Sag Harbor Yacht Yard was first established in 1797 as Rysam's Boat Yard. The owner's first job was to build the 200 ton brigantine, "Merchant". The yard went on to build many more ships for the trades. As the Whaling industry came into its own, Capt. Rysam was right there building and outfitting his own whalers as well as those of other Sag Harbor captains and companies. These whalers took advantage of the whaling grounds off of Brazil.
The Yard continued to play an important part of the maritime industry of the day. It built the cutter USS Spark (1813). A 103', 310 ton brig, that eventually found its way to the Mediterranean to fight the Barbary Pirates. Afterward, it sailed back to the Caribbean to suppress the pirates there, where she was successful in capturing a number of pirate ships and their crews.
The Yard continued on through the 1800's building coastal cruisers and maintaining the same. As WWI and WWII came about the yard was pressed into service for the Navy, outfitting minesweepers and helping in the development of torpedoes.
Beautiful location, new shore boat, helpful and friendly staff.
Terrible odor from waste facility next door - Shoal right in front of boats on east side - common to bottom out Service is based on the mood of the Yard Operations manager Only saving grace is that it is in Sag Harbor
Great stay! Jim and his staff were very accommodating.
Terrible experience. I made a reservation through Dockwa and confirmed with the Marina office the week before. My wife and I arrived on our boat at the appointed time. we tried calling via phone and radio but no answer. The marina was in chaos, the office was closed and there was only one employee at the facility. He was piloting the launch and dealing with all other issues. We were told there were no slips available and no one in the office to talk to. At that point all other marinas were booked as well and we faced a potential nighttime cruise back to Connecticut. Finally were were able to find a spare slip ath the marina, only to find the amenities of the marina were minimal or out of service. Our electrical hookup was not functioning and the bathroom hosted one toilet and one small shower stall. The only positive was the helpfulness and positive attitude on the one marina employee on site. He tried his hardest but he needed support. I believe Sag Harbor Yacht Yard and Marina was recently purchased by an investment / private equity firm....and it shows Clearly cost cutting and a disregard for the employees is the mantra here. I do recommend this facility.
September 2022 Back again for 3 weeks ! Still the jewel we remembered Took the opportunity to get their expertise on varnish work while enjoying lovely Sag Harbor. All walking distance
Loved this location! My husband and I came for the Sag Harbor American Music Festival and we had a wonderful stay. The staff was lovely and very helpful. There was a ship store with everything we needed and a very funny chandler to help you find what your looking for. The village was just 5 minute walk with a great selection of restaurants. We look forward to coming back Summer 2020! October 2021- My husband and I got a chance to swing through the harbor during the weekend of the music festival and since it was the end of the season we were lucky enough to get a slip at the Yacht Yard for 2 nights. Always a nice stay- quick walk into town- floating docks- helpful and friendly crew of guys!
beautiful views from the slips, helpful yard guys, well experienced staff, and a fun chandlery for all your needs. This place has a local neighborhood/ family feel, that is happy to help you.
My favorite place to catch the MOST beautiful sunset! Sag Harbor is so fun in the summer and we always look forward to docking at SHYY. Perfect spot to also catch the Fireworks. Improvements are always being made and last season they added dock cameras and better wifi which was a breeze to connect to. Our boys love it too bc there is a bait store on the property and they love fishing. Summer 2021---Another lovely stay at what I consider one of the best slips in the Harbor. Great staff, strong Wi-Fi, and a beautiful peaceful stay. Always sad to go...
We Stayed there the evening of the Sag Harbor Fireworks. A charming, quiet small spot with fantastic views. Help was very friendly . They provide parking!! A huge plus in Sag Harbor. We will be back again ASAP!! We are back again for 2019. Grest improvements this season. Internet is all new and fabulous. What a pleasure to have a car here with an assigned parking space! We are thinking we would like to make this our new home base. Just arrived back for Labor Day weekend. The place is still looking better than ever before. Courteous and helpful staff assisted us with a rental car and a minor repair including sending for a part. What a lovely spot. Spent a good deal of May ,2021 back in our favorite spot . I wish the weather had been better. But the availability of assigned parking was a godsend. Its simple small and like living at your own waterfront estate. Staff got us out of a major mechanical jam with empathy and skill. Thanks guys!
Docked for a week summer 2019. Docks are new and beautiful. WiFi is professionally installed and great throughout the docks. Dockmaster helpful and parking is hard to beat. Right in central sag harbor. Lot of large yachts dock here. If you are on a smaller boat, and don't want to shower or use the head on your boat you will find the single shower / bathroom provided by the marina a bit underwhelming and a bit of a walk. With the price they are charging, another restroom+shower would be reasonable.
Very accommodating staff. Good location close, but not too close to town.
Low key, great and quiet location in sag, staff is great although not always around, needs to have internet for the price they charge.
Be wary of the manager/original owner He has a local reputation for unscrupulous dealings, overcharging, padding bills, unsatisfactory service, and on and on. There are new owners, yes, but the old owner still manages the marina so, unfortunately, my warning remains. [Edited review 7/2018]
What a great spot right in Sag Harbor. New floating docks with good power and wifi make this a nice place to dock.
Spent several days at the newly renovated Yacht Yard. Great find in the heart of Sag Harbor! Easy walk into town and amazing views. Dockhands were right there to assist us and really good power. Will make this our stop every year!
