Homer Smith Docks and Marina

This is the best marina we've stayed at one the east coast!

Dan was very helpfull. I got the slip layout and channel in. I was helped into my slip. Homer Smith is a very clean top Marina Stop!

The marina was first rate, the amenities offered for no additional cost were great.

We stayed at Homer Smith for around 2 weeks while having some work done on the boat. Dan from the marina office was extremely helpful in connecting us with several marine service companies in the area. The facilities are excellent (free laundry, clubhouse, toilets and showers, courtesy car.....). This location is very convenient to historic downtown Beaufort. In addition we met several great folks that were passing thru. Highly recommend Homer Smith.....

3rd visit and the facilities are a good as they were 2 years ago when new! Docks are an easy approach even in wind and tide and Dan makes the process even easier. Less than 10 minutes to waterfront shops and restaurants walking past historic homes and close to a neighborhood grocery.

This is my top pick for marinas on the ICW. Everything is spotless, new and topnotch. We usually stay at Towne Creek across the river, but the great reviews got me to give "the Marina with the funny name" a try. Reviews are spot on. Well-lighted, wide concrete floating piers. CLEAN. Beautiful clubhouse with wonderful comfy captains lounge with morning coffee. Three sets FREE large commercial washers/dryers that can handle bedding, etc. Outstanding service. Can't say enough about how well run this marina is. The loaner car was the easiest process ever. A clipboard with sign-out sheet and a key hanging in the laundry room. The loaner is a minivan in good condition. Loaner bikes, too. Slip fee was a bit less than Towne Creek. No pool, but we never use them anyway. Dog friendly. Lots of good restaurants within .5 mile. Blue Moon Bistro is excellent. Great chef. The nearby Food Lion was surprisingly nice and well-stocked (Publix spoiled me for grocery stores). Because of the hurricane, we extended our stay from 3 to 7 days. Great weekly discount made it affordable (total cost was under $700 with 50amp). Even with that bad weather and river traffic, the outside T-head was not an issue. Very little rocking even with the bad winds. Would gladly stay here again. (48 Kadey-Krogan trawler)

This was our second stay at Homer Smith Marina. We were planning on only staying 1 night but due to a Tropical Storm, we decided to stay for a week. The floating docks, Captain’s Lounge, free laundry, and courtesy car make this a great marina. Dockmaster is friendly and knowledgeable. It’s an easy walk to the downtown area that has a lot of restaurants and shops. We will definitely come back to Homer Smith Marina again.

We stayed for 2 nights and it was great! Dan was very helpful catching lines and helping us dock on a windy day. Facilities are top notch! Courtesy car was nice for getting groceries a couple miles away. Downtown Beaufort was an easy walk from the marina. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Weather had our plans changing and the marina staff just kept adjusting our reservations without complaint. When we finally arrived, we were so pleased to find everything as beautiful as we had read. Free front loading washers, clean, large private bathrooms with beautiful tile showers, and a courtesy van to help with our provisioning! Definitely will be back on our return south!

Dock hand is amazing and so helpful. Filled up with fuel, pumped out and then pulled into our slip. Marina very clean with free washer/dryer and marine vehicle if you need to do a grocery run. Beaufort is just a short walk - great town!

Great place, second time there and it was as good as the first! Dan (Dockmaster) is an awesome guy and very helpful and knowledgeable. He spotted me coming in and made sure I came in the proper way. Once at the dock he tied us up and got us situated with fuel and electric. Gave us a great dinner recommendation also!

Stayed here three days on our way from Marathon, FL to Wickford, RI. Top notch facility. Dock Master Dan Hawryschuk accommodated our request for an additional night (early arrival) when we went outside from Wrightsville to avoid the Onslow Beach Bridge closure. Dan also provided great instructions on entering and docking and on leaving the marina - local knowledge warning us against an improvident shoal crossing to rejoin the ICW. Courtesy van was a bit plus as I was in need of oil, pads & propane and a visit to the local ACE hardware. We've stayed at several marinas on our way up the coast, and this one is a stand-out. Would repeat our visit in a heartbeat.

This is the best. From arrival to departure excellent service and facility. The dockmaster, Dan, is the most experienced and skilled we have worked with on our trip. It’s true. Free large washers and dryers, a courtesy vehicle and nice boaters lounge. Very clean all around. Short walk or bike ride to Front street and the “action”. Really nice community. We enjoyed the Rock the Dock concert Downtown and on Saturday morning the farmers market.

