At the widest part of the distinguished Hudson, 60 tree-lined acres create a magnificent backdrop for Safe Harbor Haverstraw. Boasting an impressive mix of upscale amenities and full-service capabilities, our sheltered deep-water cove is an ideal home port for avid cruisers and accomplished sailors alike. Take in gorgeous river views at the award-winning waterfront restaurant, cool off in our Olympic-sized pool, or sail to the many charming towns sprinkled along the river’s shoreline.
Please Note: Haverstraw Marina requires a copy of vessel insurance when staying with us
My partner and I were disappointed in the lack of communication from the marina, not only in trying to figure out where our dock slip was, but also in getting directions of where everything is, and the absolute lack of any help or consideration from the fellow boaters there, who I can only assume are seasonal ones. Very dark at night, and the docks aren't in the best shape. The noise from the restaurant was fairly annoying as well. I really hate to write bad reviews, but this just wasn't at all what we had anticipated.
No customer care at all. Service from the staff as well as their mechanics is terrible. Very inefficient. The management and staff really could care less about this marina and unfortunately we found this out the hard way. No town to walk to even if you risked walking through the very low income town. The on premises restaurant is absurdly overpriced, and their staff is also disorganized.
Highly overpriced and the service is horrible. Zero customer care and the the office staff has an attitude and then some. Not one helpful person on the docks, and no dockhands despite us calling ahead twice making sure to have someone meet us. The seasonal boater next door wouldn't even lend a hand and pretended to not see us, until we nearly swiped their boat due to sub par tight and warped metal rickety finger docks. Unless you are a seasoned pro at docking and it is dead calm, prepare to scratch and gouge up your boat. The marina store and the restaurant are the biggest rip offs going and try finding some place else to eat in Haverstraw! No town and just industrial construction and power plants for many miles in all directions. Impossible to find any provisions unless you cab it to the 14 miles away Shop Rite. Never again.
Great place we loved it and will be back soon
Very good facility ,had alot of fun. Restaurant was great
Alot has changed since I worked there almost 40 yrs. ago! I was a dock foreman back then & running a 10-person detailing crew; folks were a bit more friendly& laid back with an OPEN WELCOME ATTITUDE/ when Management changed hands place got Money Hungry. THE ORIGINAL MANAGERS LEFT who drove first piling to start to build it. Restuarant when first open poorly manage, beautiful building right Idea but poorly managed changed hands a couple times working out bug's, I guess? Alot of work been done since I left 80's/ my cousins live around there me i am gone but heard obnoxious, rude, arrogant office staff/ management / when asked where they could drop a boat in. Update> after reading more of past view's/ seems place being milked for what they can get out of it & has def. fallen off to side of what was once a really nice place & all who arrived was welcomed. why not up to snuff? Poor Management!! Not correct staff / No marina experience!
Really hate to write bad reviews, but the shallow sandbar coming into the marina, the dark and horribly lit docks, not to mention pitch black walk to the marina office is the first negative. No Wi-Fi, no place to go other than an overpriced restaurant. After 45 mins of waiting, we finally caught a taxi ( no ubers near here at all!), only to find out how depressed the surrounding town of Haverstraw is. Financially and extremely industrial. Nothing around. No provisions store. Slip spacing is tight with your neighbor right on top of you. If you're not a very experienced boater at docking, prepare to scrape the dock or your neighbors boat. Docks are rickety metal, and easily 45 plus years old.
Very nice facility with good approach depth. Well protected. Dock hands were ready for our arrival. Easy docking. Will certainly return in the future.
My family has been with the marina for multiple seasons and is now moving. It is generally an accessible and friendly marina. Some challenges when we hauled the boat out, perhaps due to it being a busy time of the year, but staff was reasonable and worked with us to find solutions.
Very overpriced and disorganized. No help docking. Once you can finally navigate through very tightly spaced boats to get to your slip, you'll find it to be a good half mile or more walk to their office and at night the entire marina is extremely dark. No where to go at night. Town is miles of industrial plants and a very unsafe residential neighborhood (slum) right outside the marina. Not in any way exaggerating. Should have researched prior. Their restaurant is always exceedingly overpriced for mediocre food at best. Restrooms are just filthy dirty and not cleaned.
