Pagan River |
Tucked away and secluded on the Pagan River in Smithfield, Virginia, the Smithfield Station Marina is a serene refuge from the Chesapeake Bay and was recently recognized as the Best Resort Marina by Chesapeake Bay Magazine, for six consecutive years in a row! Additionally, the Smithfield Station Marina was also recognized as the Best Marina for Natural Environment, Best Dockmasters, and Best Dockside Bar!
We love Smithfield Station and Smithfield. Top notch facilities and great food in a picturesque peaceful setting.
Great weekend! Everyone very friendly and accommodating.
Excellent as always. The staff (Dee especially) and the owners were extremely helpful. Food was great too. Since our group has smaller boats, we were given spaces near the hotel...which ended up being far from the bathhouse, for those who do not shower on their boats. I guess that means we all need to buy bigger boats!! :).....also very convenient for the Bacon and Bourbon festival! We'll be back!
Nice little marina. Well maintained. This is our 2nd stay there. Smithfield is a nice town to visit. Beautiful old homes.
My wife and I visited the Smithfield Station on August 29, 2024 and stayed for 5 days. We only intended to stay for 2 days but LOVED it so much we extended our stay. This place is GREAT. The floating docks are first class. The on-site restaurant and bar was also great. The employees are ALL friendly, helpful, nice, knowledgable. The food and drinks were perfect. We also enjoyed the large, clean pool. The on-site bathrooms and showers were modern and clean. The approach from the James River is very well marked and we never saw a depth less than 7 feet at low tide- typical depth was 12-15 feet. We ventured into the small town of Smithfield (an easy 2 block walk) and found the town to be delightful with several restaurants and small shops. We will return again soon!!! Mike and Kathy aboard KaM-e-lot.
Nice marina, good dockhands, a little shallow at the side dock along the hotel's pool and cottages. Down to about 5' when we left, near low tide. The route back out to the James River is also skinny at lower tide. Windsor Castle Park across the street is a gem.
Enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff and great accommodations.
Lovely marina, lovely town! Pristine facilities including pool. Can't wait to come back!
Fabulous facilities and location. Only downside was no one to direct us where to dock or assist us. Windy day. Picked the face dock. Thankfully another boater helped us dock. For the price per foot someone should have been available to assist us. Other wise awesome.
We love the Smithfield Station Marina!! Our home away from home.
We stayed at Smithfield Station the weekend of the Smithfield Bacon, Bourbon and Music Festival. Smithfield Station could not have been more accommodating to our request to shorten our stay to a single night because of small craft advisories the planned day of arrival. It would be hard to beat the convenience, cost and quality of the Sunday brunch at the restaurant. We definitely plan to return.
Greatest staff, wonderful restaurant and just a lovely marina!
Great marina, we always enjoy our time at the Smithfield Station. The staff is great and the restaurant is delicious.
Always awesome. Restaurant staff is great and the menu selection and quality is the best in our area.
My go-to marina for a weekend when we have company on board. First class bath house and swimming pool immediately adjacent to the docks. Excellent restaurant on site. Beautiful park for walking directly across the street. Wonderful Victorian style homes to see on the short walk into town. Town has a little museum with the “oldest” smoked ham and oldest peanut known to man, a number of good restaurants and many shops to browse. Plus, the Smithfield Station owners frequently are the guys grabbing your dock lines and welcoming you to the marina. Nice touch.
Another great marina stay in Smithfield. Plenty of fun things to do and places to go. Food was great at the restaurant and folks were friendly as usual…..!
Excellent facility, in a great destination. I highly recommend going to Smithfield Station.
Excellent marina. Small town charm and wonderful food at Smithfield Station
Awesome place. Staff and ownership take pride in the place and it shows. No issues with the channel, just want to make sure you stay in it. We will definitely be going back soon!
Enjoyed our stay for 3 years. Heading back home to a slip in SC. Great restaurant on site and people are friendly.
excellent dock hands
Very nice marina with friendly staff. Great resturant, walking distance to quaint old downtown Smithfelield.
The doc hands were prompt and very diligent. They helped us out with getting a water hose, and it was so great.
The staff at SS were great. Very helpful with docking boat and checking on us.
Excellent marina, bathrooms, restaurant and bar. Beautiful location, easy walk to historic Smithfield, Va.
The service and food are wonderful. The wine festival is an amazing event. The staff handled the overwhelming crowd flawlessly.
Great place to eat, dinner was great, breakfast was even better! Floating Docks are nice and the bathhouse is clean.
Smithfield Station is a great place to visit and a great marina. The Smithfield Station restaurant is equally as good and a Sunday breakfast buffet second to none. The town of Smithfield with several unique shops is an easy walk.
What a wonderful marina and terrific town!! The history there is amazing and the homes are spectacular! The marina restaurant was excellent along with the other restaurants we visited in town. Brian is a very gracious and helpful dockmaster! We are even headed to their sister marina today. We can't recommend Smithfield Station highly enough.
A great marina with outstanding customer service. The dock hand was extremely helpful. We forgot our hose and he actually got one for us and assisted us with tie up and taking luggage to the hotel. The marina is quiet, large and protected. Highly recommend!
