The dock master was on the pier as we arrived and confirmed our reservation and slip number. The general store was well stocked and provided us with a few items we needed. The docks were clean with functioning electric and water as advertised. A pleasant stay!

We stayed here two nights and got zero sleep. This marina is completely unprotected in a north wind. I may as well be anchored in the middle of the bay. I will NOT be returning to Sailors Haven

Just spent 10 days at Sailors Haven. Beautiful beach, clean marina, exceptional staff that went over the top to be helpful! We would go back every chance we get! Kudos to Scott who went above and beyond to help me solve a breakdown Visited sailors Haven for 8 days this past week. Our favorite place on Fire Island has not lost any of its charm. Beautiful beaches, a well kept marina and great staff. We were disappointed by the lack of effort the National Park Service has invested in upkeep. The bathrooms were poorly maintained and the showers are non functional. Another example of our tax dollars not being used for the general public.

Dock power was not compatible with my 2 phase AC needs. Dockmaster did everything he could, so no complaints about staff. Very professional and accommodating.

We enjoy Sailors Haven the most! Scott and crew run a magnificent place to enjoy. This was this past Tues night and there was only ourselves and two other boats. Two men were re-roofing the shed at end of East dock, other than that it was so quiet . We missed other couples and families but it was late Sept and we just love being at Sailors Haven . We walked the path to Cherry Grove for our first dinner at the recommended Sand Castle overlooking the ocean, then walked the ocean beach back . No matter what weather conditions, Sailors Haven is our home away from home. Thanks Scottie 🙏👍

Another great stay (11 days) at Sailors Haven. Scott and his crew so helpful getting me into the slip and tied down securely. Did not come with the right electrical hook up. No problem it was taken care of quickly and the wine/beer did not cool in the refrigerator. As mentioned once before Sailors Haven is in a great location. Really close to the beach and Sunken Forest nature walk. Great onsite store and food service/Bar. Also, only a short walk to neighboring hot spots if interested in more bars and entertainment.

Continual improvements every year by the vendor. Two issues, 1. Even though there were only 3 boats in the marina including mine on night one, we were not allowed to move over to the west side for one night to get the boat out of the rough water on the east side. 2. FINS needs to do some repairs to the boardwalks in the Sunken Forest trail, such as missing floor planks and handrails of questionable stability and splinters. Also, the roofing on the restroom building is on its last days.

Family reunion of sorts- last minute. They were able to accommodate us- gave us great instructions for docking and location. We had a lot of questions they answered promptly. It was a magical day in part for all of their help.

Great marina with easy access to the beach. Well run by Scott and his crew, always clean and tidy, and the kitchen puts out excellent breakfast and lunch. Just needs solar hot water on the roof of the bath house!

A little paradise here- we have sailed all over the Med and the Caribbean, and this is place is on our list of favorites. Scott the Dockmaster does an incredible job running the marina, store, and tasty snack bar that serves lunch and drinks - a lovely vibe. A well stocked grocery store is a 20 min walk to Cherry Grove. The marina is in the national park and has beautiful views of the bay, with charcoal grills and picnic tables. As the first ferry arrives after 10 am and last ferry leaves late afternoon, only boaters staying at the small marina are around so it’s very private in the evenings. Note the showers and bathrooms are for the public, showers are cold water and open door, so not the typical trappings of a high end marina. cell coverage is spotty and the park WiFi was not working. If a strong north wind blows the marina waters are very choppy, fortunately during our stay winds were mostly from the south so it was pretty calm.

It’s always a great time at Sailor’s Haven, all docks are in great shape, quiet evenings. Snack-bar has excellent food and the bar area is a fun area to hang out and take in the music. And not to be last but Scott the dock master really knows how to do it right, fun guy and he wants everyone to have a nice experience and want to come back.

The lights on the poles on the east dock do not work. Some of the electric stantion lights don't work either. Can the pole lights be put on a timer to go off around 12? It would provide safety and still not shine into the boats all night.

Smaller marina then most very clean quiet Scott and his dock team were helpful while docking and setting up shore power. He made sure everything was working correctly before leaving. We noticed He was very helpful with other boaters needs what ever they needed he was there to offer help. Nice walking trails definitely a bonus from other marinas as some of it was in the shade. Other boaters were very friendly and respectful. Will definitely go there again!

