Escape to an area where sailing re-awakens your senses. Feel the southerly breezes that will fill your sails and your day with experiences that make you feel vital and alive. Experience fishing in an ocean filled with snappers, blues, bass, and fluke. Enjoy a swim in the pool or sit in the shade and read a book. It’s all right here in Sheepshead Bay, at Miramar Yacht Club. Visit us, tour our club and meet our members.
We were formed to promote sailing and other forms of boating and we do so with gusto. Miramar Members are an eclectic bunch. We come from various places in New York City and the metropolitan New York area. We are from varied backgrounds and occupations. Most of us are sail boaters, some are power boaters. We are racers, day sailors and cruisers; and some of us are paddlers of various persuasions. We are fisherman and we are “feasters” – we love to barbecue, eat, and a good party.
Sun sparkling on the waves, a breeze in your sails, and an ocean full of fish ready to bite. Miramar Yacht Club specializes in facilitating these kinds of perfect days on the water, for which the club maintains a fleet of well maintained sail boats perfect for a range of sailors, from experienced to beginner. Once you return to the dock, spend a few hours relaxing by the pool or reading a book in the shade.
David and all the people at the yacht club were very friendly. They make us feel like a member of the yacht club. The club is 15 min walk from the Subway.
Very nice and affordable Yacht Club with helpfull members. We stayed here for 4 nights to visit the area. Subway station at only 20 minutes.
Not enough stars to rate this Club!! We picked up a ball on short notice (we were too big for the docks) and could not have been more pleased with the warm reception from the Club. The commodore himself, along with two other members, stopped their task of moving a boat through the yard and met us on the dock to help tie up for check in. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful; we felt like family and kinda hated to leave so we stayed an extra night. There is launch service included, which runs on demand between the mooring field and the docks. Showers are very clean; sailors lounge is roomy & comfortably furnished. Nothing fancy here but everything you need. Only disadvantage is that the subway station is about a mile away. Not a problem for us since we have bikes and there’s a well defined bike lane plus we like to walk the neighborhoods. I mention this as it may be an issue for those w mobility concerns. Looking forward to returning in the fall.
Just awful. Arrived 5:30 pm. Led me to mooring. Single word mumbled answers on the VHF. After going to mooring I asked when launch would end, and was told 445. Inflated a dinghy and went to shore. I asked the guy questions and he walked away while I was talking to him. I asked him what time the bathroom closed and he said 8 PM. I asked him about a key and he walked away and told me there would be no facilities for us after 8 PM. It was probably a single incident due to a bad employee, as I am sure that the yacht club is populated by generally nice and gracious people. However, this was a terrible experience. given that we did not receive any launch and we did not receive use of any facilities, it is questionable that we received the services that were advertised on Dockwa. We could have just dropped an anchor for free. Obviously, I am not amused.
David and everyone at the Miramar Yacht Club are amazing. Easily the warmest welcome we've received since we departed Maine and started cruising south. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone passing through NYC. Their Ensign fleet races on Wednesdays and there's fireworks off Coney Island on Fridays all summer. Check out Roll N Roaster for good food right up the street. As others have said, be sure to check the tides if you draw more than 4 feet. It's quite shallow around Green Buoy #7.
Very nice place to take a mooring. Just some trouble with the launch service. Launch does not run until 9:00 am on Sunday.
It was such a pleasure to stay in Miramar Yacht Club. David is a nice man, always available to help whenever needed. All the people in the Yacht Club were nice and helpful. We felt like home there. The tender service, always available, is really easy and useful.
The staff was great, the price can’t be beat. The shoaling in the channel is real, I arrived at low tide and followed a big charter fishing boat in. No problem.
The weather turned foggy and wet, so we were socked in for a 36 hours. Miramar ended up being our home base for two nights rather than just one. Honestly, these are the nicest, friendliest fellow boaters I've met in all my travels. Everyone is super outgoing and I've lost count of the number of people who just come up to me and introduced themselves. Moorings here are a bargain, especially compared to anywhere else this close to New York, but there is as much expertise and available help here as any of the most expensive transient slips in the area.
A simple overnight but Tom rolled out the red carpet. Best option near/in NYC.
Tight mooring field. Well protected. Charter fishing boats wake through the channel all day and evening.
What an amazing stay at Miramar Yacht Club. True corinthian sailors. As we pulled in, we hailed the club, and the launch immediately met us and escorted us to our mooring ball. A couple of members sailed by and welcomed us. Every time we walked into the clubhouse, members offered us advice/support, and they invited us to their Labor Day party. Kids had a blast doing activities with members’ kids. A great bunch of people. Mooring was well protected and quiet. Thank you MYC members, and we’ll be back!
Stay best summed up by my wife’s comment on our trip home after we left. “I wish we had a sailing club near us that had people like that”. I agreed. What a warm friendly membership who we enjoyed meeting and sharing a beverage with. In addition, their local knowledge was very helpful. We look forward to staying here again.
What a great place! Huge value for a NYC location. It's a no frills club that makes you feel like part of the family. The harbor provides a safe anchorage. The management is super helpful, flexible, and they'll share what's in the fridge. Would highly recommend.
Easy launch service. You use their lines on mooring balls and ours was crusted with barnacles and slime. Facilities were adequate.
Very friendly people and a good sheltered area. We will add it to our “good stopover” list.
Friendly, helpful staff and comfortable facilities.
Good facilities, launch service, and mooring setup. Very busy harbor with constant wakes.
Easy in, Easy out. Close to stores and restaurants. Would have liked the restrooms open in the morning for freshening up.
Friendly club, mooring convenient and secure, launch service fine. Club's pool (if you care) is shared with a neighboring apartment building. Facilities could use a face-lift, but the showers were a heck of a lot better than the one on board!