Awesome stop! Dan assisted us at the fuel dock, then at our slip and again on our way out. The facilities are great - free laundry with 3 sets of new machines, 3 showers, a lounge with coffee and tv, a covered porch with rocking chairs, and a free courtesy van that you can book for 2 hours. Easy walk into historic Beaufort and drive to West Marine, Walmart, etc. Very quiet here at night. Highly recommended.

Very nice set up. Club house was well set up. 3 free washers and dryers to use. Loaner van was great to use for up to 2 hours. Free ice was another nice feature. Large freezer room like 10 ft by 10 ft with ice being dropped on the floor. No ice bags but shovels to load what ever amount of ice you could use. Very friendly staff

WOW!!!!! This is one great marina!! A beautiful facility with a top notch staff!!! Dan Hawryschuk Dock Master/Assistant Manager is bar none one of the best we have encountered! The minute we reached out and said we were coming in he was in constant radio contact and walked us right into our slip. He handled the lines, got us secured, hooked up our power and made sure we were all set. We went to the office to check in and he showed us the facilities. The pictures don't lie. They are current and accurate! Free laundry, free loaner car, free ice, clean showers ( look new ) great lounge area. Wi-Fi works well, docks are in great condition. Walking distance to downtown…approximately 4 blocks. We loved our stay here and would highly recommend to anyone passing through. This place is an absolute gem and an affordable rate !

Great Staff, location and amenities. The washer/dryer are free to use and good quality. The pump-out station is free and self -service. There is a lounge area with TV, couches and dock overlooking the marina. Would highly recommend staying at this marina.

We enjoyed this marina very much. The grounds are beautiful and the Dockmaster was very helpful. There is free laundry with new machines, a beautiful Captains lounge, free ice, and nice showers. It is located just a few blocks from the Historic District, too.

What a great place to stay on a dock! This is by far the best value we have experienced in the east coast below Cape Hatteras. Lots of amenities, dock master who knows his stuff and new facilities. Only 10 minutes walk from the Beaufort waterfront. We will be back!

What a nice place! Staff were helpful, ice was free, laundry was free and the machines were excellent. There are three showers and they are all very nice. We were able to use the courtesy car and run some errands, which was terrific. We did not use the pump out equipment. The marina was calm and quiet. It is also within walking distance to restaurants.

Very friendly staff. Nice short walk into town. We were here in 2019 and look at the place now! Wow, what a transformation. Super nice marina! Only drawback was that we were woken up at 5 AM by a bunch of guys going fishing. They were loud and having a good time. Unfortunately for us that was it, no sleeping in that morning. So we packed up and left the marina early.

Beautiful new marina where there were shrimp docks, 2 new floating transient docks along with several docks worth of boat lifts. A new clubhouse with 3 immaculate shower/toilet rooms, as well as complimentary great laundry. The boaters lounge held a small kitchen and comfortable couches to enjoy the big TV, a nice respite in cold weather. Excellent dockmaster took good care of us, and really appreciated use of the courtesy van and plenty of shopping available in Moorehead City. The marina was nicely situated in the quiet part of Beaufort, but quick walk to downtown historic district and restaurants.

Homer smith docks was wonderful! It had so many convenient amenities, especially the free laundry, really nice newly renovated bathrooms/showers and club house and the car you could borrow at any time! The dock-master Dan was super helpful throughout our entire stay and a wealth of information. We were held up arriving by a night due to weather and he kindly allowed us to tack on a night on the end of our stay to make up for it. It was the perfect stop to regroup and explore on our first ICW trip south and we hope to stop here again on our return!

Top Rate! Evens before we arrived the excellent service started. The harbor master called early in the day to confirm our ETA and then met us at the dock when we arrived. The facility is one of the best we have seen on our travels including laundry, showers and courtesy car. Added bonus is close proximity to downtown Beaufort and it’s parks, walkways and restaurants.

Matt and Tony have done a great job converting the old commercial dock into a great state of the art marina. We stop here twice a year every year for the last five years. Short walk into town, no current, very protected. Add in the free laundry, free Pumpout and the loaner car you can’t beat it. One of our favorite stops on the east coast. Reasonably priced as well. .

Love this marina! The new laundry, shower/restroom facilities and captain’s lounge are all great. Beautiful landscaping and rockers on the front porch for watching the amazing sunsets with new friends. The courtesy car is icing on the cake. Short walk through beautiful neighborhoods to town for an excellent dinner is a treat. Dock master Matt, Tony and Dan are all so helpful, accommodating and supportive. We’ll be back!

Great facility with a helpful, friendly staff. It's away from the constant tourist traffic on Front Street, but still only a very short walk to all of the shops and restaurants.

One of our favorite places to stay. Great staff, beautiful facilities, and friendly people. Downtown is a short walk away. Farmers market around the corner on Saturdays.

