Welcome to Elmwood Township Marina — Traverse City’s Hidden Gem on Grand Traverse Bay.
Nestled along the scenic M-22 Heritage Route, Elmwood Marina is a fully staffed, public marina located on the tranquil West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. Designated as a Pure Michigan Byway and proudly recognized by the Michigan Clean Marina Program, Elmwood offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, comfort, and convenience.
The marina features 152 seasonal slips, 32 seasonal mooring balls, and 20 transient slips (available through Dockwa), along with six deep-water launch ramps and ample parking. Known affectionately as the “Quiet and Peaceful Marina,” Elmwood provides a serene boating experience just one mile from the vibrant heart of downtown Traverse City.
Explore by Foot, Bike, or Boat Stroll or cycle to downtown on the newly renovated TART Trail, Michigan’s premier biking and walking route. The trail hugs the bay shoreline south from the marina entrance to downtown Traverse City less than a mile away. The trail continues north through the rolling hills of Leelanau County to Suttons Bay—a 15-mile stretch of pure Northern Michigan beauty.
Gateway to Northern Michigan Adventures: Elmwood Marina is the ideal launch point for exploring the Leelanau Peninsula’s world-class wineries or visiting the stunning Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, just 23 miles west on the shores of Lake Michigan.
A short 22-mile drive up the peninsula brings you to the historic fishing village of Fishtown in Leland, a 19th-century treasure filled with unique shops, restaurants, and attractions like Carlson’s Fishery. Don’t miss a stop at the Bluebird Restaurant or The Cove for their famous “Chubby Mary.”
Discover Power Island: Only a five-mile boat ride from the marina, Power Island is a 200-acre natural paradise with more than three miles of shoreline and five miles of hiking trails. This peaceful preserve is the perfect spot for a picnic, a hike, or a relaxing day in nature.
Come visit Elmwood Marina as a guest — and leave as a friend.
This was my first year with the marina and as very impressed with how it was run and organized. Thank you for all the care you put into taking care of it and taking care of the boaters.
Great job working thru all the changes and construction this summer. Good communications.
Nice docks and a great team managing and maintaining the marina. Added plus is a beautiful new clubhouse completed in 2025.
I am a full time mooring patron of Elmwood Marina. This is the best marina in all of the Grand Traverse Bay area! The absolute BEST marina staff, new marina facilities, deep water boat ramps, and now with the completion of a multimodal trail right to the marina, you can bike/walk/run right into downtown Traverse City!
Super friendly and helpful staff. Docks are very good and the new (2025) shore facilities are excellent!
We’ve had the pleasure of being able to stay at marinas from the PNW to Florida, the Great Lakes and more. Elmwood Marina ranks right up at the top of our favorites. Dan, Chad and company do a remarkable job only made better with the completion of this summers rebuild.
I’m a seasonal slip holder. Elmwood is a great place with fantastic facilities and staff!!!
The best marina I have ever stayed at. Dan and Chad understand what customer service means!
Great facilities and great staff.
The marina people are awesome but this Dockwa program is awful!
