Introduction:
The Commercial Boulevard Bascule Bridge is located at Mile 1059.0 on the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale. The bridge has a 15-foot closed vertical clearance with 90 feet of horizontal space at the center span and has a restricted opening schedule. November 1 through May 15, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. 6 p.m. the bridge opens on the hour, and at 20 and 40 minutes past the hour. Saturday, Sunday and Federal holidays, the bridge opens on the hour, and every 15 minutes thereafter.
Navigating the Bridge:
Keep an eye out for arriving and departing boat traffic from the numerous waterfront restaurants in the area. Sometimes an errant boater can lose track of what they are doing; especially during an opening. The bridge can be opened by horn signal (one long, one short) or by hailing the bridge tender on VHF Channel 09. (All bridges in the state of Florida must be hailed on VHF Channel 09.)
