I recently moved to Murrells Inlet, just south of Myrtle Beach, and bought a Hunter 27 which was already docked at Grande Dunes Marina. I investigated most of the other facilities in the general area and found that Grande Dunes Marina provided the best overall spot, especially given the cost and location. While it's farther from my new home, the drive is easy and I like being located in that area of the ICW. Not too far to the ocean outlet and the Marina provides GREAT protection from both wakes from the ICW and more importantly from the rage that comes along with Hurricanes. I've not used the restaurants at the hotels on site but I have made good use of the marina office, the store, and the fill station. All of these are first class and very easy to use. The staff in the office is absolutely fantastic. They are quick to respond to your needs, really seem to like their jobs, and I think they are one of the reasons I ended up chosing this site for my slip. One reason I didn't get a spot closer to my home is that many of those marinas seemed to cater to commercial charter boats, big motorboats, and yachts; often very few sailboats. Grande Dunes has a nice mix of both motor and sail, plus the sizes of the various boats allows for a mid-size boat like my Hunter 27 to have a great space even if it is right next to a 50 foot motoryacht.

The marina is pretty good. Starting to fill up with yearly boats so you have to walk a little to get to the office. No big deal, Good people. My complaint is the attitude from the restaurant in the hotel and the one right next door to the marina (same corporation). I've been here 3 times and now they don't like dogs. My dog was always permitted to be tied on the decks of these facilities. In a very unfriendly manner, I my opinion, I was told it was a health code that my dog had to get off the deck. Georgetown would be closed down if it was a health code. O'well, I guess 3 times and I'm out. I won't be back.

Grande Dunes Marina is a fabulous facility. Docks are clean with individual slips and dock storage box. Plenty of protection from waves coming from the Intercoastal Waterway. Many fine restaurants on site as well as a bar and grill on the pier overlooking the Waterway. Very nice Marina.
