Designed as a waterfront retreat where boaters can connect, relax, and unwind, Safe Harbor Sandusky quietly sits on the shores of Lake Erie’s Sandusky Bay. Embracing its rich heritage as a sailing community, the marina boasts first-class amenities - including an in-ground heated pool and upscale bathhouses – combined with year-round services for an all-inclusive experience.
Beautiful pool and common area, bathrooms best we’ve seen, amazing gym….. this is a must stop! Trishia in the free shuttle service to town is wonderful!!!
Excellent service great property and amenities for the price!
Great team at SH Sandusky! They went out of their way to help us new boaters out!
It was fine. Pros and cons like every other place. Pros: nice clean bath house with lots of showers. Nice laundry room. Big pool. Staff were very nice to deal with up at office. Cons: No staff anywhere to help with docking etc. only staff is office folks. It’s a hike and half to go to office. Thank be day we headed to office, it was 90 + degrees out, super humid, office gal drove right by us in golf cart. After she passed I muttered to myself - no thanks, don’t need a ride, I’m good. She never even looked at us. That’s a serious lack of customer service. I’m finding with a lot of marines now that they never offer any info. I.e. do you need a pump out? Here’s where you go if you do, here’s where trash bins are, do you need info about the area? As a transient-that’s all useful info. However they’re sure to give you a brochure about safe harbor membership, annual slip rentals etc. not info I even need. Docks need some maintenance, upright boards pull right off with very little effort. Electric comes and goes. Overall it was fine, we’re low key so don’t need any attention but trying to be honest so the marina can improve, wouldn’t take much.
This October (2021) will be the end of our first season docking at Safe Harbor Sandusky, we absolutely love it here. The administrative staff and dock hands all have been great to work with. The shower facility is always clean as is the pool. The new patio and fire pit area is a great place to enjoy a relaxing evening if you are not out on the lake. We were also told prior to docking with SHM that we would be fighting coal dust from the near by coal dock. Not once this year did we ever have the black dust on our boat. If you are looking for new home for your boat this IS the place to be!
A quiet marina located at the west end Sandusky has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The unmarked approach to its entrance is generally 10ft water depth. Restrooms are clean and a grade better than most marina facilities. WIFI is excellent and security is controlled via one gate to the marina which requires a VOB from the office. With fairways exceeding 50ft, it has floating wood piers with 30/50 amp, and water services. Fuel (gas only), pumpout, and dock assistance is available; in advance call marina on channel 69. Walking west about 8 minutes from the marina is a bar-grille, an additional 10 minutes is the C Toft Ice Cream Parlor. Walking east about 20 minutes is Cobbs burger and ice cream, Pizza House, and a coin-operated/drop-off laundry. The latter is an alternative to the free marinas washing and dryer machines adjacent to the restrooms. Two to three mile walk east from the marina is downtown Sandusky.
Great place, clean facilities, friendly employees, will come back.
Definitely the nicest marina bathhouses I’ve been to. Everyone was very nice. We arrived in heavy wind conditions. Everyone we passed on our way down the pier asked what slip we were headed to and offered to help grab lines. Much appreciated! We often pay more per foot for less.
Marina dockage old but maintained. There is a fuel dock but never saw it manned in the three days we were there. No dock staff to help with lines. Marina office about half mile from transient dock and unreachable except by phone. There is free laundry, clean bathrooms and showers, and a pool. There are no services within bicycle or walking distance. None. Nearby coal dock worked every night we were there.
Great facility, within a vigorous walk range of wonderful ice cream at Toft’s. OK, I had never heard of it either but it is quite good. Back to the marina, the only drawback was the sound of distant trains running frequently. (Minor inconvenience) People on dock were very welcoming and friendly.
