** Please note - some of our slips were damaged in a storm earlier this year. Repairs are imminent, awaiting insurance/contractor responses, so no slip assignment is guaranteed until repairs are complete. We appreciate your patience! **
Galley Stores Marina is a truly one of a kind destination in the beautiful town of New Bern. We are designed to fully accommodate transient boaters with our walkable access to downtown. We’re conveniently located right on the Neuse River within a short stroll to historic downtown New Bern’s many amenities and charms. Galley Marina has more than 400 feet of day dockage and 400 feet of transient dockage with 25 slips for boats up to 100 feet. In addition to in-slip pump-out service, we can provide your fuel – both diesel and gas. All of our slips have 30 and 50-amp electrical service as well as wi-fi reception. 100 amp electrical services is also available. We also have private shower and restroom facilities for our guests in the nicest store on the waterway — the adjacent Galley Stores provisioning and gourmet store.
LOVED this marina... Location is the best ever and Mark truly made certain my stay was no less than perfect! Best part is you don't have to wait on the bridge to get here. Yes - previous reviews indicate some repairs to some of the docks that need to be made - however this is a small part of this marina and have no impact on my stay. The marina is SUPER quiet and SUPER protected. Nice walking path right behind. Oh - and the gas station (car)/store that is the marina office is super nice - all convenience store items plus specialty NC items and fresh flowers and an amazing wine store! I'll be back! Thank you Mark and Logan for your hospitality during my stay. Dreamliner
Excellent marina and the location is perfect...right in the city. Has all the amenities you need and the best staff to assist you. The marina store is well equipped with everything you need.
Better than expected. Location is excellent. Very easy to get around a delightful town. Not a whole lot of transient dockage. Some dockage still damaged from previous storm. Would go back again.
This is not a resort marina, it is how ever a nice place to stay to see New Bern. It's close to all the shopping, restaurants and historical places in town.
First the negatives. The marina docks suffered damage in a storm this past January and the outer breakwater/T dock is essentially gone. We stayed on the T head of C dock and this dock is in serious need of repair. The planking is rotten in many places, and a number of the planks are curling on the end. There are some serious tripping hazards and a number of times I felt I could step through the planking where it was particularly soft. The marina is completely exposed to the south and southeast. On this particular stay the wind was fairly strong out of the southeast, so it was a bit bouncy. On a positive note, it was very hot so the breeze was welcome. The channel that runs in front of the marina has a lot of recreational boat traffic, and it was the rare boater that paid any attention to the effect their wake had on the boats in the marina. It was July 4th, so the traffic was likely higher than usual, but the combination of strong wind and boat wakes added to the bounce. The Galley Marina and stores is a combination gas station, convenience store and marina. and the bathroom/showers had something of a truck stop/gas station feel. They were serviceable, but fairly rough. The marina advertises that they have upgraded and extended their WiFi. I would hate to have seen what is was like before, but we found the WiFi virtually useless. I ended up just turning off the WiFi on my phone and using broadband, which worked fine. Now for the positives. The marina is located in a beautiful spot along the banks of the Neuse River, with a great view. It is within easy walking distance of downtown, with plenty of shopping, restaurants, bars, etc. close by. The marina staff were helpful enough and we had no problem getting in and out. The store is well provisioned. The marina has the potential for being a first class destination, but is not at this time. That being said, we felt the positives out weighed the negatives and plan on staying there again in the fall, once the temperatures cool down and we can get out and really take advantage of all that New Bern has to offer.
We love staying here when we visit New Bern. The store has a great selection of craft beers, wine and goodies! Great town to walk around and shop and eat! Friendly helpful staff
Docks were in bad condition, a third in total dis-repair, and gulls everywhere that try to enhance your vessels paint job. Not really a marina a but a gas station with docks out back. Website touts a great marina, that may have been in the past, but not now, seems deceptive. The radio is broken (seems it has been for years), must call on phone, bathrooms are at the gas station with only a sign for privacy, and no working wi-fi. Easy access to down town - that’s the plus.
We arrived on April 10 after calling to see if we could move our reservation up from April 14. They told us no problem. The pictures on Docwa are incorrect as the 100’ T dock was destroyed from a January storm. They placed us in slip N8 at the end of the T dock. The wood pilings were knocked over at the N7 dock and one in between N8 and N7. The dock segments were not attached to each other except cosmetically on N8. N3 was unoccupied. There was a Gale warning posted for that night. During the night the lack of segment attachment was seen by the adjacent segments next to us moving 2’ vertically from each other. I stayed awake and added 5 additional lines to the steel pilings and remaining cleats. At least a dozen dockboards at N8 were not screwed down and went into the water that night leaving large gaps. I decided to sleep, but heard banging against the hull; one of the dock floats had broken loose and was bumping against the bow surrounded by loose lumber. I got a line on the float and tied it to a cleat at 1AM. The wind turned at midnight and the waves subsided and conditions calmed. They offered to move us to N3 the next morning, but as the winds were still 35mph, I decided not to attempt a new docking. We moved to a new marina 4/14 when the winds settled. Worst experience of any marina in 6500 miles of the loop without comparison. Caveat Emptor.