Very bad experience. Boat sustained major scratches and very long gouges in our fiberglass. 30 feet of chips and nightmare gouges. The regulars there really show disdain for us transient boaters. There is NO town to go to and I wish we would have read about this place being very industrial and in a bad town on the prior reviews. I’m writing this to let others know. My fiancé and I were guests on a boat here one week ago and the experience was sub par to put it nicely. Much better options out there. No one to answer VHF or phone.
Nice facility with good access in a secure are
Wonderful, clean, easy to get in and out of, help at the docking, friendly people, dog friendly, green space,
The new Dockmaster, Madison, was very helpful, a huge improvement over my prior experience at this location. On the down side, the bathrooms / showers were disgusting, completely unacceptable. I would have thought Safe Harbor was capable of doing better.
We had a wonderful time at Haverstraw Marina. The staff and facilities were excellent and the fellow boaters were friendly and helpful. We will absolutely return.
Best marina service since we left Fort Lauderdale great service by Madison
I only give 1 star because zero stars is not an option. This place is a floating trailer park. Makes sense given its location. Service sucks, management is pathetic and terrible at what they do. Clientele? Well you can imagine.
No one to answer the VHF and no one in the office responded until our 8th call. We were finally assigned a slip, and got settled in after coping with only two viable cleats, when a crabby staff member told us they made a mistake in our slip assignment and we had to move immediately. The neighboring boaters in both slips were as unwelcoming as can be and downright racist to our guests. For a safe harbor marina, it is surprisingly a let down to put it mildly. The industrial setting and loud music from boaters combined with machinery is unsettling. Aside from a major hike to one restaurant on premises, there is nothing else to do but plan your escape.
Nice aluminum docks. Litt bouncy when getting off the boat but sturdy. Nice restrooms laundry room. 4 washers n 4 dryers. Staff very helpful. Taxie service. Nice place .
DO NOT TRUST THIS MARINA. I called ahead to make sure their claim of 15’ depth at the fuel dock and its approach was true. I operate with an 8.5 ft draft and on one trip north to Albany the tides weren’t convenient for Liberty Landing so I looked for other solutions. If you Google deep water marinas of the Hudson the first hit is the Haverstraw Marina. -- IT IS NOT DEEP WATER. They lied on the phone and they lie in print on their website. We ran aground and measured 6 feet at the bow. Now I’m stuck making dingy runs and Jerry cans to get me to Kingston.
This is Nothing like other Safe Harbor marinas! Docks are in rough shape with 3 little cleats for a 40 foot boat. This is not only in a very sad and depressed town, but the marina itself is very loud and in a major industrial setting. The commercial feel of the marina can be felt, and the seasonal boaters strongly dislike the transient boaters. NO Wifi whatsoever and if you plan to walk around there in the evening, forget it, as it is very dark at night. Not allowed to BBQ and the spacing between boats is just absurdly to close for comfort. Wish I could give no stars. Not like other Safe Harbor marinas whatsoever- Avoid!
Very🆚friendly🆚& accommodating staff.🆚Would🆚come🆚back.
Very narrow slips, with no room between your neighboring boat to enjoy any semblance of privacy. Docking at the marina is tricky even for a seasoned captain. The hot and very worn aluminum docks are terrible for dogs. Only one restaurant there and it is a terribly far and very dimly lit walk to find an overpriced and loud restaurant. We were stuck with engine issues and the second night it took us over 45 mins to obtain a taxi, only to discover that the marina is located in a very depressed and run down town with nothing worth going to.
Had a great time staff was very friendly and helpful will be back next year.
To start no one would answer my VHF on calls on arrival. When I tried to call the office, no one answered the phone. Some one answered on the 3rd call. I needed fuel but the fuel dock was closed. It was 4:00pm. Nobody came out to assist us in docking. Normally I don’t need assistance, but the slip I assigned is difficult to enter for my 45ft sailboat which doesn’t have a bow thruster. Finally the office was rude to my wife when she went to the office to get a the key fob for the gate. Can’t make this stuff up!
