Loved Jekyll Island, so quaint and beautiful. Having the free golf carts to use on the island is a big plus. Good docks ,well maintained and very helpful staff. Two points of frustration unfortunately. First, we radioed 1 mile out and gave our arrive time at the marina to get our slip assignment. We were instructed to call again when we were within 1/4 mile away. We followed those instructions to then have to wait too long in strong winds for the staff to decide on our slip location. We were finally told we would be in a stern in slip with a starboard side tie. When we got to that location the dock hands were waiting in the slip next door, which required a port side tie, forcing us to maneuver in tight quarters with a strong wind, not ideal. Secondly, the slip we were in was shallow enough that during low tide that day had our boat on or very near the bottom (draft 3.5'), thus sucking up mud to the point of clogging the strainer and causing our a/c units to error out, again not a great situation.
