We were disappointed with the treatment we had at the marina. On June 1st, 2014, we decided to visit Penns Landing for the day, and experience the Irish festival at festival pier. Then, later, we were hoping to take a stroll into philly to enjoy an evening in old city and stop at one of the many fine restaurants. That was until we found out that we would be charged for an overnight stay even though we wanted to stay for about 10 hours and leave before 11 pm. We could have driven here from NJ for about $20 in gas, tolls and parking, but instead we went by boat at $72 for fuel round trip. We were told that it would cost us $31 to stay for 3 hours, we were stunned. Unless we wanted to pay for overnight and leave at 11 pm for $59. (We do have to work on Monday, and have a babysitter to consider.) I said I wanted to stay till 11 pm then go home, but we had to be out by 4:30 or else... We would be untied and sent adrift. Well, we were already there, and since the fuel was spent, we stayed the three hours anyway. Although Richard, the Dockmaster was pleasant and very helpful, he had to follow the rules laid down by the marina. Most boaters are like us, regular people, with average income, so why should we be overcharged for a simple place to tie up for the afternoon, no electric or any other utilities required. It's not like they were overbooked, and tight for space..it was practically empty! It's unlikely we will ever return. They may remain basically empty for all weekends except the major holidays, i.e., Memorial Day, july 4th, and Labor Day. We've been to many places in the Chesapeake where you could tie up for FREE, for the evening, because they know we'll spend our money at the restaurants and shops in town! Maryland, here we come! We'll spend our money there! Sincerely, W.A.D. [email protected]