We had a very comfortable one night stop at Galley Marina. Communication before arrival was excellent, including docking assignment so Captain would know where to go. Wind started piping up and clocking, likely making our location uncomfortable. Having seen the possible scenario, Mark (manager/owner?) called to offer us a different slip. We chose to tough it out and hope for calmer overnight winds. As luck and the weather gods would have it, that’s just what happened. The Galley Stores is clean, convenient and well stocked with interesting local food, beer and wine offerings - and good basic coffee for that first sip before hitting the town for breakfast or snooping. We met long term local docker/owners and winter cruisers who were there for three months. It’s small, but serves all comers with New Bern hospitality. Enjoy!
The team and mark were terrific. We enjoyed our stay and will visit this marina again
Galley Stores made New Bern feel like home. The marina is easy in and easy out, with direct access from the Neuse River and accommodating depths for ships of all sizes. The marina staff knows what they are doing and looks after you and your boat like part of the family. Every inch of the historic downtown of New Bern is walkable. You can shop easily and even load up on fresh goods on Saturday through the local farmers market. If you have any issues, just communicate it with the staff and they do whatever they can to make things right or assist you as best they can. We hope to come back again.
Didn't have usable wifi, bathrooms were disgusting and finger docks were scary wobbly.
Excellent value for the price. Walking distance to all the amenities the wonderful town of New Bern has to offer. Mark, the owner, is very accommodating. Have stayed here a number of times and will be coming back!
Easy in and out with great access to downtown New Bern. The Dockmaster was very helpful and knew what he was doing.
Always enjoy our stay at Galley Stores Marina. Great location in terms of easy walk to downtown and restaurants , dog friendly and nice people. Persimmons restaurant on premises is a huge plus with both indoor and outdoor (on the water) fine dining. The Marina took a hit during Hurricane Ophelia and still recovering. Wish the WiFi and streaming were better—very sporadic.
Galley Stores has an awesome downtown New Bern location. It’s a small marina and was damaged in TS Ophelia just a few weeks ago, so some docks were unusable. This created a bit of a space problem, but Mark, the owner, and his team were super helpful and accommodating. There are two nice bathrooms and you are provided a key upon checkin. They have a pumpout and fuel dock. Note they do not have all sizes of pumpout fittings. There is no laundry onsite, but there is a nice one that is walkable (less than a mile) that we used. We will definitely come back.
Great location! We had to use the phone to get someone to help us dock, but the dock master was then very helpful, especially with a splitter to accommodate our 30 amp cord. The dock itself was unpleasantly dirty with bird dung, and our finger dock rocked at the end to a dangerous extent. But we really enjoyed being to able to tie up in downtown and walk to dinner.
We stayed 3 month in the marina and had plenty enjoyment. Close walk to Downtown, Restaurants and Michel Hardwarestore. Even after tropical storms (Idalia) we felt safe. The owner Mark was very helpfull and friendly.
We arrived in June, and departed September 28, 2023. We really enjoyed our stay and very much appreciated Mark, Stan, and all the staff. Very highly recommended this marina, and New Bern in general. We hope to return next summer.
Super nice staff, and a great location. Close to all the neat things in town. From the time we filled for fuel, and then moved to our slip, the dock hand Stan was so helpful. We were there through TS Ophelia and both Stan and the owner Mark made sure our boat was safe and secure. We liked it so much, we want to go back.
Dock staff not friendly at all. Marina subject to boat wakes.
The staff is always courteous and helpful. Nice Clean amenities.
No VHF contact, therefore have to call office. Dock hand was uningaged, disinterested, and incompetent. Our 60 ft finger pier was TOTALLY covered with duck feces. Many dock boards were rotten and some were totally broken through leaving large holes. No security. After we flagged down the owner, Mark, he agreed to listen to our concerns and said he was "unaware of the issues" even though he was walking on the main dock as we flagged him. We cleaned off the duck dung (40 minutes) and, to the owners credit, he had 14 dock boards replaced the next morning. We visit 25 to 30 marinas a year and this was one of the worst run operation we have encountered.
Love the convenience to downtown and friendly people
Clean friendly. Docks were in better repair than last time. You have to call them on the phone when coming in. Their radio has antenna issues. Recommend a handheld radio when approaching the dock so we would know where to go. Would definitely go back
Good staff at a well-maintained marina. Dockmaster rep came out to meet us at arrival and assigned us to a more protected slip when he found one was available. Good, considerate treatment.
We enjoyed our visit to Galley Stores. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The store itself is very handy as well as the cafe, enjoyed a breakfast sandwich, very good. We would definitely go back on our travels south.