On a Leopard 45' sailing catamaran with 23' beam and 5' draft. This place caters primarily to smaller powerboat but keeps a few slips for catamarans. Facilities are top notch, looks brand new. Assistance from the office was great too. walking distance (10 min) from old town and small convenience store. Would definitely return.

Top 5 marina on the ICW and a favorite of ours. Dockmaster Dan asks "How can we be number one?"

This was our second visit here. While they have nice free laundry and showers, we sadly will not ever visit again. Heading up the ICW, we were trying to time our runs north through the Pamlico and Albemarle sounds to avoid inbound high winds, and planned 2 nights at the marina. The morning of checkin, predictions of very high winds began to move in earlier, necessitating sooner crossings. When we checked in we told them we could now only stay 1 night as we had to leave to make it across Palmico and Albemarle sounds. They told us we needed to comply with a 24 hour cancellation policy which was what we did, however they said it needed to be before we even checked in. We asked for them to credit the one night and they refused. We have stayed at countless marinas in the states and the Bahamas and this is the first time a marina has penalized us due to bad weather. Clearly not boater friendly!

We had a great experience at Homer Smith Marina. Dockmaster Dan was very helpful to us as we arrived and docked, as well as being a great resource for us during our stay. The facilities were excellent in every way, and it’s always nice to have access to a loaner car when you are long-range cruising.

My only regret is that I was only able to stay for one night. Beautiful grounds, well kept docks, a great mix of recreational and commercial boaters. Due to some mechanical issues, I was unable to make the 5pm close time and as a single, was hoping for some arrival assistance. The dock master stayed later (jeopardizing his son’s little league practice) to help me out. Can’t say enough about this place! Awesome!! 6 stars.

Dan was extremely helpful/confident in safely guiding us into the tricky harbor inlet/channel. He ensured our boat was secured and powered up b4 he left us to get settled. The facilities (including the Captain’s Lounge) were clean and beautifully decorated. They have 6 white rocking chairs on a wide front porch overlooking the harbor. The have several sets of front load washing machines/dryers which are free to guests. They have a courtesy car as well. The main street (Front Street) runs along a fabulous town is less than a half a mile away. There was a small wooden boat show during our visit. We wish we could of stayed longer. Wouldn’t miss this marina. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great staff - Dan the Dockmaster was very helpful and the facilities were terrific. Homer Smith is a regular stop for us and we always look forward to our stay.

We needed a marina to wait out a blow for a few days and the blow lasted for 5 days. Dan was/is exceptional! He accommodated us a few days at a time for 5 days. The marina is newer and in excellent condition - like new. As we arrived Dan told us how low to hang the fenders, and what line he wanted first - no chance for a miscommunication! After he helped us secure at the slip he provided a tour showing all of the amenities. If you need ICE this is the place, they have an ice house and it's free, as is the loaner van (which doesn't have dummy lights on), new and free laundry. Their Captain's lounge is very nice and well appointed. Fuel is reasonable and is not excessive (has multiple discounts). The physical marina is super, but what made our stay more enjoyable was Dan, his knowledge and his skills in getting us on and off the dock were exceptional.

Dockmaster was great and facility is nice. Beware of the wording of the cancelation policy. The 24 hour notice starts from the time you arrive. If you book more than one day, you cannot cancel any additional days, even if you try 24 hours before that day. Even if they fill your spot later, too bad.

This is a transient boaters dream marina. New floating docks, new fresh boaters lounge with free laundry. There is a courtesy vehicle with a generous 2 hour limit. The walk to downtown is an easy 10 mins.

This is one of the nicest marinas that we have stayed at doing the Loop. They have a state of the art Marina. New, clean floating docks, Clean private heads, courtesy car, lounge with TV and kitchen, waste oil disposal, free laundry with new large washers and dryers. I would recommend a stay!

We stayed two nights at Homer Smith Marina and found it to be pretty much perfect. Easy to access, friendly and responsive, and the entire facility appeared to be brand new with no expense spared. The showers were great, and while I didn’t use the free laundry I walked through and the machines were new and top of the line. We stopped there because of the recommendation by Bob423, which was spot on. We would definitely stay there again.

As always a lovely stay at Homer Smith - from the staff to the location, and now also the new facility, this is a friendly, happy, helpful and clean place! Beaufort is also a quant and welcoming town, with lots of things to do. The loaner car at Homers is a BIG help and much appreciated.

We enjoyed our stay at Homer Smiths Marina. Restrooms, Showers and Laundry were first class. Laundry machines were complimentary. The use of a complimentary car was a very nice touch. We would stay at Homer Smith’s again. The cancellation terms were a bit inflexible. As cruisers, our schedules are very weather dependent. I think a 24 hour notice should suffice for cancellation.

