2026 was our 10th season at the South Side Marina on the Monongahela River. We love this place. The people here are friendly and helpful. The Marina has new ownership this year, it’s too early to rate the new owners.

Great location. However, overpriced for what’s offered. No on-site fuel (and no allowance for portable cans to top off jet skis/PWCs), and minimal community events compared to Fox Chapel and better-valued alternatives nearby.

Tough year for boating, but marina still does a nice job. I just worry that if more docks are added there is not enough parking.

This is FOX CHAPEL’ s “ step child” ! If you would like “ amenities “ they AINT ‘T here .No gas , undersized exhaust fans when ya take a shower, why go to the spa ? Lastly , you had best request a Landward facing slip ! At $100 per day , it is sometimes impossible to dock IF one has a RIVERWARD slip - slight wind and a constant high river flow requires a skilled operator ! Lastly , this is a RIVER marina and subject to the conditions at hand . Lake marinas rise and fall , period . Be prepared to be slip bound due to excessive UPSTREAM DRIFT-logs/debris . After being a 30 foot slip renter for 11 years , the amenities do not justify my return ! Oh , not a “ social friendly dock” .MILLENNIALS will walk right past you, head down not even acknowledging your greeting . This all changed after year 2 of being there , you may confirm this by my 40 year old Dockmates -bizarre !?!?-Good bye!

While I understand the weather conditions are not in control with the Marina I feel the Marina should be responsible for clearing debris. There was more debris this year than in any of the last six years. Many people will not be returning because of this. When you go to the dock and spend more time removing debris than boating it’s a problem. The deflection wall has been rebuilt years ago but it’s obviously not doing a good enough job of deflecting debris from the marina. Improvements need made. Southside marina has the potential to be one of the best marinas in the city. There is high turnover every year due to these issues. I have also asked that a camera be put in place for slip holders to be able to access so they can see the current river conditions and better knowing before coming down or not to the marina. Many people drive 30-60 minutes to the marina only to find out the current is too fast or there is too much debris in the water to go out. Please respond to any changes of the above before I confirm my slip for the 7th year.

I’ve been a tenant for 8 seasons. That is the best marina in the Pittsburgh pool. The fellow boaters are great except for a couple. But there are always some bad apples.

Another great season. I do however have a suggestion for timing next year. While I understand everyone is eager to get into the water May 1st. The weather is rarely ready for boating. I suggest we shift the season from 5-15 - 10/31. Weather has changed over the years and we have not adjusted to accommodate. At a very minimum, it would be nice to extend the season to the weekend following the last day so folks can enjoy as most time as possible. For example, this year 10/15 was a Thursday, it would have been nice to allow boats to stay in until this coming Sunday to allow for pulling boats on the weekend without ending their season shorter than it already is. Would also be nice to have a reliable working ice machine, feel like that was broken most of the season again. Otherwise, another great season at the marina.
