In the heart of Salem, Pickering Wharf Marina is located adjacent to the hotel and can accommodate sail boats and power boats up to 120 feet for both summer and winter (protected) dockage. Pickering Wharf Marina is situated behind the Derby Wharf breakwater, so no matter what the weather the seas are calm. The only service we provide is fun. So book a weekend for a great time. For day trips contact the marina on ch.9 or call (978)210-4584. Weekends are $4.50 per foot a night (Fri. or Sat.).
Very Friendly and helpful people, great atmosphere on Haloween!
Easy in, easy out. Right in the heart of Halloween festivities.
We have been visiting Pickering Wharf for years - Mike the dockmaster makes the difference! Simply great !
We had a great time for an overnight here. The anchorage is right in the heart of Salem, the water is extremely well-protected and although there is a lot of night-time activity surrounding the location, it was quiet by 10. Mike, the dockmaster, was easy to reach and responded promptly. The docks are in *excellent* shape. Approach is not complicated and we had plenty of room to maneuver our 41' boat in and out. The marina is super close to downtown, but there are plenty of eating and drinking options within 100 yds. I did read the comments about the bathrooms and honestly, although they were the part of the facility which needs the most attention (because not much else does), they were perfectly acceptable. The bath/laundry is all behind a common door (with key-code access only). There are 3 seperate toilets and 2 showers, each with a door that locks (either a push-button or a barrel latch). The area was pretty clean. For sure, I've been to marinas where I just preferred to shower on the boat, but this wasn't even close. I was perfectly happy with them.
Dock master and staff were awesome!
Dick welcomed us at the dock and was helpful and kind. The second day the dock person was condescending and disrespectful. The location of our slip was at the end of the marina and it wasn’t busy so it was easy to get in and out. Keep to the middle of the channel. Our sailboat was fine getting though during low tide with 4’ 3” draft. The liquor store ran out of ice but you can get it at the gas station. It would be nice of the marina had ice. The bathrooms and showers look gross. The breakfast places don’t open until 8:00. But some cafes are open at 7:00. The icream store closes at 9. Hours may be different on the weekend.
Convenient location minutes from downtown, restaurants and sights like house of seven gables. Bathrooms are of community camping quality, fair. Two Individual toilets with locking door, and two shower stalls with locking door, sliding latch. Overall Quiet, tranquil. Would stay again
Great spot! Mike was very helpful with a faulty dock power connection. New posts are nice looking, but very touchy GFCI’s. Mike helped with a 50’ 50A cord to an original power post. Great weekend!
Great spot. Very protected. Close walk to everything
Great location with plenty of shops and restaurants. The Marina was clean and quiet. The person who ran the place made is super easy for us and made sure we had everything we needed. The Marianas was located where there was very little movement which made it extra comfortable while sleeping on board.
Great protected downtown location, nice floating docks and we enjoyed the Dockmaster but the showers were awful. Dirty and buggy.
Great location. Nice floating docks. Bathroom shower area is filthy.
Great location, steps from town. Dick was very helpful in helping to tie up the boat, linear dock with a side tie up down a long and narrow channel. Not picturesque but a very convenient location close to everything. Would definitely stay here again
Nice marina, you can walk to so many things in town. Highly recommend.
Dockmaster Mike was very helpful. What a great little hidden gem.
We had a great stay!
Mike the dockmaster was very helpful and pleasant. \nHad a great time
Love everything about Pickering - except the bathrooms. They could use some updating. Mike is wonderful.
From the moment that we contacted the Dockmaster, Mike, he was extremely accommodating to find a spot for us 3 days sooner than planned. From that point on, everything was great to include its proximity to great restaurants and nightlife just a few steps away. We look forward to many more visits to Pickering Wharff to visit our new grand daughter.
Well located marina, close to downtown Salem. Mike was extremely helpful. Facilities need some TLC. Best to approach or leave at mid-tide as depths at low water may be challenging for boats with drafts greater than 5 feet.
No Wi-Fi. Restrooms were not good. Common showers with no locks on doors for privacy. Should not be mixed with laundry.
Great stay! Great Town with lots to explore! Mike at the marina was welcoming and helpful!
Beautiful marina. Excellent staff. Only minor complaint. The bathroom. Reds some TLC (staff is working on it)
We booked last minute and everyone at Pickering Wharf was able to accomodate. Additionally, the entire stay, the dockmaster was very responsive, calling back for several needs including a spare ship to shore line until we had our new one available! Visit Picker Wharf!
Very pleasant stay. Gated marina with great location to dining, shopping or just walking the waterfront. 2-hour parking for your guests right out front or there is a garage down the road. Very helpful staff.
Loved this marina! The owner was really nice and helpful! Close to all the sites! Great restaurants and shops within walking distance. Clean laundry and restroom facilities. They have a beer garden at the end of the dock that has live entertainment on certain nights! The marina is well protected! Highly recommend l!
