We came to FIYC from Dodsons in Stonington and the contrast was stark. If I never meet the young dock hand, again it’ll be too soon. His attitude soured the experience from the get go. Grudgingly courteous, he lacked warmth, hospitality, and good manners. He had the gall to comment upon my wife’s degree of participation during docking. I suspect he is well thought of by the FIYC members since he was attentive to them. That’s not a bad thing in and of itself, but he essentially encouraged a member to buzz the dock a few times in a jet boat, which caused a wake.
Lincoln White, the dockmaster was very helpful, after the fact. The market was worth the long walk. I’d say the marina is trying to gain positive cash flow for the yacht club, but for someone without friends on the island, it would be better if they had a few moorings and a dingy Dock.
I won’t go back unless I’m visiting someone on the island.
