At its mouth, the Five Mile River runs between the Connecticut towns of Darien and Rowayton and forms a beautiful and protected harbor. The federal channel runs East of the mooring strings to the marinas on the Rowayton side of the River. At high tide it may appear that there is plenty of water to the West of these strings but do not venture there. At low water, the bottom is showing. Nearly adjacent to the two transient moorings, there is a town dock that allows for 2 hour dinghy tie ups for those who would like to walk the quaint town of Rowayton to dine and shop.

Enjoyed our stay in the nice little town of Rowayton. The mooring accommodated our 45' sailboat with no problem. You do need a dinghy (or just about anything that floats) to paddle up to the town dock only 100' away. Only two restaurants in town and a Pizza place. If you want to go to Rowayton Seafood definitely make reservations. I would definitely go back.
Hard find the three transient buoys, badly described and when found with poorly maintained, fraying ropes.
Not as advertised - mooring did not have enough space for my 33 foot boat despite what is listed and calling to confirm. AVOID this provider and find a reliable mooring / dock.
This is lovely little harbor - moorings very close to the mouth of the river. We ended up using all three of the mooring balls due to our size [44'] - tying up bow and stern. Harbormaster was helpful and most importantly, available on the phone to help! Would definitely stay here again.
Just know that there is no launch service and five mile river is very narrow. Hard to find mooring balls. Make sure you have a boat hook or a small boat where you can grab the mooring hook. You need your own transport back and from your boat.
Beautiful river and town, very well protected. Visitor moorings conveniently located near the town dock. We’ll be back!