We had a great time at Pickering Wharf in Salem! Mike the dockmaster was friendly and helpful and was waiting to grab our lines and show us to our slip. We enjoyed great people-watching and a fabulous meal at nearby Sea Level, where we could sit at the bar and look out at our boat. Security was good with gate codes. There is a lot to see and do in Salem and it's perfect for a weekend getaway. We will definitely go there again.
HORRIBLE experience. We reserved a slip and could not make it due to extremely rough seas. Called the dock phone and the man advised I call the dock master and try to reschedule our stay. When I talked to the dock master he was extremely rude and said there was nothing he could do. It appears he would have rather we risked our safety than accommodate a request to credit a different night. We will not be returning.
Great slip downtown and great hospitality from Mike
Great place in the heart of Salem- lots of activity and great restaurants (Finz) yet quiet at night. Very protected and docks in great shape. Dockmaster, Mike, was great as well. Word of caution (and why not 5 stars), restroom/shower facilities are atrocious! First off, it’s unisex so minimal privacy. Filthy and obviously never updated, they were not cleaned or supplied all weekend- bring your own TP and to avoid unspeakable communicable disease plan to shower on your boat!
Love the dock master. Great guy. He makes that place work!
Fun spot, right next to everything. Will definitely come again.
This is a very secure and well protected marina. It is close to fine restaurants and museums. Great stay! Dockmaster Mike is very attentive and helpful.
Dock Master was extremely helpful and accommodating. Gave use a great spot for our stay and made sure we had everything we needed. Great location with lots to do and restaraunts. Would stay there again. Thanks Mike.
Bathrooms and showers very dirty. No ice. Little attention.
Great town to visit. Great location. Mike took good care of us!
Amazing. Great location and great staff! Can’t wait to go back !!!! Perfect! Diane and Phil “Born Free” Boston
Mike is a fabulous dock master! He helped us tie up when we arrived and told us about the area for restaurants and other information. He was very pleasant and fun during our stay! Mike also helped us out of our dock space upon departure! Thank you, Ann and Brendan
The marina was well taken care of and the dockmaster Mike was very helpful getting the boat in and out. Definitely come back again.
Always a great stop on the scenic north shore coast! Excellent service by the dock master Mike, he really makes the difference at this marina. Highly recommend for location to restaurants and shopping and just an overall great experience.
Great Stay. Dockmaster was very accomodating, assisted with tie up. Quiet docks.
We have stayed here before and always enjoy Mike and the Pickering Wharf area. A bonus for cruisers is the convenience of the commuter rail which can take you to Boston, or to Rockport or Newburyport -all worth a visit. Mike had to set a record for the quickest Dockwa confirmation-less than five minutes! Outstanding👍
Clean and orderly marina, dead quiet at night despite being right in downtown Salem. The Finz restaurant just a few steps away from your slip is excellent and provides ample outdoor seating. Walk 10-15 to all the historical attractions and fun shops in town.
Great location. Dock hands were not friendly and the bathrooms were extremely difficult to find and were filthy.
pickering wharf has been a pleasure! the dockmaster has helped me tremendously with my boat. best marina ever!
Great spot! Very Accomodating
Great stay. Very convenient to shopping and historic sites
I very much enjoyed the communication received from this marina. The marina sent an SMS with instructions to where I would be spending the night. Close to the heart of Salem, walkable to restaurants and provisions. The laundry/bathroom area was serviceable, not remarkable. The 30amp power couldn't provide 30amps (I was drawing 3200W and the breaker would blow within a few minutes). The pontoons could have used more regular scat-removal. But it was a good location, good/friendly service. I'd visit again.
Very nice place. Good docks, great location. Mike the dock master was very helpful. Great stay !
Great location. Staff was nice enough. The bathrooms were horrendous. Just a little cleaning would go a long way.
The bathroom facilities are not very clean, had no soap to wash your hands and are tiny. I have closets in my house bigger then the bathroom/ shower/ laundry there . Besides that Salem is a great town with a feel of really being away considering it was only 25 miles away by boat ( about an hour ) .
Great location, great staff. Will definitely return next time we are in the area.
Very well protected & quiet marina, at least while the restaurant is closed for renovations. Salem is supremely walkable. No problems with electric & water. Will definitely return.
Dock hand didn’t respond to radio hailing on CH 9; reached finally by cellphone. Dockhand not available to assist in docking. Dockhand was unaware of our Dockwa reservation until he made a call. One restroom out of order; no toilet paper in second bathroom. Bathrooms not clean. The provided WiFi access code did not work. Convenient location with good restaurant nearby. Not enough of a reason to go back. We had stayed in prior years and had significantly better experience. Our recommendation is to choose Brewers Hawthorne marina nearby.
Although the location is great It is one of the dirtiest facilities I know.. Baths and showers are filthy
On the plus side, it is centrally located, the docks were good and they had reasonable wifi. Pretty much everything else was a minus: dock hands who could generously be described as useless, horrible bath rooms/showers, no marina information, no one seemed to care much.
