the facility itself, and staff, as usual were wonderful. We always enjoy visiting shops, restaurants, and galleries in town. This visit was only marred by the gravel loading activities next door to the marina. A steam shovel transferring gravel to a barge created a tremendous amount of dust that coated our boat. Won't stop us from returning, but pretty annoying.
Docks were clean and there was sufficient staff to handle the holiday crowd. Didn’t use the bathrooms. Great fireworks viewing!
Zanhiser's is as good as it gets without floating docks. Dockside personnel are terrific and facilities are very clean. We appreciate the personal bathrooms. Solomons is a fun place with good food and a short walk away.
Good things: Location, great city view; Chris, best dock hand we've ever encountered; Get (that's her name), a very helpful office worker. Not so good things: wifi, didn't work; the rest of the office staff, not particularly friendly or helpful, and worst...if a facility thinks it's important to install a security lock on the gate to an inner city, high-traffic, location then it should work--if only for the peace of mind of the paying visitors. Theirs doesn't.
Both times we've stayed at Smithfield Station we were met by one of the owners who expertly tied us to floating face dock, then told us what we needed to know about the marina and Smithfield. Lovely area with friendly residents. Marina was clean, protected and quiet.
I gave them 5 stars. Not sure why Dockwa tries to force me to fill in this box when I don’t have anything else to say.
Just steps from an excellent restaurant: Spoon River. Not to be missed! Marina has charm and a good staff. We’ll managed. Little tidal change makes fixed dock easier to deal with.
Visited in May, '17. Worst marina I can recall. Staff doesn't have radios, work very limited hours, dockmaster difficult to deal with. Worst part, water faucets spew algae and no one seems to care. Ran one faucet for 15-20 minutes and didn't clear. Also, diesel is $4/gallon. (And previous reviewer is correct:weekends are for water toys and the children who run them up and down the river with no consideration of their wakes.) if you want to visit Richmond, you have no other choice, but try to limit your stay, and don't need water or diesel. Asst dockmaster, Rupert, does a good job.
