Introduction:

Actually part of the Okeechobee Waterway, the north entrance to the Saint Lucie Canal is located at Mile Marker 10 on the Okeechobee off the south fork of the Saint Lucie River, and leads boaters south toward Lake Okeechobee.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Chart 11428.

A fixed bridge north of the entrance to the Saint Lucie Canal limits overhead clearance to 54 feet. Once past the bridge, green daybeacon “3” marks the initial approach, while flashing green “33” and red daybeacon “34” (visible in the image above) mark the formal beginning of the canal. Project depths are reported to be six feet for the length of this portion of the canal.
