#3Our one night stay at the Morehead City Trans Docks would have been better if the strong SSW wind hadn't turned the water into a washing machine. When we could not stand the constant rock and roll any longer at 3am, we were fortunate to find that the empty slip next to ours hadn't been claimed so we turned our boat 90 degrees to the west and tied up using both slips, numbers 3 and 4. This allowed our houseboat to rock fore and aft instead of side to side and we were able to finally get some rest. We had reserved our slip for two nights but as the wind forecast called for more of the same, as soon as it was daylight, we went back to Radio Island and put the boat back on her trailer and left for Fayetteville. If the wind had been from any other direction, from WNW to SSE, our rating would be 5 stars for the facility and location.
Pros: peaceful overnight stay on the transient dock. There was no breeze so there were no halyards dinging on masts, no loud noises from the area around the marina. Marina staff were pleasant and professional. Water in the morning shower was just right, you just have to be patient at first. Cons: nowhere except the shower floor to put your soap or shampoo. No shelf near the sink to set items on for use. The slanted mirror was mounted too low over the sink to see anything above my chin.
Had to go to the Waterway Guide for this info: Fort Denaud Bridge Mile Marker: 108.2 Lat / Lon: N 26° 44.685' / W 081° 30.625' Bridge Type: Swing Vertical Clearance (Closed): 9.00' Horizontal Clearance: 80.00' Schedule: The draw shall open on signal; except that, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the draws shall open on signal if at least three hours notice is given. VHF Channel: 9 If you have to call 3 hours ahead of time, as of Jan 15, 2021 this is a good phone number: (863) 675-2055
This has always been a 'must stop overnight' throughout the years, even before the upgrade to the City Docks. I have been moored next to 80' power yachts here. Good food and gas available nearby.
Good food and Tiki Bar...well protected when the Lake is nasty and you must wait for improved weather.
IF the construction maintenance is completed, the remarks on the browse page should be removed for this bridge...
The following should be deleted: 'A new replacement bridge is currently under construction adjacent to the existing bridge, and as such, a close lookout for construction barges, tows and other traffic is warranted. Despite the construction,' At one time in the past a temporary bridge was constructed next to the Bridge of Lions while the old bridge was being refurbished, but that has been taken away.
