We had a wonderful stay the service was excellent and very steady landing
Clean. Helpful. Location. Nice facility. Friendly. I would come back here anytime. Five Stars!!
Great people, great service. This is a wonderful launch and starting place for our Casco Bay boating trip. Thank you South Port Marina!
Very friendly, Marina staff, and decent facilities. I felt the service department was wildly overpriced. They charge $35 per foot for a short haul. This is more than double than anywhere else I’ve ever been on the East Coast, including a marina right across the river. When I inquired why the cost was so high, they explained that’s what they charge. I told them that we were going to go across the river and they didn’t care. It’s their business, and they can charge what they like, but I felt like they gave up business and a future customer.
Great staff and close to everything needed.
South Port Marine is a very easily accessible and well-protected marina. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. There are also a number of restaurants and two major grocery stores within walking distance. It is also a short ride (or a longish walk) to the Portland waterfront for a variety of restaurants and shops.
All of the marina facilities are neat and very clean. The staff was very nice and helpful. It has a wee stocked ships store and parts department. Also, drinks, ice cream and snacks are offered for sale. There is an excellent Mexican restaurant just a couple of blocks away, and there is a brewery immediately across the street from the marina, a Hannafords market is about 0.3 miles away. The location is preferable to staying in Portland, and it is a short ride from downtown Portland. We stayed here five years ago, and returned to find it is still a great place to stay.
We appreciate the Marina accommodating us when we had to leave early due to our concern about the weather. This is a narrow channel to the marina so pay attention to the markers and watch the tide. Thank you for your hospitality.
Nice marina, well taken care of. Great rates.
Nice stop over. Near stores for provisions. Short dinghy ride to city and restaurant
South Port Marine has been so accomodating - and the other boaters there are super kind. It's a great place!!!
Overall it is a nice marina but we had a negative experience. First, we were on the T head and rolled more than I expected. Second, when I asked about shore power I was pointed to the closest pedestal by Mandy the dock manager. I went to hook up and both 50amps were occupied by a big Hatteras. Mandy had left so I notified the office and they said they would let Mandy know. Nothing happened so I found another pedestal I could reach by moving my boat back on the dock myself. Before arriving I had a small package of generator parts mailed to the Marina and I forgot to call them to look for it. When Mandy was helping us dock, before I even asked about the package, she let us know that we should have called about it. I sincerely apologized and handed her a small tip. When I went to check in, Mandy handed me my package and charged me $10 for not calling. That’s just bad PR.
Great view of Portland from the water. Service staff friendly and welcoming.
We had a great stay at South Port Marine! The dockmaster Mandy and her team were very welcoming, the facilities were clean, and it was easy to get in and out of - both for launching our boat and heading out to sail. The location is great too, with plenty of good food and provisioning options within walking distance, and a small park nearby that’s perfect for letting dogs (and kids) stretch their legs. We will definitely return!
It’s a great place to tuck in, pay attention to depth going in. We have a 6.5 draft & we got in😊
Beware strict cancellation policy Stayed twice in September. Pros: Very nice people. Well stocked parts department. Nice protected docks without the constant roll across the harbor at DiMillo’s. Couple of good clean showers and laundry. Easy walk to two grocery stores and two auto parts stores. Easy rideshare over to Portland’s infinite restaurants. Take the fire truck tour to get overview of the city. Cons: Like most places these days staff is short so we came in twice without dockhand assistance (not a huge deal though). They told us both times to bow in but our power is on the stern so we requested and were okayed to change (don’t be afraid to ask for what you need). The biggest issue, a strict cancellation policy. I’m a fan of Dockwa. Seems to work quite well and so far as we have traveled 2,000 miles marinas have been flexible with changing plans. Not so South Port. I made a reservation on 9/11 for two nights starting 9/17. I then requested cancelation 17 hours later. I was offered a credit to use the nights another time with a one-year limit. I will be looking at those cancellation policies much closer going forward.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Gas grill and picnic tables by the Marina office in a nice shaded area is perfect for an evening BBQ.
Shhh! Can you keep this Marina a secret. Tucked away in a corner of South Portland this is a gem. Okay it’s s little shallow at low tide but we made it in with 4.5 foot draft. And yes, some of the docks are showing their age but they go out of there way to accommodate you. Easy walk to the market and to the other side of the harbor. Sea you soon!
Friendly and helpful staff. Well kept facilities and protected from the river traffic. Dowtown Portland is only a walk over the Casco Bay Bridge.
We love South Port Marine! The facilities and the staff are amazing. This was not our first stay at South Port but each time we’ve been impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities and the friendly professionalism of the staff. On the last day of our stay our boat ending up sinking at the dock when we were away overnight and we will never forget the way our little crisis was handled by the staff at South Port. A tragedy for us but overall a great experience and we will be back!
I called SouthPort late on a Saturday afternoon in April to book a transient slip at the last minute, and the girl that answered the phone was phenomenal. Told me to book it on DockWa, called me back with the slip assignment and left a packet of info for us, and the facilities were great. Amazing customer service!
Bathrooms and laundry rooms were very nice. I didn’t need anything, but the ship store was well stocked. Short walk to restaurants and grocery.
Everything was great! Nice slip, clean bathrooms with hot showers. Mandy was very nice and accommodating!
In the heart of Southport… Very well managed and clean… Professional and courteous…Upon entrance to the channel you go through the two tall pilings and follow the red and green boueys closely…No real current to be concerned about for docking.
