Our facility offers 43 deep water moorings and 15 slips in the most protected basin in the area with direct open access (no bridges) to the Gulf of Maine. We are located in a water body known as the Back Channel; it is just off the north side of the Piscataqua River mouth, across from Jamaica Island. Our mooring balls are white, stamped with the letters KPYY, and numbered 1101 up to 1143. Protected on three and a half sides, we are considered the area’s primary hurricane hole. All moorings are granite block and all ground tackle is inspected annually each spring.
Transient moorings are available for vessels up to 65 feet LOA and slips for vessels up to 60 feet LOA. Our moorings vary in weight and swing area so advanced reservations are highly recommended. No launch service is provided, so bring your dinghy. We have a dinghy dock and our restroom facility, located at our front office entrance, is open 24/7.
Kittery, along with its neighbor Portsmouth, NH (across the river), are recognized for their historic, cultural, and scenic assets as well as their many restaurants and shopping/ supply amenities. We have bikes available for guests to travel into town and their are public dinghy docks available in Portsmouth if you'd like to travel over by water.
Always the best. Staff is friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable.
The organization at Kittery Point Yacht Yard is 5 star plus. Dockmaster Jason went beyond good service when we ordered a new AB dinghy from them last Spring and then again when we had a steering breakdown over Labor Day weekend in the Kittery Point area. Jason helped us find an easy-access mooring and a technician as soon as possible. Technician William came on board and with humor and expert skills had our problem diagnosed, parts shipped in and repair accomplished within 48 hours. These people are reliable and interested in good customer service. Thanks KPYY!! S/V Seabbatical
Great protected location, friendly and helpful staff as well as extra perks such as gas grill , tables, showers and rest rooms. Will definitely book again.
The very best place to explore Kittery and Portsmouth from. Jason and the staff go above and beyond to make this a great place to stay for a day or a week!
1987 Shannon 43 Ketch. We pulled in on a mooring to wait out Henri. Back Channel is an excellent spot for a blow. Luckily it was a non-event for us. While there we read all the great reviews on KPYY. So we commissioned them to fix our engine problem of injectors, valve adjustment and transmission issue. Jason, the Dockmaster, was extremely gracious and professional setting up the work. Very upfront. A bit above average hourly rate, but as we boaters know, sometimes better to pay more for good service. Bottom line - great service and the price was fine therefore. Will, our assigned diesel mech, was awesome. He replaced our injectors on our 4000hr old Yanmar, set the valves and unfortunately couldn't do anything for the tranny issue because there aren't any parts it's so old (34yr). Will was courteous, on time, efficient and very knowledgeable. He was very methodical and left a clean work space. Loved having him aboard. The yards prices are a bit high, but for once you don't feel scammed out of high prices and crap service. So I'll say it was very fair. The work was spot on. The management was professional and really very friendly. I only have one very minor negative remark and that is there is only one head shower. They're working on that and will be addressed. Highly recommend this yard!
This is a beautiful little harbor. The marina is very small and easy to access. We didn't see the strong current that is prevalent at the marinas in Portsmouth. There isn't any wifi at the end of the dock. There is a single bathroom at the office area. It's well kept and clean. Even though the dockmaster wasn't there when we arrived, he was extremely communicative.
This is a wonderful place to stay. Jason, the Dockmaster is incredibly helpful and made sure we had everything we needed for a great stay. Our mooring was located near the entrance to Back Channel and the KPYY building. Very peaceful and pretty spot. Shower and community room were very nice. We will definitely go there again in the future.
Absolutely fabulous marina in a beautiful location. Jason, Tara, and Dave were extremely friendly and helpful with all aspects of my stay, including ordering filters and chain and advice on a diesel fuel issue I was having at the time. The moorings are very well maintained. The Back Channel location is scenic with calm waters.
The Dockmaster was very helpful and provided excellent information. Without a car it is a long walk into Kittery but for an overnight stop, it is terrific. The mooring was a little tricky to find but the basin was far better protected than I had expected and better than the next cove east which is wide open to boat wakes. I will stay at KPYY again.
wonderful quiet and scenic place to stay Jason the dockmaster was very helpful
Very charming marina - we’ll tended moorings and attentive staff. Will definitely be back.