Great crew. Great snack bar. Great atmosphere. Can the area around the west side garbage pails be cleaned up a bit. You have to walk thru tall grass(ticks) to out garbage. The water pressure is really low.

We had a wonderful stay. Although there was some debris in the sand and the mosquitos were relentless, we enjoyed our stay. So peaceful and quiet. Never disappointed...

I was sad to see the lack of attention being paid to the beach area broken barbecues on the ground trash on the ground tremendous amount of mosquitoes. I'm not sure you can do anything about that but that was kind of sad

Sailors Haven is still a great place but the condition of the place is definitely probably the worst I have seen in the 30 years we have been going there. The showers are filled with green mold. the pull chains on the showers are missing making them unusable. The beach on the west side of the marina is a mess. Both the Park staff and the Marina staff don't seem to be doing their jobs.

To start off, a confirmed reservation for a slip takes 90% of the stress out of the equation..Scott and his staff are super and made for an enjoyable 4 days at Sailors Haven Marina.. Early fall is fabulous here, great weather, no crowds, and a comfortable secure marina even when those brisk NW winds pick up. Hopefully, we will back one more time before the end of the season. This place is a must for all boaters either living on the South Shore of Long Island or just transiting.. BTW the food concession makes a great Burger and fries..... Cheers.

Once again Scott proved to be invaluable to me upon my arrival Sat 6/17. It had been a day of scattered thunder storms and shortly before arriving the wind whipped up and anticipating my upcoming problems, Scott was waiting at my slip with helpers to help me. Unfortunately, I lost the battle to get into my assigned slip, bumped the boat next me, pulled out and Scott yelled to go to another slip wider and possibly easier to get into. Meanwhile he & helpers ran to that slip & were waiting again. As I finally got in he jumped on, grabbed my lines and went out on the bow to get the spring lines on while the helpers were taking care of the stern lines. 4 people were working while I held the boat as still as possible. It was amazing to watch and I couldn't have been more grateful to Scott & the others! To Scott it was just another part of his job to help his "guests". 👍 Thanks again Scott!

Scott is great!! He always does his best to make sure all his boaters are happy. His staff is wonderful and he's always personable. It's our favorite place. Food, drinks and atmosphere are all top notch!! Sailor's Haven is a pretty marina with great views of the Great South Bay.

great place on Fire Island been goin there for over 25 years and it never gets old--great service, knowledgeable staff . Only downside Bar was closed early 1 day and on last day of the trip (trip was 4 days),had to get a manager to make cocktails for the 8 guests II was traveling with. Steve was very efficient and helpful.

I was surprised to see that the Barbecues were all broken the majority of the picnic tables were broken. On Wednesday I went down to the bar for one of the famous mudslides that they offer and the bar was closed by 2 o’clock on Wednesday August 17th in the afternoon and on Thursday when we went back there to see if we can get those mudslides and we had to ask for a manager because again the bar was not opened. This was very disappointing to me and my husband and I six other people we were with. Thank you for your time.

Love our Sailor’s stays!

Great marina and beach, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Only negative is multiple day reservation required on weekends during high season that makes day trips harder to plan. You’ll need to wait till the morning of the day you’d like to visit to call and check on availability for single days. I can’t imagine that actually generates more business. There’s also a dock available for dropping off passengers and plenty of space in low water on both sides of marina for those looking to drop an anchor and walk to shore.

Helpful staff. Beautiful location. Easy walk on raised walkways through the Sunken Forest and to the windswept beach. Store, Great burger at the snack bar. Ice cream and a bar. Should be named Sailors Heaven!

Terrific stay. As always, the sunrises and sunsets are stunning. The beach is great too. And Scott, the dockmaster, is always super helpful. Folks next to us were a bit noisy, but very friendly and welcoming and that's all part of the experience! On our last morning we had a north wind, so a bit rocky on the departure. Folks helped us out so all went fine. We will be back!

We had such a great time at our 2 day stay. The staff was attentive and helpful. Quiet time hours were not necessarily observed though. Maybe some regular patrols would help there to keep things within reason.