Great facility. Bathrooms very spacious, spotless, all ceramic tiled like-new condition. Very large showers. Nice pool dockside. Restaurant very good quality food and service. Marina staff very helpful with docking (current can be strong). Historic Smithfield very interesting - had a walking tour (group at $5 per person). This is a great getaway. Although fuel is fairly close at Brown's Marina, it would have been a plus to have fuel at Smithfield Station marina. 2nd stay on 8-10 Jul 2022: still excellent service and facilities. Historic town of Smithfield has it all for a weekend away - great walking/running trail on Windsor Estate, museums, shops, and dining.
Great night perfect hospitality
Great place to dock...facilities are excellent, pool is fun, dock hand very helpful, convenient restaurant and a nice, large park for walking across the street.
Beautiful marina, excellent staff and amazing food. We will be back. STRUQQLE 54 Azimut Fly
Wonderful place to visit and knowledgeable dock hand. Also enjoyed a very nice meal at their restaurant and a wonderful walk the following day around the park and town.
Before I left my home marina, tried for two days to contact the dockmaster to check on conditions in the Pagan river. Never got my call returned. When I arrived, did not know slip assignment. Could not reach anyone on VHF. Called marina on cell phone, and the desk agents had not idea where I was to go. Fortunately, I had been there before, and picked a slot. The first power pedestal I picked, the circuit breaker tripped three times in two hours, so I had to move the power. When I checked in, I had to ask for a marina information sheet. i was kind of left alone to do my thing. Not a particularly professional approach. May or may not ever go back.
The Pack family are awesome!
The marina is nice but there wasn't any access to breakfast, snacks or drinks. We went to the 3rd floor of the main hotel just to get a soda from vending. Dinner at Smithfield Station was very nice.
We spent several days at the Smithfield Station marina. As always, it was a wonderful experience. This was our third visit there, and we have visited in three different boats. The marina staff is both friendly and competent. The dockmaster was at hand quickly to assist with our arrival at the dock and ready to provide information about their expansive facilities and the beautiful historic town of Smithfield, which is a short walk away. Everyone with whom we had reason to interact was warm, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The restaurant is immediately adjacent to the marina and offered both indoor and outdoor dining options. We chose to sit outdoors on a lovely porch at a covered table with fans nearby. All staff were masked and attentive. We had intended a one-day stay, but storms blew in, and we stayed over. We enjoyed every minute!
Great support team at Smithfield Station! Thank you Brian for all your help. We will be back.
Staff very helpful getting into slip with the strong current. Great place to wait out Hurricane. Restaurant on site. Lovely park with trails across the street and a short walk to historic downtown.
Great facility. A very friendly, clean facility. With a wonderful restaurant.
Great Marina, Beautiful town, and friendly people. My wife and i try to stay here once or twice a year, very peaceful place. Make sure to follow the channel coming in, stay close to markers
It is a pretty little marina, peaceful and picturesque.....the Pagan River is awesome and if you have a dinghy you can explore for miles in deep water as it winds and around every curve is a great blue heron, egrets, osprey..... The restaurant here is wonderful and everything clean and tidy
Stayed one night at Smithfield Station. As always, a very nice place to stay. Friendly staff and nice small marine.
Very nice Marina close to town with marsh views. Opposite the Windsor Castle Park which is excellent for a variety of trails suitable for a run or walk through the Marsh Land and woods. Also has kayaks for rent. Town is charming. Food is nothing special at both the “highly rated” Marina restaurant and the brewery in town. But this is well worth a visit. Only irritant was a party with a band going on at the pool on the Saturday night, up to 11am, which was quite loud and next to where we tied up. We would rather have had a string quartet! Watch out for the James River Bridge which you pass to get there. It has clearance of only 60ft and if your a sailboat with a higher mast you have to call ahead a couple of hours (757-247-2133), to schedule a raise. The bridge tender is very friendly and is happy to accommodate. We will be back!
Both times we've stayed at Smithfield Station we were met by one of the owners who expertly tied us to floating face dock, then told us what we needed to know about the marina and Smithfield. Lovely area with friendly residents. Marina was clean, protected and quiet.
Have visited here a few times. Great destination on the Pagan River, off of the James. Great restaurant, small pool, and clean restrooms/shower. Very nice floating docks, and dock master Brian Pack always ready to lend a hand. Easy walk to historic downtown Smithfield and Windsor Castle Park. Mind the depths along the Pagan River, and make sure you have enough water.
Friendly accommodating staff. Well run facility with fantastic views of the Pagan River and bordering marshland.
Beautiful marina. Great location. Outstanding service. Only improvement needed is the WiFi signal almost never worked on the docks.
Dock master was very nice. Channel was deep and well marked. Facilities were excellent. Highly recommend.
This is a beautiful marina. I lived across the water and got to see the blazing flame licked look to the waters at sunset, the reflections of boat lights (especially when fully rigged for parade) on glassy clear water at dusk, the sounds of diesels chugging along in and out echo across the water like fog caressing the ground, and the wild life was amazing. Ducks, geese, fish, crab, crayfish, deer and more. Stunning vista but I moved away to Texas. The only downer was the light house at Smithfield Station. The room was amazing and beautiful, but the hot tub controls were shot and we had to sit in hot water till it cooled off, and no bubbles. Hope they fixed it by now. The food on the other hand is to die for. So delicious, alluring, soothing, tasty! Mmm.
