What good fortune we had in finding this marina. Bill was welcoming and helpful. It’s nice to meet a person who knows boating as well as he does. And he was very accommodating to our every need. This marina is tucked in an amazingly protected little cove! We sat out gale force winds here and hardly felt a thing. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat.
We took on diesel and tied to a mooring ball. Both were very positive experiences. I think the mooring field is really well laid out, and while the river has considerable currents, it was a non issue on the moorings.
What a great place to stay for a couple nights! All the conveniences are close by, and with our bikes we had a lovely time exploring Sea Pines Resort. The marina is quiet and peaceful too.
This place is really well run! It’s a wife/husband team who also live aboard at the marina, so there is nothing that evades their attention. They’re professional and courteous and friendly. The transient space was at capacity for the duration of our two night stay. Plus, the island itself is an interesting place to visit.
I hate to talk this up too much, cuz I don’t want the competition for a spot! But, I have to say that Carolina Beach is doing it right! The moorings themselves are in excellent shape, the location is quiet, and while you’re surrounded by homes, it doesn’t feel claustrophobic at all. We dinghy-ed to the dinghy dock and took a walk on the Atlantic beach side. Then later in the evening, we dinghy-ed to the town dock (tie-up for less than 3hrs), and walked to a phenomenal restaurant - “Coast”. And I have to mention that I checked in with Larry, and he was kind and helpful with info about the two dinghy docks and some pointers on points of interest.
We are rookie ICW folks, so Belhaven Marina was only our second Marina stay, but I’m afraid we’re gonna be sorely disappointed by future stays elsewhere. Gregg, the owner/operator of the marina was so great at making us feel welcome. The facilities are small, but I think that’s part of the charm. Gregg has set it up like you’re home. He’s from a Navy family so that is the theme of his very clever decorating. The bathroom is impeccably clean, and the laundry was great. There’s a nice lawn running down the pier (alongside dockage on each side) so you feel like you can grab a lawn chair and chillax. We didn’t need his assistance, but we Gregg helping another captain with a car ride somewhere. He’s laid back and service oriented. It sounds like he’s got plans to expand, and Belhaven the town is on the upswing. There’s an excellent farm to table restaurant literally 400 ft from the Marina. It’s a must.
