What a find! Wickford Marina is a great place to stay if you’re looking for some peace and quiet. The marina is located on a quiet extension of Wickford harbor and doesn’t see the crowds and noise evident in the main harbor area. The owner and his dockhand are super helpful and skilled besides. I watched them calmly handle a bunch of boats that all arrived at the same time on a busy Saturday. The facilities are in excellent shape. This includes the wooden floating docks, the heads and the showers. There’s a large gas grill available for all boater’s to use - complete with paper plates, plastic silverware and many condiments. I didn’t use the jacuzzi but I’m told it’s very inviting. Coffee and donuts on weekend mornings are a definite treat - along with the conversations with fellow boater’s who have gathered to enjoy them. The village of Wickford is enchanting and only a 1/2 mile walk from the marina. If you’re into old houses, there are beautiful ones here. We saw some that dated from before the Revolutionary War and are still used as residences. There are a couple good restaurants within walking distance. Sadly there was no ice cream available. We found the Wickford Marina to be much more relaxing than nearby Newport and will make this our main stop when in the area.
