Always appreciate good customer service. Had a great dockhand greet us at SHZ, even wearing a face mask, which we appreciated. During 19 day cruise in July (meaning lots of overnights in marinas for power/AC), this had by far the best pool. Only knock on SHZ is price. How about giving transients a break on quick overnights in the middle of the week? $100 for a 39 ft trawler on a Tuesday seems high. But I’m a cheapskate.
Marina is popular because of convenient location next to Great Bridge but really could use some refreshing. Pier light next to us appeared to be held up by a shoestring. In 20 day trip from Annapolis to Beaufort, NC and back, AYB dockhand was only one we encountered who offered no help except to catch the lines. He seemed poorly trained. Just this captain’s perspective...maybe just a little off that day.
Friendly marina with a very casual vibe. Have to deduct a star due to exposure of transient slips. Big southerly wind gave us a lot of uncomfortable chop. Should be okay if winds are light or from a different direction.
Spent 2 nights at Homer Smith Docks in July 2020 during trip from Annapolis to Beaufort and back. Great location in Beaufort. We availed ourselves of complementary ice, bikes, laundry, and marina car. Car was essential as we had to restock galley and also had to get a new crank battery. Highly recommended as a convenient and friendly stop on ICW.
Love this small marina. Fantastic service from dockmaster Greg, great restroom decor! And located right next to Belhaven’s hardware store and best restaurants. Super place for a short stop.