Nice variety with food this year. Scott and his staff were terrific. Very enjoyable 11 days. The only loss of one star is because they open after the first ferry at around 10AM and close at 5:30PM after the last ferry.

I think it would be well served to try and keep the far north dock cleaned of all the bird poop, it's just not a healthy environment to have to walk on, all it takes is a little water and a broom to keep it clean, otherwise a great destination

Sailors Haven was great this last weekend. Scott the dockmaster went above and beyond to work with us to get set up and plugged in. The food is legit ,very good and not the beach snack food you would normally expect. The store has just about anything you might have forgotten. The forest walk was a blast. We used to be regulars years ago and it was great to be back. Doug and his crew have it better then it was.

Very annoyed about experience!!!! I booked weeks ago and asked if our slip could be changed because we did not want the corner (16) I was told it was completely booked but to keep checking if there were any cancellations that could accommodate my boat I could switch. I did weekly only to be to told sorry nothing available. I also made one last plea the night before we left. Still told nothing!!!! Only to arrive and find a friend who had SAME EXACT BOAT just week a week ago and got a middle spot. Then to add to the fire his brother called that morning and got a spot next to him!!!!!! Completely and utterly disgusted!!!!! Not happy at all!!!!

Arrived early Thursday afternoon. A storm forecast for the weekend made for an open marina. Scott, the new dockmaster met us and was very helpful. However, the bar and snack bar were closed. Apparent issue with staffing. Not a problem unless you were counting on those for your food that day. Shower area not private. Again, not a problem unless you stay for more than a day.

Dockhands were very helpful. Should probably monitor the VHF Ch 9 they display on the sign. I could not contact by VHF? Fixed docks are a bit tight but a very well protected area. I had issue with the newly designed Dock Power box once again. These new sensitive 30ma trip out cause problems with power hookup. Also, maybe invest in 30amp 120vac outlets? Needed a 50 amp adapter. I have had this issue at the block Island boat basin as well. A great place to visit. Especially at night when everyone leaves.

The change in service and amenities is unbelievable. Scott goes above and beyond to accommodate all boaters. I can’t wait to start booking for next season. Job well done Federal Government in choosing this vendor!!! Surfin Safari

Our stay at Sailor's Haven Marina was great. We hadn't been here for a few years and were surprised by the quality of the food (the chef is amazing) and the bar that is there now. Nice touch....to sit somewhere off of the boat. The showers need some work and do not have shower curtains on them if you need to shower off of the boat. Be aware, that the power cord for the boat's electric is different from many marinas. If you do not have one you can rent them at the store there. We will be back.

Had a great time at our first stay at Sailor's Haven. Traveled there with friend's and we were able to get adjoining slips. If you don't know the local waters, it can be a little tricky getting there from the inlet, but well worth it. The snack bar put out some great food, including a delicious Saturday night Captain's dinner. Thank you Janie and crew for feeding us. Arrived to late to meet the legendary Steve, who retired, but Scott, who took over, was very helpful and friendly, as was his staff. Fixed docks can make it tricky sometimes getting on or off your boat if you are not use to them. Be aware that the bathroom facilities are a short walk up the boardwalk towards the beach and are open to the public. Open cold showers only! This marina is all about the location, which is amazing.

We love the marina. It is quaint and the beach is beautiful. Snack stand food is delicious and the small general store and bar are a nice touch. There is very little shelter if you have rain and want to get off the boat. Rain gear is recommended in that case. The staff is wonderful and accommodating. The DJ was a lot of fun and overall we had an excellent time! Just a warning, if there is a north wind it becomes quite rough. Be diligent watching forecast! And… We do miss Steve as he was always very helpful and pleasant. Steve made his rounds always smiling and checking to make sure everyone is good. Scott his recent replacement is very nice as well, I’m looking forward to our next visit to Sailors! As we all know there is only one constant in life and that is change.

We had a lovely time during our stay at Sailors Haven last week. We went on the Sunken Forest tour and learned a lot about it and Fire Island. The staff was great and very helpful. The only reason I am giving my review of 4 stars is because the cell phone reception is horrible and the fact that if you want WiFi you have to pay for it. We have never paid for WiFi at any other Long Island marina we have stayed at.