Unlike other Safe Harbor marinas, this particular one in Haverstraw turned out to be a nightmare. The staff was very hostile towards figuring out a solution to neighboring transient boaters who were arguing loudly and eventually that escalated into a physical fight. After speaking to several other transient boaters there, it is clear that transients are highly unwelcomed by the seasonal boaters and with the slip spaces being right on top of one another, with little room, we thought we would explore the town. Don't bother, the town of Haverstraw is a very depressed and run down old town with no restaurants within miles. Onsite in the marina, is a very overpriced and loud restaurant. Cannot recommend this marina to anyone even for a one night stop-over .
Nice marina. Nice restaurant. Nice office staff.
Very nice stay. One night not long enough
They tell me that 2 docks are open and I set up my boat for port and there is a boat in that slip. Then I go and turn on the power and the power is shut off. Next is that the key fob does not let me in at the pool. So I have to wait for someone to enter or leave. I got there on Monday night at 5:30 and the office is already closed. They really need to have someone on board late if they want to run a business like this to take care of problems like this. They seem to be very unorganized but they want a lot of money for there services. I fell that the right thing to do is to get a refund.
Would not stay here again. The dock master was no where to be found on the cell or radio. We eventually got poor directions to our slip but after going up & down the docks channels we finally figured out where our unmarked slip was. Seasonal boaters hate transients & made that clear. There are no services or facilities to speak of & no where to go in town because I'm told it's dangerous. Not going here again. 2008 40DA from Freeport NY
Not cared for, warped docks. One VERY OVERPRICED restaurant. No WiFi. Filthy restrooms. Industrial amd loud setting. Very long walk to the restrooms or parking lot. Nothing to do, no barbecues, and no walkable town. Town is in no way suitable to walk through. The surrounding area of Haverstraw by the marina is an extremely depressed, urban almost ghetto like area. Transients are looked down upon by seasonal members. Sandbar coming into entrance no one warmed us about.
Nice clean place with a great restaurant Food was excellent
My comments are towards Safe Harbor not the staff at this marina. They avertise they monitor channel 9 and 16 and do not. The VHF at the fuel dock does not work and although there were staff in the office, no response on the VHF or on the phone when we arrived. Please supply this location with proper equipment. There may also be a training issue at the fuel dock. The attendant set us up to put gas in our diesel boat, the issue is the fuel supply lines are both GREEN! Once I told him I needed diesel he responded that it was a good thing I mentioned it. Is this Safe...harbor?
While I don't have a boat docked at Safe Harbor, I have been utilizing their facilities since it was known as the Haverstraw Marina. I must say that the change in management has been a great improvement. The grounds are more organized and cleaner. I live in the area and launch my Wave Runners from the public park in town, but use the fuel docks every weekend. The staff is always attentive and makes docking easy, especially for my friends who are not as familiar with the procedures. I may try to get a slip next season for both of my Wave Runners. I look forward to summer nights at the restaurant and bar after the long pandemic made it a "Lost Year" in the 2020 Season. Congratulations to the management for building a successful team. "Happy Boating"
Stayed at Safe Harbor Haverstraw in August and was disappointed in the poor level of maintenance. Apparently the new owners of the marina have chosen to neglect any much needed repairs. Walking on our finger pier was exceptionally challenging, not to mention the scary, very dark and VERY long walk at night to their restrooms. Don't know why they stick transients over a 1/4 walk away from anything, but the restaurant was too expensive for the level of food, so if you stay here, best to cook aboard. Wouldn't repeat and I'm sorry to say this as I am not one to write poor reviews, but to leave it mildly, we weren't treated well.
Never again - Still waiting for the refund of my overfilled stay. Safe Harbor is the wrong name. Should be not so safe harbor. The worn out aluminum docks put major gouges in my hull, despite me putting out every fender we had. The hot metal dock was well over 130 degrees in the sun and my service dog couldn't stand walking anywhere on the docks. The docks are barely lit, and the walk to the run down restrooms was atrocious. Over half a mile. The town of Haverstraw is a ghetto. We went here since the marina we were trying to get into was overbooked for the night. There is nothing to do at this marina. Wifi not offered either. Would never return here.