Wonderful facility, close to town. Loved the loaner car, free laundry, club room w/kitchen and friendly people, now if you could just get rid of that fish smell on C dock.😝

Wonderful facility that has only gotten better in the last year. New(er) docks, brand new Office, bathrooms, cruisers lounge, etc. Nice loaner van to provision. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. The new slips are nice and wide with long fingers which makes docking much easier. And then you have the town just 15 min walk away! Doesn’t get much better than Homer Smith!!

This is a fabulous marina! The staff is very friendly & helpful! The facilities are all brand new & kept nice and clean. This marina is within walking distance to beautiful downtown Beaufort, which is full of shops, bars & restaurants. We always make a stop at Homer Smith when traveling up & down the east coast.

We had a wonderful stay at Homer Smith! Awesome showers, 3 beautiful new washer/dryer sets - FREE, comfortable lounge with recliners, TV and FREE coffee and FREE ice! Staff was responsive and friendly and courtesy van was available for up to 2 hours at a time. Close proximity to town but away from the tourist crowds. We will definitely be back!

Stayed 2 nights in mid-July '22. The dockmaster Dan was very helpful and the facilities are the best that we have seen in 6 months of boat travel. Having 24 hr access to a great boaters lounge, showers, and restrooms and free laundry was great! We walked all over Beaufort, experienced several restaurants and the Saturday farmers market. Can't beat the Beaufort Diner for breakfast or Mezcalito for authentic Mexican food! We'd stay longer or come more often if we could. Don't miss it if you are in the area.

Very nice well run marina. Wifi was strong. Restrooms/showers clean and spacious. Floating docks in like new condition. Location was within walking distance of town and several restaurants. Free ice! Courtesy car! Ample dock carts for use to get stuff down to boat. Easy to access from ICW as long as you can get through the confusing day markers in Beaufort harbor. If there were 6 stars, they'd get that rating. Definitely will look to stay here again.

Told us our slip # well in advance, sent marina map and nav instructions, Dockmaster was great, new club house and new laundry machines AND a courtesy car!

Beautiful floating dock facility with a brand new aur conditioned clubhouse with lounge, free laundry, free ice, and a free courtesy car. Make sure to stay in the channel then keep the green markers near the docks to port - the basin itself is very shallow.

What a pleasant surprise of a marina! Beautiful new docks, new clubhouse opens next week, 2 free loaner cars, free laundry, close to town and a super helpful and informative dock master Dan! Our favorite marina we’ve stayed in! We highly recommend staying here and visiting this beautiful town.

We enjoyed our stay at this marina. Staff is friendly and helpful. Docks are floating and there are two courtesy cars (wonderful to get to stores and Post office). It’s a short walk to restaurants, Maritime Museum and gift shops. The NEW Marina Office is under construction ... when it’s done in a few weeks should be so Nice.

Great docks. Matt does a nice job. Like having 2 courtesy cars for provisioning and shopping. Easy walk to a really nice town with good restaurants and even a French Bakery. The dock water has a sulpher smell though.

Super friendly and very helpful. LOVE that they have a courtesy car for use - great for the run to the local grocery store for provisions. Free WiFi (and it's fast too!) and free laundry are also a plus. Only downside is there is just one shower/bath. But their building so it will be rectified soon!

First time at Homer Smith and it was a 5 star marine in my book. Clean clean clean! Beautiful docks and the bathroom ( only 1) but it was meticulously clean! We walked easily into town it was a Monday not much open but very fun spot on a lively night. Service was outstanding as well we had to change our arrival date due to weather and they went out of their way to help us and communicate on arrival day to make everything seamless as possible. Definitely recommend and plan on returning!

Easy in easy out! Great staff, can’t say enough about the staff. The bathroom is top notch clean. They have courtesy car too! The keys are left in the laundry area to take as you please. No current back there and only .5 walk to the Royal James. Thank you!

Staff was very helpful with mooring, getting gas, and things to do/places to go in town. Beaufort is a wonderful, quaint town. The only issues were that the gas pumps were very difficult to get to and directions to the Marina were not very clear.

Homer Smith's is an ok facility, physically, and it's in a good location. However, management's attitude about cancellations and refunds is oppressive, i.e. the manager, Matt, used a 48 hour notice period as justification to charge me for a day we did not use. When it was brought to his attention that Dockwa shows a 24 hour notice period for cancellations (a term with which we had complied), he ignored the fact and charged my card $102 anyway. Suffice to say, Homer Smith's refusal to resolve the issue fairly was unpleasant and we will not stop there again. As you peruse other sites, you will see other reviews which confirm new management’s somewhat questionable business practices.

