Report Review

This is a non staffed marina and depends heavily on dockwa for all its communications and as a result can not communicate in a timely manner if there is weather or other pressing concerns. We did attempt to cancel a reservation request before our reservation was accepted- while it was still pending-but no one received our message. Instead it was accepted and treated as inside the non refundable window even though our request had been turned in long before. If you have any thought that you may stay for 10 days then try to book for one month because the cost is the same and you will be protected for a longer time if you do not get the weather window you are looking for. The monthly rate is a fair deal. The terms and communication style from the owner and dockwa are all intended to keep you guessing and spending. This is not uncommon in St. Augustine where there is an incredible shortage of dockage and services for boaters. The current is incredible at the end of the dock and quite unsettling. The spa was not functioning during our stay. The lighting was not good and I did hurt myself and walked with a limp for a few days due to no lighting on some of the steps in the dark so be careful. There are some "sleeper" steps so watch out. There is no staff or experienced dock hands to take your lines so current is especially a consideration. The owner did make sure there were many willing dock renters on hand to help when arrived but they were not skilled and we had to make two attempts. So "A" for effort but... again... not really a marina. This is not run like a marina but like a hotel so be advised. The happy hour is pretty neat with modest free food each day and good company from the denizens of the dock. There are good restaurants nearby. The hotel staff are kind but the owner is not interested in your challenges and not a presence on site but a presence in the sense that she is very much in charge. Just an odd vibe. We might come back. But just sort of unsettling. Rock on denizens of Marker 8!