What a pleasant surprise to stumble across Safe Harbor Haverstraw on our way down the Hudson. The restaurant was great. Too late in the season for the pool, but it looks new and beautiful. Matt, Sherry, George, Tim, and the entire staff were all super nice and helpful. We were here during COVID-19, and everybody adhered to the rules properly. We bought fuel, and it’s the only place I’ve seen with low speed or high speed fueling pumps. Pump out worked perfectly, and was free. The docks are aluminum, and have room for improvement, but are safe and accessible. Bathrooms looked new. Washers/dryers worked well, and were cheap. We had some minor maintenance done, and we were given courtesy dockage during those repairs. Parts were ordered one afternoon, and here by 7A the next morning. The ships store is undergoing some changes, and it will be a whole new store next time we come through. The town of Haverstraw is not walking distance (nothing is). We took a cab into town for provisions and found everything we needed.
Unorganized office and worn out docks with broken cleats and no workable Wifi. Restaurant was tremendously overpriced, especially for the quality of food. Thought of taking a $23. dollar taxi to town but was warned by others that the village of Haverstraw is dangerous at night.
First time there beautiful place would absolutely come back again!
Marina is looking like it has seen better days in the past. The docks are old and twisted. The electric on our slip had two bad 30 amp plug. There was no help to tie up during the weekend, and we arrived during a 15 to 20 knot day and had to deal with it alone. I will not be back. The staff couldn't have cared less. I got docking instructions over the radio and could not tell what slip I should be in because the numbers are on the DOCK side and can not bee seen from a boat. There is an overpriced restaurant located outside the gate and another down side of that is that it is a WALK, aside from being overly pricey. The general feel is that the whole place is tired and no safe town to walk into.
Our boat broke down and we weren’t able to make it before they closed but Sherrie was super-helpful and emailed us a map of the marina. The slip numbers are very small so it was difficult to find the slip but truly the only issue. The whole office staff was friendly and courteous. The service dept was prompt and knowledgeable. Overall a nice place to spend the weekend! Thanks everybody!!
Very friendly staff.
Great place to stay Nice restaurant adjacent to Marina
Our stay was truly superb! Excellent accommodations and service. All staff were incredibly hospitable. We will be back again! Thank you!
Very wavy and unprotected. Walk to the restrooms was ridiculously far. Took an expensive taxi ride through a very run down town to Shop Rite miles away. Won't repeat
Excellent accommodations and amenities. Some things need some updated, but overall it was a good experience. the staff was friendly and helpful. I have stayed overnight twice this season and have found it to be reasonable for the price.
Everything fine including management and personnel pleasant stay.
Arrived at Haverstraw marina a few days prior to the Hurricane's arrival, thinking it might be a good spot to wait out an impending storm, but we got wedged into a dilapidated, very warped, and rusty old metal dock that was too tight. Our dog burned her feet on the super hot aluminum docks. No wooden docks anywhere and no where to walk our dog! If that weren't enough, there were only 3 extremely small cleats to use to tie up our 50 foot boat, and our stern cleat came loose from the dock after only a few hours. The haverstraw marina in inside an industrial park and is surrounded by a huge industrial parks with NOTHING around whatsoever unless you take a VERY expensive cab to a run down Shop Rite that isn't all that big. Not even anything to do in the town, and we spoke with several regulars there. Regulars aren't all that fond of transient boaters. Docks are too noisy, and place needs a makeover. Safe Harbor wasn't any protection from the storm and our neighbor's boat sustained thousands of dollars worth of damage. This marina isn't worth going to even when there is no storm. It is too exposed to every (passing by) commercial boat and barge traffic on the river. Won't stop here on way back south.
Was disappointed in the conditions of the docks as well as the lack of protection from the boats passing by in the main channel. Our Tiara got major chips in the fiberglass from the constant rocking and rolling in there. Tried to take a taxi into town, and we cannot strongly suggest to anyone to NOT go into any sections of town surrounding the marina. Very run down and dangerous village. Wifi was non existent and cleats were loose. Our golden retriever had a very hard time walking on the hot and very warped aluminum docks. Was treated very rudely by the "members" there with their seasonal slips.
