Introduction:

The city of Pensacola is located on the far western end of the Florida Panhandle about 19 miles east of the Florida/Alabama state line, which crosses the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at Perdido Key. Home to one of the largest Naval bases in the United States, Pensacola is not only home to numerous Naval ships and related warfare bases, but also to the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels.

Ashore in Pensacola are many attractions for the visiting boater, including museums, shopping, restaurants and many additional opportunities for provisioning. Pensacola is also packed with marinas and other marine services, and a visiting boater will have no problem finding services for repair, fuel or for slips tying to tie up to for the night.

Navigating the Water:

Use NOAA Charts 11378, 11382, 11383 and 11384.

The image above shows Bayou Chico, which breaks off Pensacola Bay six miles north of Sherman Inlet. In addition to Bayou Chico, there are additional facilities for cruiser located on Bayou Texter, Bayou Grande and Escambia Bay farther north. For detailed marina information and descriptions, browse our detailed marina listings for the area.

The majority of Pensacolas facilities are located up these protected bayous, and are normally reached from the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway north of Mile Marker 185. Offshore boats appraoching from the Gulf of Mexico must navigate Sherman Inlet, which is deep, wide and easy to navigate during most weather conditions.