This is an excellent marina. It is well protected from the main part of the harbor, power was perfect at 120/240 and the staff is outstanding. They are a full service marina so have a good parts department and have all the common need items in their store. I lost my 17mm socket and of course needed one to make a repair, asked the service manager who was more than happy to lend one to me. Bathrooms rooms and laundry are excellent. Quick Uber ride to Old Port.
Great location and good vibe. Hannaford's in walking distance. Nice neighborhood. The Dock Master and her mates were friendly and helpful. Docks being replaced, ours was in very good condition. Nice laundry facility. Beware the quarter shortage of 2021. Did not use the showers, but they were clean looking. We draft 6 feet and never saw less than 11 at half tide on entrance. Will definitely plan a stop back.
Location! Location! Location! Perfect for visiting the Portland, Maine area. A mile and a quarter to the Old Port - easily walkable over the Casco Bay Bridge. Two miles in the opposite direction and you're in Cape Elizabeth - home of the Portland Head Light. The marina is in the heart of Knightville - a neighborhood of So. Portland - with grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, and 2 breweries (one right across the street from the marina!). The Eastern Trail runs right through Knightville for amazing biking, walking, jogging to the Casco Bay side of So. Portland to visit two lighthouses and Fort Preble. Willard Beach is right there, too. Mandi and the staff at South Port Marine are great and very accommodating. The laundry and bathroom facilities are very nice and clean. There are picnic tables and shade trees - all very well groomed and pretty - looking over the marina. A two-thumbs up for us!
Great accommodations and service. Very protected Marina. Depending on what you draw you may to enter/exit on high tide.
Phenomenal staff! Very attentive, great with dogs and kids. Very sheltered place to ride out some weather
Well protected location with good facilities, helpful staff and a well supplied store.
We had secured/paid for a reservation to rent a boat for the day as a milestone b-day gift. We arrived to find out our boat (the only rental they have) had been double booked and left the harbor as we were waiting to be helped. We were told there was "nothing they could do" and offered no suggestions about where else to rent spur of the moment. We finally found one on our own which cost $125 more for the day since it was a bigger boat and the only one available. We were refunded our deposit and the staff communicated with the owner who provided no defined compensation for their error. Staff thought a replacement day at no charge would be doable, but we had to leave to get to our replacement boat before it could be resolved so we wouldn't lose anymore time on the water. Called Skip the owner 5 days later who now only offered a "discounted rate" for another rental and refused to either pay the difference for the replacement rental, or a free rental on another day. Said the event was "unfortunate" and only apologized when he was reminded that he never actually apologized. Very poor customer service, very poor attitude from the owner. We were looking forward to a great day and a marina we would use again since we just moved to the area. This is clearly not the marina.
Nice clean facilities and friendly locals and staff. We draw 6.5’ so had to wait for the tide to come in a bit to leave. Other than that, easy Uber downtown and the local Legion Square market is a great little place for basic provisions.
Excellent customer service. Nice restrooms and showers. Laundry available. Walkable to grocery store.
Awesome. Loved the marina. We launched our sailboat here for the weekend. The staff was kind and helpful and the facilities were great. We met some great folks in other slips who were also kind and friendly. The neighborhood is also great with plenty of options for restaurants, a brewery, tacos, and two grocery stores within a short walk.
South Port Marine is hands-down the best protected marina in the Portland, ME area. We have had the pleasure of renting transient slip space at South Port Marine each summer for the last ten years and every experience has been positive. The service/parts department, dock-hands, and office staff are always friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. The seasonal and live-aboard boaters in adjacent slips have always been personable and welcoming to us and our children. The facilities are very clean and easily accessible. There is a great restaurant next door and additional food/beverage options within walking distance. The marina is conveniently located with an easy well-marked approach and a large gas-dock. All of the slips are extremely well protected offering calm waters and most slips offer a nice view of the Portland skyline. It’s a great place to be on a warm summer night in Maine.
I very much enjoyed my stay at South Port Marine. The staff was very friendly, courteous, and helpful. The marina is ideal for exploring the Portland area with city bus transportation nearby. The bathroom/shower facilities were clean and modern. Overall, I highly recommend South Port Marine for your stay on the water in the Portland area.
Very friendly and helpful. Fully stocked chandlery and close to grocery and hardware store.
This is a very nice marina with good facilities and friendly staff. Brewery is a block away and grocery store 10 minute walk. Fuel dock is easy to access and their is a fairly well stocked marine store on site.
Staff took good care of us. There is a nice restaurant just outside of the marina which was convenient. Facilities are acceptable. Quiet spot ... very protected waters. This is generally a 4 star marina but I gave them 5 because the value is outstanding. About half the cost as compared to Dimillos. Would stay here again for sure.
Our fist time at this marina and we will return. Excellent dock and boatyard staff - we took the opportunity to have the oil and filters changed. Very professional and careful mechanic. Restaurant on site was better than expected and we enjoyed several dinners. Also a great location with numerous shops in the neighborhood.
This is a really pleasant marina with lots of staff who make everything run smoothly. Our stay was simply wonderful. One note of caution, the water gets pretty thin out of he dredged area at low tide so follow the channel markers carefully.
Always nice people, and a very good facility, clean showers, nice laundry, good parts and marine store. Close to grocery store.