Success in weathering the storm. Thanks
Had a nice stay at the marina. The men’s shower area could use some updating due to loose baseboards, and a small hole in the wall, but it served it’s purpose. The aluminum panels that are covering the raceways on the aluminum docks, tend to make quite a racket while walking on them, and you feel like you are disturbing the other guests. We ate dinner at the Hudson Water Club...a bit pricey, but the burgers were 10 ozs, flavorful, and came with a generous portion of french fries. Having said that the overall experience was a positive one, and I would recommend Safe Harbor Haverstraw.
Nice place for a quick stay over. Restaurant not as great as they claim it to be. Pool area is nice but the "residents" are not so kind to transient boaters.
This is a very nice marina. The staff were very welcoming. We enjoyed dinner at their water-front patio restaurant. The other boaters we friendly and helpful.
Plenty of slips available, beautiful pool and restaurant! Helpful staff and very clean bathrooms
Great service. Great restaurant. All facilities clean and ready.
Area was terrific ! Management terrible. No Welcome! Bathrooms undersized for 850 slips Slip was to small for my boat Pool was not open to transients what a terrible name for a visiting Commodore from a very respected Yacht Club . Marina ran out of Ice Bar and Restaurant was very accommodating . I mentioned during my booking I was a Commodore from a visiting Yacht Club this meant absolutely nothing. Ps. Unfortunately I would not recommend the 175 members from my club to stay at this Marina until something changes ! PC . D.Gordon Great Kills Yacht Club
Needed a getaway during Pandemic and a trip to Haverstraw was perfect. Marina is easy to navigate, solid docks, well maintained slips with good electrical and cable boxes. They followed good safety precautions with signage limiting number of people in the office, safety plexiglass, reminders to wear masks and all staff wearing masks. The pool area was great and set up for social distancing. The bathrooms were freshly renovated, air conditioned and sparkling clean. None of the safety precautions felt intrusive. The staff was professional yet flexible--felt like concierge service. One of the dock staff (they seemed to be everywhere dressed in their uniform red shirts) informed us of the activities which that weekend featured fireworks in the next cove. I saw them assisting boaters with provisions and toting ice bags to boats. We did not make it to the restaurant (I should have made reservations). Followed another reviewer's recommendation and went to Union restaurant in town. All in all felt like a resort.
We had a great stay at Haverstraw Safe Harbor Marina these past 4 days! Safe Harbor has already made many improvements and the new Marina Mgr. Matt and his staff are right on top of things. And if you need boating supplies or parts, Samalot Marine is well stocked and very knowledgeable. The owners, George and Barbara are the best! All in all a great Marina for either seasonal or transient boaters!
Not returning here again. Only two very loose cleats on a noisy and warped finger dock. There is no town whatsoever to walk to and this marina is in a very run down poor town. Not welcomed at all by regular seasonal tenants and food at the restaurant was way overpriced. Very rocky from constant wake of barges and shipping lane which goes right past this very industrial boatyard.
Great stay. Calm marina, slept well. Found an amazing restaurant in town, Union. We highly recommend it!
Loved it. Easy to get to and easy to dock. Slip was ready and electric 30A was ready. Marina staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you and see you again soon!
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The marina grounds are nice and the restaurant is great with an unbeatable view of the Hudson River. On the downside, the docks, which are very dark at night and not in the best of condition, are very long, and the transient slips are quite a distance from the restaurant and the marina office, whose staff, by the way, was not at all friendly.
Very dilapidated docks. Our boat got several good sized scratches and fiberglass chunks taken out of it from the bouncing in the marina. No dockhands, and no wifi. Restaurant ok but PRICEY. No town to go to whatsoever. Very industrial setting and noisey.
Actually I have no experience with Haverstraw Marina since they did not respond to my reservation request for a slip for my October cruise with the New York Yacht Club.
Very pleasant stay. At our arrival dockhands were sent to our slip to provide help with docking. Dock is well maintained and equipped with protection bumpers and corner wheels. Restaurant service and food was great and and cost was very reasonable.