Kittery Point Yacht Yard turned a mechanical failure into a wonderful vacation. We contacted KPYY for help to repair our fresh water pump which had sudden failure due to metal fatigue. From the first call to the greeting in the yard as were towed in and throughout our repair experience we were supported and given confidence that we and our 31 foot sailing vessel would be returning home together. Vic performed his miracle after the parts arrived when expected and we and our boat made it home. Despite the disruption and change of plans, we had a wonderful vacation and KPYY would be destination without the need for an entire repair in the future. Gorgeous place. We walked for a great meal at On the Shells at Frisbee Point. We were safe and in good hands at KPYY. Thank you Jason and Vic and all staff for your calm and comforting support during a stressful situation. We can say we had a great vacation!
I cannot recommed KPYY highly enough. I had a leaky and intractable stuffing box on my 38.8 Bristol sloop--and at the same time had to head back to SE Mass. for a family emergency. I was having nightmares about leaving a leaking boat for 2 or 3 days. ... The staff at Kittery Point Yacht Yard (in particular Jason, Tara and Vic) were incredibly understanding, kind and helpful: despite a busy schedule they sent their highly experienced mechanic, Vic, the next morning, and he took care of the problem in short order. If you're ever sailing in the Portsmouth area, and need repairs, a mooring, a slip, or just a helping hand, KPYY is the place to go. George Foy S/V Eleanna
Great place! Jason was super accommodating and helpful with our stay. Marina is clean and nice, great place to enjoy Maine. Thank you KPYY!!
Always great to be at KPYY. Very nice facility and moorings. Jason and crew are very helpful and friendly.
Strong current but mooring field is calm and quiet, good for catching up on rest. Facilities are simple but adequate and clean (one unisex toilet/shower room, lounge area with coffee, wifi, book exchange). Nice walk into Kittery or to Fort McClary. Very helpful and friendly staff. This is not our first, or last, time here.
It was great, Jason came out to greet us at our mooring. Lovely evening, even if you are one of the first moorings going in
Nice quiet location.
Fantastic marina with dockage and moorings in a well-protected cove. Nice areas for walking. Jason’s customer service is second to none. We will be back!
Quite and beautiful moorings. dockmaster Jason accomodating as always. highly recommend
Beautiful Harbor. Extremely organized by receiving email with mooring field map and assignment. Jason the manager made every effort to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. Lovely walk into Historic Kittery. We will definitely make Kittery Point a stop over in the future.
Great service and fantastic location! They accommodated us on short notice at a very busy time. Jason is the best!
We decided to stay here as it looked like there was more protection versus our previous stay at Portsmouth Yacht Club which could be a bit rolly with the traffic going by and the currents. There was definitely more protection as it was significantly less rolly. However, they do pack a lot of moorings into a small area. So, a bit congested as you approach including lobster pots in the mooring field. However, received a map beforehand with our assigned number so we knew where to go. No launch service, but dinghy dock at marina is available. Nothing retail within a short walking distance, but brought our bikes on shore to run some errands and enjoy a meal out.
This was our second stay at kpyy. As usual they are very accommodating, great locations and make the process seamless through Dockwa. Thanks Jason!
Without a doubt the Best Pl., I’ve stayed in Maine. Friendly and helpful staff made sure we had everything we needed. With Jason overseeing operations the place is clean well-maintained and his Staff is well l trained. Tom A
Nice little marina. We were assigned the ball closest to the entrance which we really liked since we are a bigger boat. Made for easy access and exit. We just came in for a night to sleep and drop off some garbage, no complaints. We do have a very tall bow so picking up the mooring line was a bit of a struggle but most boats would have no issue
The Back Channel is a very calm location to stop. Jason the manager could not have been nicer. He sent us a mooring field map in advance so we knew exactly where to go. Grabbing a mooring there is a little challenging with the current and the pots but absolutely doable. Dinghy ride to Chauncy Creek Lobster Pound is a plus.
Great staff. Quite mooring area
Jason was very helpful. Great stop on our way Down East. Will definately be back!
Beautiful, friendly, quiet mooring and a safe harbor! Jason was very accommodating especially during these COVID times. We were not able to go ashore since we are from RI but thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. Great inlets to explore by dingy too!
