About

The Kenney family has owned and operated Blackwell Point Marina for 18 years. All new piers, water, and electric service were new in 2016. Located on Smith Creek in Oriental, North Carolina. Just past Day Marker #10 on the right. Pamlico Sound is an enclosed body of water with few points open to the Ocean. That being said, our water levels are mostly driven by the wind. Similar to the Great Lakes. When the wind is SW, our water levels in Pamlico Sound and the adjacent bays and creeks tend to stay on the low side. When the wind is from the NE, the Sound and everything associated with it tends to be on the high side. Our standard tide range is only about 18". Please keep this in mind when you are operating your vessel in our area. Read about Pamlico Sound in your waterway guide and see all the fun facts that cover this wonderful area.

The following is a list of amenities we offer:

  1. Slips that can accommodate vessels up to 50’ LOA.
  2. Water and Electric (20 amp service) Adapters are provided
  3. Dinghy Storage
  4. ADA Boaters Head and wheelchair ramp to Boat Shop.
  5. Short-term rental apartment.
  6. Plenty of parking.
  7. Easy access to village.
  8. On-call mechanic for repairs
  9. Airport Shuttle Service

If you have any questions or requests, we will do our best to see you and your vessel are treated as our special guests.

As you enter Oriental Harbor, you will notice a fixed bridge. This bridge leads to Smith Creek. The bridge has a fixed height of 45'. Please consider your mast height before you decide to head towards Smith Creek.

Height Marker Day Boards are posted at eye level on the bridge. The water level is at a measured point on these Height Markers to allow the boater to see what the current clearance is.

This marina—10 or so private dock slips, of which only 1 or 2 are for transients—offers a different side of Oriental from that of the marina and inn at Wall Street. Blackwell Point Marina is just past R10 in Smith Creek. If you can go under the bridge, you can spend an evening or two in a quiet, peaceful creek side neighborhood. Captain Steve Kenney was there to help us dock our 36-foot Monk (4-foot draft), and we stayed secure during a day-long big blow. The electricity is 20 amp, so you need an adaptor (20 amp household plug to 30 amp shore power cable). Steve has it available. While Blackwell Point Marina seems to be worlds away from Wall Street and Oriental harbor, it’s only an easy 1-mile walk away from all the activity and restaurants and an even easier half mile from the Piggly Wiggly. Besides, Steve offers the use of a golf cart for errands and restaurant meals. The wifi signal was only 2 bars, but steady and fast. I would give this marina 5 stars, but it loses a star for the bathroom, which is no-frills functional. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day stay until the winds died down, and we plan to stop here again next time we come to Oriental.

Great wifi. A little bit of a walk to town. Docks are very nice. Small marina, not super deep but ok. Would stay again.

Magical little town. The marina was perfect for us. Steve was helpful and very kind. Use of the golf cart was a bonus.

Steve and the folks at Blackwell Point were VERY accommodating when we found the public dock to be full. Mainly sailboats here, but the dock tenants were friendly, helpful, and gracious to us powerboaters. Use of the golf cart to get to town was an extra bonus!

Blackwell Point Marina is owned and managed by someone who understands boats and boaters! The docks are excellent, facilities are clean and you are welcomed with true "southern hospitality". The slips are open to beautiful views, easy transiting in and out and in a nice quiet location. Whether you are looking to stay a week or a year, we highly recommend Blackwell Point Marina.