All the staff is very friendly. The beach is beautiful

No bathroom or showers in the marina. Had to walk halfway to the beach for them. Food and the store closed early at 5pm. Perfect for large cruisers with full amenities. Other than that, beautiful splinter free plastic boardwalk, and what felt like a private beach after the last ferry left at 5pm.

We didn’t arrive on Monday as expected because of the storm which we were told was horrible there. We arrived on Tuesday and there was no one to assist in docking, grab lines, direct us to our spot. There was absolutely no protection from the wind which was out of the east. The boat was actually dangerous to get on and off. There was no one there to ask if we could move to east dock which was rocking somewhat less. We stayed off the boat and finally decided to go home at 4 pm as did other boats. Because of the reservation situation we lost our money for two of the three days. That marina needs to build a more protected docking situation. Even the ferry stopped running at 2:50 even though it wasn’t raining.

Fantastic ! If you have kids it's great, The beach is a short walk . Marina has a shop with cute stuff and a small restaurant you can grab a quick bite. Food was very good. The only negative I will say is it is tricky getting in with all the shallow spots. You have to stay in the channel or you will get stuck.

Every part of Fire Island is its own unique and beautiful universe, but Sailor’s Haven is hands down the BEST ! There is something just so magical about Sailor’s Haven. Its serenity, seclusion, beautiful beach and untouched nature are just some of the attractions of Sailor’s Haven. Steve and his staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome at their special place. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever experienced, you really feel like you’re ’part of the family’ being a guest there. Even the other guest seem to match the vibe, making it such an enjoyable stay. We would live here if we could ! But for now, we’ll just come to visit for the perfect getaway every chance we can ! Thank you so much for your hospitality Steve & staff, we are very much looking forward to our next visit!

WHO IS THIS DOCK MASTER STEVE? WHO HIRED HIM? Well, he is definitely the best out there. He was there when we pulled in, he was always asking how we are doing, he took our garbage to the dumpster, he was the shopkeeper, the bartender and he was there when we left. I will come back to Sailers Haven, just because of how well we were treated and cared for. I've been to dozens of marinas and never had a dockmaster as great as Steve. Thank you, Sir. Beautiful Day on the Beach!

We just got our boat and this was our first venture out of our home slip. Steve and the team at Sailors Haven were amazing. Steve helped me get tied up and figure out shore power and any of the other nagging questions I had. A super patient guy! Starting with something so small that goes a big way is that when you dock your boat name is hanging on the dock to welcome you. Steve and his crew are there to greet you and grab your lines while asking if there is anything you need, ie. ice or a frozen drink. Steve is accessible all day and always ready to serve with a smile. Thank you Steve, your amazing! The marina is clean, the sunken forest is a wonderful nature walk, there is a shop to look around, food, a bar and best of all, ice cream! We loved the clean docks and our sand area for our tent over the picnic table. A perfect get away

The Marina is in excellent shape. Everything working, clean and covid compliant. Dock attendants are courteous and efficient. The dock master, Steve is a pleasure to deal with.

Sailors Haven is a good location on fire island as you can take a water taxi to the neighboring communities. The beach is a short walk and it is a nice walk through the Sunken Forest. The marina does not give much protection and boats get rocked.

Beautiful location - the Sunken Forest walk was a highlight. Amenities are well maintained and clean - except for sand I'm the showers, but it's the beach! Steve was extremely accommodating as we had to shift plans because of a storm and remained helpful during our stay. Highly recommend.

We love sailors haven! The bathrooms are always clean. Steve is the best. He hires the best people and works hard to keep everyone happy and healthy. The food at the snack bar is chef quality!

Great secluded little spot. No ream amenities to speak of, but that’s exactly what we were looking for.

It was our first experience docking overnight anywhere and Sailors Haven was a perfect introduction. We docked on the west side which has a picnic area and you can see the sunrise on one end of the boat and the set on the other side. The snack bar was great for breakfast and lunch. People brought portable grills with them and plenty were cooking away. Can’t wait to go back.

What made this trip extra special is Steve. He cares about everyone one in the marina, making them feel welcome and if there are any issues he will attend to them quickly and efficiently without any delay. What a beautiful and heartwarming place to spend your vacation.

