Hudson Point is a great location. Restaurants are within walking distance . The ferry to Manhattan is a short walk. You can also take this ferry across the canal to Liberty state park. Also next door to the marina is Manhattan Island Sailing club. You can take their launch out the barge anchored in NY harbor and watch the weekly sailboat races. Hudson Point does not offer much in the way of amenities but prices are more reasonable than the competition across the canal.
Sailors Haven is a good location on fire island as you can take a water taxi to the neighboring communities. The beach is a short walk and it is a nice walk through the Sunken Forest. The marina does not give much protection and boats get rocked.
Watch Hill is a great value for staying on fire island. The marina employees are helpful and will tie you up when you pull in. It would be helpful when docking if they monitored the marine radio. The bugs are not bad this year. The only complaint I have is the showers are always ice cold.