Homer Smith is a good marina, physically, but their policy re: cancellations and refunds is oppressive and corrupt in that the manager, Matt, claims a 48 hour notice period to receive a full refund even though a 24 hour period is shown on Dockwa. This bogus position was used - wrongfully and aggressively- to force me to pay for a day I did not use. The non-resolution of this issue was unpleasant and we will not stay there again.

Helpful team when landing and connecting to pier. We made use of the loaner car to re-provision. Docks are in excellent shape. Easy to get fuel as well on the T head. Quiet marina in the evening, so you will get a good nights sleep.

Great people; great location - 4 blocks to downtown, 2 courtesy cars; FREE pumpout, ice, & laundry; lots of helpful liveaboards; Dan, dockmaster, is great and does canvas work & repairs; Barbour's Marine Supply has a large inventory with great prices & is about a mile away; Eastard Marine Supply has great prices on just about every SS screw, bolt, & nut possible and is a short drive away; and Beaufort is a great town with many good restaurants, bars, and shops. We loved our stay at Homer Smith's!

Great stay. Came in with 25 knot winds blowing right off the dock. Matt brought us in and handled the lines professionally so there was no problem. Everything here is almost new and the location is very well protected. The Main Street is a short 3 block walk through historic Beaufort. You bet we’ll come again.

The Homer Smith Marina docks are the best docks we’ve seen on our 3,000+ trip. The Marina raves about them on their website, deservedly so. Free laundry, 2 loaner cars available even during COVID, location a short walk from the lively town center & nice owner. The only aspect missing that we would have appreciated would have been a dockhand to assist in windy conditions upon arrival.

Wonderful people, docks in great shape and pretty new. They are building out their clubhouse and will be done soon. And, reasonable rates for it all. Definitely will be back.

The manager called to check on our arrival time and was waiting by the dock to help with the lines. Additional amenities not listed include a shower, wifi, free laundry and lounge.

Spent 2 nights at Homer Smith Docks in July 2020 during trip from Annapolis to Beaufort and back. Great location in Beaufort. We availed ourselves of complementary ice, bikes, laundry, and marina car. Car was essential as we had to restock galley and also had to get a new crank battery. Highly recommended as a convenient and friendly stop on ICW.

This was our first stay at Homer Smith but we've been to Beaufort many times. This recently renovated marina is fantastic and a great alternative to Beaufort Docks - easier to dock (no current), less expensive, and excellent staff. And now that the old bridge had been removed there's virtually no traffic and an easy walk to restaurants etc. Plus there's a great sunset view. Highly recommended.

Nice spot and great staff. Be careful on your approach to stay close to the docks. The green marker is too far to the left and we accidentally grounded as we approached the fuel dock.

Clean, convenient, helpful and friendly staff. Electric included in slip fee. Low price diesel ($1.56/gallon). No appreciable current, unlike Town Dock.

Matt did a good job getting us in to the marina - they have a well marked channel, just need to know where to look for it. If you have not been there before, be sure to ask. Nice facility, close to town.

We stopped here for a few days to let some weather pass, and we’re grateful to have discovered this gem of a marina. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was perfect for exploring downtown Beaufort.

Another great stay! Tony, Matt and the rest of the crew always provide great service- from docking to wifi (new OnSpot wifi) to the easily obtainable courtesy car. Easy walk to the Saturday market or downtown. We were on the new "D" dock this time in the protected corner spot D1 and were very happy. Easy in and out. I know we will return.

We really liked how quiet this marina was. Docks are in great shape, and the staff was very friendly. Free ice and a short walk into downtown Beaufort were a bonus.

Great docks and service

We stayed here because of good reviews and we'd never stayed here before, in our favorite town along the ICW. The floating docks were great, Clark the dockmaster was super-helpful, the laundry (free) and head/shower (only 1) were nice and clean. The reasons I gave 4 stars and not 5 were that the Wifi was intermittent at best, and we were docked next to a couple of working shrimp boats, and their crews were busy most of the night evidently getting ready for a trip. All in all, a nice marina in a great town.

We enjoyed the excellent docks and electrical power, terrific bath/shower, and the use of the courtesy vehicle for provisioning. Owner, Tony, was a very hospitable host.

Free (nice) loaner car, beautiful floating docks, good rates, good electric, free pumpout and very helpful and friendly folks. Really enjoyed our stay. Keep in mind that you will be sharing docks with working fishing boats. We didn't use onshore facilities (bathhouse, or free laundry).