It's best to think of this as a store with a marina attached, rather than the other way around. It doesn't appear they monitor the VHF and we had to dock at the fuel dock and walk to the store to find someone to coordinate fueling, even though we called on the approach. The pump out wasn't working and there was no assistance with docking, which was fine, but know that going in. A boat that came in after us had to move because the power pedestal at their slip didn't work. The restrooms are two single units attached to the store/gas station across a parking lot, and everyone staying at the marina has a key to them. There's an honor system sign you stick on the door to say it's occupied, but otherwise no way to prevent someone from unlocking the door while you're there. It is very convenient to town, and with some maintenance, repairs and better communication the marina will be worth a higher rating.
Covienent to historic downtown. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice floating docks that extend the length of the slips. Weak spot is the two bathrooms and showers that would a turnoff to a significant number of women.
First time, great slip, nice docks nice folks. Loved the town! We will be back!
Super friendly folks, great provisions store, one block from a very nice Courtyard by Marriott. Docks are floating and first class. We will be back!
This Marina is very friendly - the staff working the store were very pleasant to deal with. You can call ahead and talk to real people! Pros: Within easy walking distance to town, clean facilities and store is well stocked (Wine plus Craft beer cave!). Cons: Can be a bit wavy depending upon wind as not deeply sheltered. Lessened with fenders and spring lines. Dockhand assist hours are limited, just like most others, so call ahead.
Nice quiet marina. If you want a pump out at your slip ( as advertised) make sure you get assigned a slip where the pump out station is. Wave action through the C dock entrance gets rocky when wind is against the current. If it’s going to be windy ask for a deeper slip. Nice they have a slip map online so you know where to go in advance. Call the phone number, radio seems to not be monitored.
Great help docking. Nice convenience store. Very close to downtown. Restaurant next door.
Love New Bern and this marina allows easy access to town. Very convenient access just off Neuse River and fair price on month stay.
Just left Nov 2021 and stayed longer then we expected but have to say only good things about the Marina. Mark the owner always did his best to accommodate us and other boaters. Paula at the Galley store makes the Best sandwiches we loved the Blatt! The Beer cave is amazing and wine selection is impressive along with other gourmet treats. Walmart is not walking distance but drivable and someone at the marina always has a car it seems like to lend. The town is adorable and walking distance which was maybe the best part of our stay, enjoying the town.
I like this marina. Small but my favorite by far in New Bern. Nice staff, fair price and a superb location. This was my 5th stay here and I will be back. Thanks Dockwa for making the reservation so easy.
Mark, the owner, is a very nice man, however, his marina is very tired. Many of the planks on the floating docks are curling up at the edges and are dangerous. We found many of the planks on our finger pier to be soft and soggy to the point that I feared falling in. The WiFi is worthless. Mark has great pump out at the docks and the location can’t be beat.
Great location, excellent assistance from Stan docking & pump out. The Galley Store is a pleasant surprise-quite upscale with fine wine selection, truffles, & a few basic supplies - definitely not your typical BP gas station! The staff were kind & very helpful. They are quite short staffed, & it (& perhaps the residual financial hardships from the hurricane) is reflected in some overdue maintenance items-several soft dock boards, “soft” 50 A breaker, (the other breaker on our post was fine) & an abundance of duck poop on the finger docks. Overall the docks are sound and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here in future.
Nice place to stay with a couple minor hiccups. Friendly staff and a dockmaster (the Santa Claus looking guy) who was very helpful docking our sailboat in windy conditions. Facilities are modern and pretty clean. Well stocked ship's store. The problem was that the fuel dock and pumpout station were not available even though their advertising said they were there. We went to another nearby marina for those services.
Nice location. Very friendly staff. Would stay again when in area.
Easy in/out. Great location within 2 blocks of downtown. Marina store offers many locally sourced products and the staff are very helpful. Breakfast sandwiches are exceptionally good! New Bern is a great destination well worth the short run up the river after exiting Adams Creek.
This is a great marina in a great location with good, friendly service. Have stayed here before, sorry to take one star off from my original review as the marina's courtesy truck bit the dust and is no longer available. The truck was a real perk...I hope they replace it.
Nobody answering at the VHF, poor docks. Pump out not working and waves coming directly inside the Marina...
Great place. Easy in and out. Friendly staff. A nice town. Great restaurants. A good respite from the ICW.
Overall, the stay was nice. The location is convenient to the small downtown area of New Bern, NC and the docks were well-kept. The adjoining store was nice and had basic boating supplies and groceries. The only significant problems were the scum on top of the water in the dock area, that mildly stained my fiberglass boat hull, at the waterline, and the fact that the water heater in the showers was not working. No one at the facility knew how to fix it so we took cold showers on a cool evening. Not fun. The next day, the owner didn't seem concerned and laughed-off my respectful and calm comments, and he didn't offer any kind of refund or discount on the dock fee. We'll probably return but we will check the showers for sure, before paying for the dock space.
