About

Approach

Carver Cove is located on the northern side of Vinalhaven. It's the first protected cove that you'll find on the Vinalhaven (south) side of Fox Island Thoroughfare as you enter the Thoroughfare from the east. If you're navigating between North Haven and Vinalhaven from the west (the Camden side of Penobscot Bay), you'll find Carver Cove just past the Seal Cove inlet on your right (south) in Vinalhaven. Carver Cove is protected from the prevailing Southwest breeze, making this natural cove a great location to anchor. It's also a muddy bottom, making your anchor holding excellent.

About the Area

Even though Carver Cove is technically in Vinalhaven, but the closest town is North Haven, which is a short dinghy ride from the anchorage. There is plenty of space in the cove, making it an ideal location to anchor even on busy summer weekends when you may find many boats anchored coming in from either side of Penobscot Bay.

All of the land around the cove is private, so it's not recommended to head ashore there, but North Haven is a great spot to bring your dog and explore the area. You'll find a pubic landing on the North Haven side where you can tie up at no charge, though the docks are pretty busy most of the year (the docks are not pulled in the winter time).
