Our first time here at Herrington North after many visits to the south marina. We absolutely loved it. Beautiful landscaping, long paver path through the marina and gardens, lots of delightful seating areas throughout including chair swings, fire pits, rattan sectionals. Our three little dogs loved the fenced in dog park and all the green space. The pool is great. Sparkling, modern bathrooms, nicest we have ever seen at a marina. We used the small but well equipped fitness center. They have bikes but we bring our own and I could ride into the town of Deale which was close. There is a great seafood restaurant onsite we ate at one night and even a West Marine! How great is that. Lastly, we discovered a quaint little historic village on the grounds with several restored old buildings and a nice lady from the local historic society who gives tours only on Sundays. We were happy to get a slip on short notice and they gave us very clear directions where the slip was in the marina and the dockhands helped us in expertly. The whole experience was just about the best we have had in many years and we hope to come back soon. If we lived on the western side of the bay, we would make this our home marina.
We came here on the recommendation of friends last week. Dockhand was very nice and helpful. We were at the end of D dock near the T head with a lovely view. The grounds are landscaped beautifully but a little hard to take a long walk with our dogs as areas are separated by parking lots. We were well aware this was a working marina ( as is our home marina) so not too surprised by this. My only issue was that there was a catamaran on the hard near the end of our dock being worked on and was covered in plastic which blocked the path from our dock to the grassy areas and the bath house so we had to walk right past the travel lift which usually had a boat in the sling being power washed which was very messy. That was just bad planning on the part of the workers but it did taint our experience a bit. Pool is nice, bakery great and we did make use of the fitness center which is small but well equipped and well air conditioned. We plan to come back again and hopefully not run into the issue of the path being blocked.
Update August 17, 2024 Temporary problem due to dredging of the channel. It is very LOUD if you are on A dock as we were or on the beach pier as our friends were. We all wish we had been warned about the noise. Our boat was actually vibrating all day from the dredger which runs from 7 AM to 6 PM. It was awful. We actually had to move slips on our second day to D dock which was quiet. This is still one of our very favorite marinas and we stay here 3-4 times a year but will not be back till the dredging is done which I am told could be another 4 weeks. Otherwise, the marina was fantastic with beautiful landscaping, eco-trail to walk our dogs, pool with morning water aerobics, sparkling clean bath houses, friendly staff and our favorite Chesapeake Deli across the street.
First time here after having stayed at two other marinas in Solomons in the past. This is our favorite and we will definitely be back. Docks are older but quite serviceable. We had a nice T dock near the pool next to our friends who were traveling with us. Restrooms are sparkling clean day and night. Pool is nice but could use a little more shade, maybe some of those big overhead shade sails? We have two small dogs and there was enough grassy areas to walk them. They also like to take long walks and the surrounding neighborhood was really nice for that. Some marinas do not have much around them. There are a few pavilions with tables you can eat at and a few picnic tables under trees. Gas grills would be a perfect addition like other local Safe Harbor marinas have. Easy walk into town for ice cream and restaurants. Marina also has a shuttle to the local grocery store which is a great idea! Dockhands were knowledgeable and nice. Overall a great experience and we will be back later this summer!
FIRST REVIEW July 2018: We have been talking about coming here for years and seem to go everywhere else in the area but Oxford. Finally made it on July 7&8 with three other boats in our group. We absolutely loved the town of Oxford. This marina is in a perfect location and is well maintained. We stayed at the boatyard side which we liked as it was quieter on Sat night. The amenities which are mostly on the other side including fabulous bathrooms and pool and gas grills were nice and only a very short walk. Could use more bathrooms as there was a line Sat night. When the boatyard work resumed Mon morning it was loud and I'm not sure I would enjoy this side during the week but we were leaving anyway. Capsize restaurant and the famous ice cream store are right there. We biked and walked all over town and truly enjoyed it. Plan to come back in August for another weekend. My husband says it's now his favorite marina and price is very reasonable too. UPDATE September 2019: Can I give more than 5 stars? Never made it back last year due to weather issues but made sure to come here in May of this year and again this past week. We stayed on the marina side both of these times and absolutely loved both stays again as did our friends who came along. Jeff and his staff are top notch, efficient and super friendly. We have friends who keep their sailboat here and they love it as well. If we lived closer, this would be our home marina. Thanks, Jeff!! See you next year! Update: May 2021: We never got back to the marina in 2020 due to the construction and the pandemic. We made sure to get there early this season and spent two days May 23 and 24. The new floating docks are just beautiful as is the whole marina. Staff is great as always. Our only issue was that we tripped the breaker on the power pedestal a few times. Once it was one of our A/Cs and once it was a coffee maker but it was not even consistent. We understand that the electrical is up to the latest codes and many boats may have some issues. From my reading up on it it seems like many older boats ( ours is 2006 cruiser 42 ft) and even some newer boats can have issues so keep that in mind. We know it was not our power cords. We will definitely go back and we think we worked out how to mot trip the breakers. Update June 2021: Jeff the dock master was extremely helpful and friendly as always. After we tied up at our lovely floating slip we discovered that we tripped the breaker again on the power pedestal. We tried several different permutations of power cords, splitters and even a different pedestal but kept tripping. Our friends with a newer boat had no problem. Jeff was able to move us to a really nice slip on the T over at the boatyard side where we had no problems. I’m fact we’re thought our view was even nicer! Although it is a longer walk to the really nice bathhouse and clubhouse and the pool it is not a deal breaker at all. We definitely plan to come back since we love the marina, the staff and the town of Oxford. Meantime we will continue to look into our boat’s electrical system and our power cords to see if there is a fixable issue. Thanks again, Jeff!
We have been here many times over the past five years and came for a couple days the week before Labor Day. Dockhands Alex and John answered the radio hail right away and directed us to our slip. They offered a floating slip but we preferred the fixed dock and they put us exactly where we wanted and were very helpful and nice. Docks are in very average condition with some loose boards and some warped but they were going around making repairs. The bath house is adequate and very clean. I’ve seen others complain about no hot water but did not have that problem. Some people expect super luxurious bath house because this is a Hyatt and are disappointed but it’s average and works fine. It’s a bit of a walk to the pool but not that different from other large marinas and they will take you by golf cart if you ask. The grounds and multiple pools are gorgeous and we can bring our dogs to the grassy area near one pool so they can hang with us. The whole place is super dog friendly. A few restaurants on site are nice but our favorite is closed for the year due to COVID-19. There is a small beach with water craft and paddle boards etc for rental and bikes to rent. A full golf course, mini golf, tennis courts, Volleyball court, indoor gym add to the fun. We love this marina and were disappointed to see it so empty. It’s a great place. Come on folks, go visit! Update 2021: Marina now under management by Oasis for just the past month. The dock hands were very friendly, helpful, polite and knowledgeable. The docks are not any different but serviceable. Restrooms appeared the same other than nice fresh shower curtains and presence of shampoo, conditioner dispensers etc. nice touch. We use our own shower on our boat the ones there looked very clean and they even supply towels in the bathhouse now. They are open to suggestions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return several times over the summer.
