The Harbormaster’s Department directs, coordinates, and is responsible for all navigation on the waterways of the town of Chatham and other areas as required or deemed necessary. The department ensures that all waterways and town owned waterfront facilities are used in a safe, environmentally friendly and lawful manner. It is the lead agency of the Town for maritime enforcement and public safety for the waterways of the Town of Chatham, and provides navigational assistance to the users of Chatham waterways and harbors. This is accomplished through applicable legal authority and public education.
Wonderful location on Nantucket Sound! The crew at the Harbormasters office was great! They gave us a couple of rides into town when they were headed in already. Shared watermelon on the porch, helped with local information. Chatham is a great little town and the CCRTA can take you anywhere on the Cape (summer months).
All done via app. Had mooring number when we arrived. Could not see mooring position on the Dockwa map, needs improvement. Great stay. Thanks
Had a great stay in Stage Harbor, Harbormaster very helpful. Only comments are that we stayed on mooring 12, was right up against fairway with lots of traffic not obeying the no wake signage, neighboring boat at mooring 13 did not have howser on mooring. which presented a challenge for him to moor the vessel.
I like to leave positive reviews, BUT, we made a reservation along with ten of our other yacht club members. We arrived at around 3pm. Contacted the harbor master by vhf. He asked me what mooring am I assigned. That is what he is supposed to advise me. He then directed AMITIE to head into harbor to pick up number 6 , a yellow and green mooring “can”. We watched the mooring numbers go up. We contacted him again but he did not respond. Finally, marine patrol, unrelated to harbor master, advised to follow him back away from the harbor. We followed for more than a mile towards the Chatham entrance to harbor and located #6. The mooring ball, not can, was the first mooring you pass when coming in the channel. It had NO line whatsoever to pick up, only a rusty thimble and no way to reach to run a line. Thankfully, the marine patrol (UNRELATED to harbor master) assisted to run a line down. Tying up to a rusty thimble in 20 knots of wind was considered unsafe for the night. We dropped of after an hour and came into the inner harbor and grabbed one of the many available moorings that had a proper line to pick up. After speaking to other sailors, we learned this has happened before and harbor master or assistant thereof was similarly unhelpful. Bottom line: we are very underwhelmed by the Chatham harbor master and very thankful the marine patrol was listening to our many attempts to obtain accurate information from the harbor master. Anyway, quite pathetic by harbor master office.
Stayed here over July 4th weekend. Well protected harbor and a great staff at the Harbormaster’s office. 1 mile walk to town and great beaches a dinghy ride to harbor entrance.
A lovely quiet harbor with gorgeous sunset views out to sea and surrounded by beautiful homes . An easy dinghy ride to town . Stout moorings , nicely spaced and a friendly and efficient Harbor master. We will be back!
