The marina hosts, Paul and Nahani are exceptionally helpful and actually joyous people. The docks are new and in excellent condition - they are high tech and not just wooden refurbished but concrete and grating materials that are easy to walk. No nails sticking up and no loose boards!
The covered area at the head of the dock ramp is beautiful with very generous and very comfortable seating on huge sectional couches and comfy chairs. Gas fire tables provide heat and light at night or just a great spot to read, share boating stories, have a night cap or a cold drink on sunny warm days.
The local walking trails can be either easy or very challenging, your choice of effort. There are a couple of resident black bear in the area so you will be given an air horn and bear spray. We carried an empty pop can with a few loose pebbles to make noise as we walked.
Host Paul saved the vacation of a fellow boater that needed a replacement pulley to drive their raw water pump on the engine. Paul arranged for a new pulley to be machined in Campbell River, flown to Refuge Cove and then took his own vessel to refuge cove to pick up the part! The folks he saved had been trying for nearly 3 weeks at other locations to get a replacement part - but Paul had connections that saved the day. Paul and Nahani will go out of their way to help you. Be sure to thank them profusely!
