.
The mooring was safe and protected for a strong blow. Reservation was easy and quick and communication was great! Thanks so much!
Awesome, no issues during heavy blow. Convenient to laundry, Browns marine, Cheaters, liquor store.
This was a great stay for the blow that came through. We felt safe knowing the mooring ball was new and we could trust it.
Park Rangers were friendly and the Dockwa app works great!
I came here seeking safe Harbor from hurricane Melissa and let’s just say I’m glad I did. I found myself very. We had 92 mph gust and the balls held fine. They are new and in great condition. The area is absolutely beautiful and there is even a cave nearby where I was you can dive in that is full of beautiful fish. I’ll definitely be stopping here again!
Very comfy despite the windy conditions. Happy to see Park staff monitoring the buoys. Thank you!
Spent three days on ball #15 at 25-30 kts…never saw fetch more than 8”. Super protected. Slept like a baby. Laundry & liquor store is close. So is Browns.
Looks like nobody goes down here now because you have to pay for it. Well it's a National Park, it's beautiful, and it's a great place to get away from the GTown crowd. The approach is nowhere near as bad as it looks on the charts. We came out this morning at mid-tide and saw no less than 8.5 feet. Follow the yellow brick road and depth is fine...
Nice place! Nice and close to many adventures!
Peaceful, calm and beautiful. Dove the mooring and looked robust, though it tied to a sand screw and no idea how strong that is. Held our 48’ catamaran in 34 kts. Pretty expensive though.
Reservation works perfect. The Mooring Ball was in very good shape. Can recommend the place.
Loved it I was a bit anxious about going in and out but loved the protection this morning field provided. I also really appreciated to quick responses to my questions and messages. Thank you
Great mooring ball and location
Beautiful place well protected was here for two days for a blow. It was perfect.
Great spot to duck into.
Lovely place! Well protected.
Very peaceful and protected mooring field. We moored here during a big blow and felt very secure. No anchoring is allowed in the park so did not have to worry about neighboring boats anchors dragging. Every boat is on a mooring ball.
Absolutely beautiful! Excellent communication and timely responses from the staff when reserving and making changes. Thank you.
The mooring ball was in excellent condition and the harbor was beautiful.
We love it here and very protected during windy nights! We are in a 44ft cat with about 3.5 and we were comfortable at 15 for two nights during blow and with wind gusts of up to like 40 knots. Very responsive team also.
Great stay in a nicely sheltered cove. Helpful staff, both online and in-person.
Worked out well as the wind was kicking up for a few days. Moorings setup very well.
The people that set up The reservations were great, very helpful.
We were on ball 26 for several days of strong NE to NW winds (20 -25kts). No issues.
Great protection from an east wind. Calm and quiet all night long.
Beautiful and peaceful
Beautiful! The moorings are great and deep enough for our 6'2" draft (at least up to mooring 20 - didn't try to go further)
Great quiet and calm!
Great mooring field. Very protected from most winds/waves.
20 or more characters.
Lovely mooring area. We were on ball 16 with a 5 foot draft. We didn’t touch bottom but got pretty close. Best to come in on a rising tide if you’re going to that area or deeper into the mooring field.
A little rolly on ball 30. Further n May have been better. Balls look in great condition. 40$ seems high for a 39’ boat….
Stayed for 3 days and it was so peaceful. Calm and sheltered anchorage. Even saw dolphins one morning!
Fantastic mooring. Beach close to walk the dogs, protected from almost all direction wind. Close enough to Lake Victoria to get groceries or go out. Easy to connect to mooring and the number of other boats was low so felt quiet. Feels far when coming in, just entry was due to deep channel and avoiding coastal. Will stay again for sure.
It is a beautiful and protected mooring field. However, you should note that the farthest moorings are difficult or impossible to access at mid to low tide for any boat that draw 5ft or more.
Local go fast boats rip through the mooring field full speed waking boats hard if you are getting into or out of a dingy it could be bad or if someone is in the water it could be fatal! This needs to be addressed before someone becomes a statistic.
We loved it here! Super calm and isolated and still a (big) dinghy ride from town or cruiser floating city. Great protection from all directions. Decently our favorite place in the GT area
Great mooring in 10 ft plus of water depth, sheltered from all seas and most winds. Easy access with 6.5 feet minimum depth. Great mooring hardware and strong. Looks like it will cause minimal damage to sea grass. Well spaced and allows more boats on moorings than I have ever eeen at anchor.
Easy access and quiet, protected bay.
Excellent moorings, well distributed along the possible anchorage areas. I’ve been there before the moorings and now I believe the anchorage can accommodate more boat - with safety - than before. Price is too high, 1$ per foot with absolutely no service or amenities.
Morning pendants need larger polypropylene loops just below the eye to make pickup easier.