Our 47' Viking got some heavy gauges and many scratches from the jagged metal docks. Not protected from the boats constantly zooming right outside the low seawall. No Wifi and disorganized office staff. Restaurant was so so , but extremely expensive prices for everything. Very loud tiki bar till all hours of the night. Seasonal boaters there not enthused to have transient boaters at all.
Good services, we were well received, enjoyed a quiet stay even on the weekend. Restaurant near by. Greatly recommended.
Poor WiFi dock fingers very unstable. First slip too small second slip ok but short. Fuel service and price excellent.
Run down and Very poor customer service. NO WIFI ! Office staff was semi rude and of no help. Very rocky with any sort of winds not to mention the main shipping channel is right there outside the marinas sea wall. Very loud Tiki bar . Service from Samalot marine was way overpriced and not at all what we asked for to begin with. Much better choices in marinas out there. Docks were dilapidated and hot twisted metal with only 2 cleats. Both super loose. Our boat got all scuffed up on our one night stay .
Wi-Fi NOT available, despite being listed under amenities in the Haverstraw Marina Website. The office informed us it was not available and they did not know when or if it would become available.
Haverstraw marina is run down, and rather uncared for at this point. We were guests on a 35 foot vessel in July. Forget bringing a dog here. The docks are super hot, jagged metal, worn out with giant holes, noisy, and every dock we saw, had loose cleats everywhere, if you can find a cleat that is. Took an hour to find a staff member to find our assigned slip, and then found out the next morning that we were placed in a seasonal boater's slip. Too organized and very rocky with all the boats from the passing channel zooming by, not to mention all the giant work barges. Not returning in the spring.
Beautiful marina < clean ~ friendly ~ views of the mountains ⚓️
Nice marina but no WiFi or cable as listed in dockwa. They charge $10 for every two people to use the pool. This is annoying!
Poor service. We stopped at 6:00pm to stay the night and not a soul in site. We managed docking our boat by ourselves. The next morning we went to pay the bill and gates were locked. Not even a garbage can was accessible. We did reach someone on the phone to pay the bill after we tried yet again to get around locks to get to an office. Of the few people we spoke to on the phone, no one seem to know what was going on. We would never come back here. Despite the poor service, they charged us for a full ride.
Nice marina, but the office is a little unorganized
Very nice marina. Bathrooms could use some renovations but other then that it was very good experience.
I had been a customer of this marina for twenty years, and I have watched the yearly decline of a poorly run establishment. The absentee owner runs this marina for a single reason, which is to make as much money as possible, while providing sub par services. Most marinas are run by owner operators, and in those cases, there exists a level of pride and concern. Sadly, this is not the case with Haverstraw marina. It once had great attributes, and could be so much better, if only the owner cared. I would like to see this marina get bought out and then maybe it could become a full service marina. - My heartfelt advice is to find another place to visit and or seasonally stay at, unless you don't care about customer service.
Old, completely worn-out rickety, hot metal docks that our golden retriever could not tolerate walking on. Was quite an extremely long walk to land. Only thing there, is a super far walk to an overpriced restaurant that has anot endless variety of smokers. NO docklands were available to us , and we called on the phone as well as VHF in advance. Only 2 , VERY loose and severly undersized cleats in our 40 foot slip. Adjacent boat to our left, was only one foot away and hardly enough room for bumpers! Frustrating as all get out! We originally decided that this would be an ideal location based on the glowing description that was written on this site by Haverstraw marina itself. To sum up, It did NOT live up to much if anything at all that was written.
Great facility, good restaurant
Very nice marina on the Hudson river. It's a huge marina so it's a bit of a walk from your boat to land. The grounds are pretty and the facilities are clean.
We stayed here for a big weekend and it was great, staff very helpful. We loved the view from the pool along the Hudson. The bar next to the pool was great, awesome bands (dj's well they are dj's) the bartenders were always trying to get you something. We never at at the Hudson Water Club (the restaurant at the marina) prices were as high as NYC, but the bar menu was great. Sorry to say I can not comment on anything outside of the marina except if you went by boat, great bay and beach directly across the river to swim in, ran up to West Point which was great also. Just the run up the Palasades was awesome, this is not a big boat marina we met a lot of people from S.I. N.Y. with 25 footers