It was an absolute perfect day. From arrival the dock hands were immediately there and so professional and friendly. A great asset to their employers. The dock area was clean and well maintained. Really, would prefer to keep this location a secret! LOL but we had a great day. Our fault we waiting too long to purchase ice cream for my Grandson, just missed it they closed. Next Time and there will be a next time. We plan on coming often over the summer.

Sailors Haven is always a wonderful stay with all its nature. This time is was extra special meeting the manager Steve who is the nicest person I take off one star as people did not adhere to posted signs for no sitting on docks. Social distancing and or masks was never present

The staff was fantastic. The facilities were good. My only complaint was that there is no wake barrier for the entrance to the marina, and a north wind pushes the waves from the great south bay right into the marina, rocking all of the boats. I don't understand why they don't design these marinas with some kind of wake barrier, so people can actually stay overnight.

We love Sailor's Haven. It is a clean, beautiful beach and marina. We love the fact that it is family oriented and quiet. The dock hand (Hailey) is helpful and nice. We look forward to another visit.

I had called and made reservations. .....for 24 foot.....we were in slip 27 You need a shoe horn to get in there. Luckily the 42 footer untied his lines and moved out of the way . Slip #26 helped walk us in

The crew at Sailor’s Haven were fantastic! Very helpful and accommodating. This was our first boat trip there in about 12 years. Dockwa is a great site for info and reservations. We will use this service often and can’t wait for our next visit to Sailor’s Haven!

We traveled from Atlantic Highlands NJ to Sailors Haven Marina on July 19, 2019. I first called and speak to Steve, the Marina Manager, and he was most pleasant and helpful! We then booked through Dockwa and when we arrived a dock hand was there to greet, assist and check us in. We soon after met Steve and he continued to be helpful and available throughout our two days there. The Marina was nicely kept and the cafe and bar area was nice and relaxing. Our stay was Awesome!

We have been going to Sailors Haven for over thirty years. It is “our place to be.” We have raised our family here and enjoyed many summer vacations. Never before this year have we been made to feel so genuinely comfortable, as if we were a part of one big family. Seas The Day had a great experience at Sailors Haven, First Island, NY. We entered the marina and easily found our boat slip. We were pre-notified by email with our slip # and when we arrived there was a "reserve" sign with our boat's name on it. Shortly, were met by the Dock Master Steve to assist in tying up our boat, it was expertly done. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The facilities were beautifully maintained, there is a concession area with seating on picnic tables and live music was provided both Friday and Saturday nights. We have been going to sailors haven for well over 10 years We must say that Steve the new owner has been an absolute pleasure. He is definitely making changes for the better. He is a very friendly and personable man. What ever you need or inquire about he was there to help. I honestly can’t say enough about him.

We have stayed in Sailors Haven on a number of occasions this summer. The marina is lovely, the beach is a short walk away, and the sunsets on the North Dock were always breath-taking. The new reservation system is convenient and easy to use. Steve, the Marina Manager, is an awesome hard working, friendly, and efficient guy who goes out of his way for boaters and ferry visitors alike. He is "Johnny on the Spot" no matter what you need! His staff is great. The Dockmaster Hailey always has a smile! Steve has made some great changes to the Concession Stand! The new menu and cocktails are a welcome addition. So are the earlier/later hours. By keeping the Concession Stand (Sassyfrass) opened later all of the Boaters can gather together in the evening in one place! We have known many of these folks for years it was great to sit together at the concession with them. I would say my only complaint has nothing to do with the Marina Management itself but rather with the Federal Parks Department. There are no hot showers and the showers that are there have no doors. I have never been to a Marina that doesn't have showers!! The beach itself was littered with snow fencing, pilings, and other debris. Why didn't the Parks people remove that dangerous debris? In addition, there is NO HANDICAPPED ACCESS TO THIS FEDERAL PARK/BEACH! REALLY!? Pre Sandy there was a ramp to get to the beach from the boardwalk, now there are only a steep set of stairs! Shameful! The Electric Service in the Marina leaves much to be desired. There are slips that are 15, 16, 17, 18+ feet wide and they only have a single 30 amp service? Really? These slips easily accommodate 40, 50, 60 foot boats. They should have the correct Electrical hook ups!! There are a few wider slips with 50 amp service but more are needed! All slips over 11 feet wide should have two 30amp hook ups or a 30 and a 50 amp hook up! Apparently the service was replaced post Hurricane Sandy but in typical bureaucratic government fashion they didn't have the sense to update the service. To further frustrate matters Watch Hill did upgrade the service but when you go over there you need a blood transfusion by the end of your stay (mosquitoes). I hope Steve will be staying on as the Marina Manager he really is awesome! I also hope the Parks Department gets its act together and does something about the debris, shower doors, Handicapped access, electric, etc... preferably THIS WINTER!!

