a Pleasant, sheltered harbour on Scotlands east coast. Often missed by people sailing up the east coast as it requires boats to turn west up the Tay estuary towards Dundee. Once past the bar, the estuary is sheltered from any swell from the North Sea. Marina is owned and operated by Tayport Harbour Trust, a charitable body whose aims are to maintain and encourage use of the harbour. THT has installed 3 pontoons with around 80 berths. A further 20 berths are available on the walls. Further improvements planned as funds permit. All berths are taken, though often cruising visitors can be accomodated if permanent berthers are on the hard for repairs or off cruising themselves. Visitors are also accomodated on wall berths. The Trust comprises the berthers and there are no employees, all work being undertaken by volunteers. Visitor berths are charged as follows (as at Jan 2011) per night - Under 25' £8; 25'-35' £10; over 35' £12. reductions for longer periods. Water and electricity on the outer wall. None on the pontoons at the moment. No showers though local caravan park (800 yds)allows use of showers. Unisex portaloo on the outer wall. The welcome is friendly and there are supermarkets and shops, and pubs doing bar meals nearby. Dundee a short bus ride away. The inner estuary can be cruised right up to Perth. Harbour and entrance channel recently dredged to approximately 0.5 below chart datum. A little known haven well worth a visit.
