Report Review
I’d like to give the city moorings a better review, but there wasn’t a lot of upside and some pretty bad downsides. First, we were the only boat staying on one of the more than two dozen city owned moorings. But there were two anchored sailboats just on the edge of the field. Anchoring is free and easily within a short dinghy ride to the city’s dinghy dock which is open to the public. Makes you wonder how they can charge $40 to stay on one of the balls. But that would explain why we were the only boat.
The downsides: the mooring field is adjacent to the city owned customs dock. Unfortunately, this dock becomes a hangout for vagrants and partiers at various times of day and night. On our stay, extremely loud music was played both nights until past 1 am and no consideration was given to the boats right there. There is a police substation at the foot of the pier, but the police don’t seem bothered by the vagrants, drugs use, or late night parties.
