Arrived at Haverstraw marina a few days prior to the Hurricane's arrival, thinking it might be a good spot to wait out an impending storm, but we got wedged into a dilapidated, very warped, and rusty old metal dock that was too tight. Our dog burned her feet on the super hot aluminum docks. No wooden docks anywhere and no where to walk our dog! If that weren't enough, there were only 3 extremely small cleats to use to tie up our 50 foot boat, and our stern cleat came loose from the dock after only a few hours. The haverstraw marina in inside an industrial park and is surrounded by a huge industrial parks with NOTHING around whatsoever unless you take a VERY expensive cab to a run down Shop Rite that isn't all that big. Not even anything to do in the town, and we spoke with several regulars there. Regulars aren't all that fond of transient boaters. Docks are too noisy, and place needs a makeover. Safe Harbor wasn't any protection from the storm and our neighbor's boat sustained thousands of dollars worth of damage. This marina isn't worth going to even when there is no storm. It is too exposed to every (passing by) commercial boat and barge traffic on the river. Won't stop here on way back south.
