About

Snead Island Boat Works offers a complete line of services for your yacht and rents slips and dry storage space. Services include bottom paint, electrical, mechanical, rigging, plumbing, fiberglass, carpentry and haul-out services.

Approach

Snead Island Boat Works is located near the mouth of the Manatee River. To get your boat here by water from Tampa Bay or the ICW, enter the Manatee River Channel by Manatee River Light 2, and continue along the channel until red marker #14 - we are located due north of that marker. The basin entrance is just east of the large shed with our name on it. For boats with a deeper draft, keep to the left when entering the basin.

Snead Island Boat Works Inc continues to profit from the reputation the old manager, Steve Austin, earned them. When you bring your boat to Snead Island Boat Works there is little chance the manager, Bill, will conduct quality control. He often relies solely upon the information given to him by employees. If you are looking for him, you can usually find him operating the travel lift, instead of checking to make sure your boat is being taken care of. The son in law, Talmadge Mathews knows very little about boats, and even less about management. Gary Alderman, while he was once the backbone of Snead Island Boat Works, has little involvement in the day to day operations of his company. Gary Alderman will usually "fix" the wrong doings at the yard on the tail end, by adjusting the billing. For the sixty to ninety dollars an hour you will spend at Snead Island Boat Works, you are much better off taking your boat elsewhere. You have been warned. To all future Island Packet Yachts 'Chainplate' and 'Tank' job owners, be sure you personally remove your cushions. To all past Island Packet 'Chainplate' and 'Tank' job owners, you might get itchy when you sit on your cushions because they were not removed before fiberglass was ground (Loafers Glory, Wanderlust, among many others).