Steve Connor is the BEST thing to happen to Sailors Haven Marina in a long time! Never before has there been such personalized service. The reservation system is great. Slips are marked with "reserved" signs to avoid confusion. Steve tries to greet each boat as it pulls into the marina or sometime thereafter. He has created a family-like atmosphere amongst the staff and boaters, alike. The addition of adult beverages and musical entertainment for "happy hours" on weekends is his brainchild and has added to everyone's enjoyment. Steve has also hired a super new cook, Zack, and has opened the snack bar earlier for breakfast. No more waiting for the first ferry to arrive and the staff to get situated in order to get an egg sandwich. The gift shop is stocked with more useful items and souvenirs than in previous years. Kudos to whoever made the decision to award Steve the contract to run the Marina. I hope Steve will continue on at Sailors Haven for a long time.

We have been to Sailors Haven before and always loved it, but this is a different kind of review... it’s a review of their excellent service and cancellation policy. I reserved a slip a few days ago and Steve was able to get us next to two of our friends(awesome experience being able to reserve!!). Then on the day we were supposed to arrive at the marina, we woke up to nasty wind/weather conditions. We decided not to go and messaged the marina(through the Dockwa app) that we would like to cancel our reservation.... I received a response within minutes stating that we were cancelled and a full refund was issued. Can’t wait to get there next weekend!! Great service Steve... thank you!!!

Great location, marina manager is excellent had problem with the electric and he fixed it asap. He runs the place like a small inn, he walks the dock checking if everything is alright

NOT worth the exorbitant rates! Check out other options! There is reasonable anchorage on the west side of the channel in. Things they say they have but don’t really: NO showers. What they have is merely a beach rinse off. It’s outdoor and exposed, no curtain, and no hot water. NO functional pumpout. Marina staff has no idea when it was last functional or when it will be repaired. NO free wifi. A wifi service is available for those who pay a subscription fee. Power is available through an old style, seen-no-where-else-anymore plug types. Regular customers here have a specific adapter and brought it with them as they knew, in advance, what type of connector is on the pedastal. And the fees for electric are absurdly high. $14.00-$18.00 for 30 and 50 amp but only through the old plug type. This marina, in past summers a hive of summer activity, is now nearly empty most of the time. I assume, since the rates went way up this year, all the boaters that came here in previous summers, have now found more reasonable summer fun spots. This marina is essentially over priced beach parking. We are cruisers and have pulled into marinas all along the east coast and out to The Keys. Every marina we’ve used, even the most basic, offer hot showers and free wifi. I understand fresh water is a difficult proposition on this island, however, if a marina cannot cover some of the basic expectations to be found in marinas, they cannot charge fees higher than many marinas who do offer these items.

Great time as usual. Steve is doing a great job since taking over marina responsibilities this year. Hailey is always helpful with a smile as dockmaster.

Although most stayed home due to the weather forecast glad we went. Steve is awesome. So curteous and helpful he makes us feel so welcome. We basically had the marina to ourselves. We will be back soon.

Have been coming here for years. Never dissapoints always a great place to visit and relax with my family and the boats. This vacation was much needed and everyone at sailors haven was fantastic! Steve the head of operations was an awesome guy! Super nice down to earth person with a great personality always looking to better your time here and sailors haven as a whole. I’ve come here for over 10 years and it was obvious this year they stepped up and put a little time and work into the marina putting in all new poles and electrical for the boats. Pairing the Dockwa app with the reservation process for easier booking. Can’t say enough good about sailors haven steve and all the staff here. All great people and will be back in August for a weekend trip. See you soon steve!