What a great, understated and hidden spot...our slip neighbors could not have been more friendly and Jason could not have been more helpful...this is definitely a spot that we will return to. Best regards, Bridging The Gap III
serene spot for boat. nice walk to the revitalized Frisbee Wharf with outdoor pub and upscale Bistro Restaurant
Great place to pull in. Jason was great! We wish we had more time! Will come again. Thank you!!
We had a great experience at KPYY. The mooring field is incredibly calm and quiet. Jason and the staff at the yard were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend picking up a mooring at KPYY if you are in the Kittery/Portsmouth area. One recommendation for anyone wanting to visit Portsmouth from the mooring field, don’t bother running a dinghy over to Prescott park. Crossing the Piscataqua River in a small dinghy can be a little dicey and your reward is to pay $8/hr to dock your dinghy at the Prescott Park town docks. Much faster, more comfortable, safer, and likely cheaper to just Uber from the yard for $10-$15. We will definitely stop here again.
Great facility, great people! We had engine problems in the middle of our trip, and Kittery Point Yacht Yard was able to work us into their service schedule, fix our engine, and be a very nice place to stop while we waited for repairs. The yard is just the right size--small enough for personalized service, but large enough to have specialized craftsmen who can do any job well. We picked up one of their moorings in Back Channel and were pleased. The moorings are in good repair, and Back Channel is very sheltered from the weather. It is also sheltered from all the wake in the Piscataqua River, and the local fishing boats all passed through the mooring field at a slow bell, which is unusual in our experience in Maine waters. We highly recommend KPYY, whether it's just for a mooring for the night, or for any kind of repair. Thank you so much, Jason, Mike, and all the crew!
Used a mooring ball for two nights. Very easy pickup and secure during our stay. Visited the marina facilities and obtained a needed fuse for our generator. Took an easy and beautiful walk into Kittery and enjoyed lunch at the Beach Pea Bakery. Would recommend Kittery Point Yacht Yard.
Excellent on all counts.
Hi, After a hiatus from sailing and I planned to return to the sea with a Catalina I purchased. KPYY in the back channel accepted my reservation request for several days of mooring. However, while I had checked out my outboard motors for the small sail boat and dinghy; after launching the 25 footer in the Piscataquis river far upstream from the KPYY mooring site both engines failed. Lucky for me KPYY has a service location in Elliot Maine a few 100 yards form my launch point. Dave at the Elliot KPYY extended the courtesies of a short tow to his service dock where I restored my engine. I made my way to my Kittery KPYY, mooring. I found it to be a quiet accommodating location. There I found on shore crew accommodations well provisioned with ice, showers and convenient bicycle transportation. I have stayed at several marina and rate KPYY at step above all. Harold
Dingy down to the second bridge where there’s a dock and it’s a short walk to a local meat market and a produce store with local products and a decent wine selection. Nice Moorings with a swift current and shady lanes.
Moorings are fine, location is beautiful but nobody answered our inquiries and we were unable to access the facilities because we were not given information about how to get in, despite calling and messaging them on Dockwa.
Beautiful location. Quiet. Convenient and nice guest area by the shower, with a coffee machine. Trash and recycling convenient. Walk to town with restaurants and shops 1.3 miles.
We had a nice stay. It was quiet. Jason was very helpful with information emailed to us while enroute. Our ETA was after the office closed.
Great stay at KPYY Staff are very professional and friendly. Jason runs a great yard and is a pleasure to work with. Moorings and docks are in perfect condition and very protected from Wind and wakes. Internet was a little spotty sometimes. Only place in Portsmouth area I would stay.
Great location, dock master Jason, contacted us 2 hours before arrival and made the tie up easy. He explained the facility layout. It was quiet ,, just what we were looking for. We will be back ,,, Thanks Jason!!!!L
One of the smoothest stays we’ve ever had on a mooring. Can’t say enough about Jason. Emailed map and mooring assignment right away and was there to greet and help when we arrived. A definite go back to.
Reserved a night on a mooring to rest for the night on our trip from Noank CT to Portland Maine. Very well maintained Arrived at 6:00 PM on a Sunday and the facility was closed, but Manager Jason had reached out to via e-mail to ensure that I was familiar with his mooring field, the lay out of the facility, and the acces codes. Only inconvenience was there being 1 bathroom w/shower. It took quite some time for the 5 of us to cycle thru and quite a wait the next morning. Additionally l would note that we were unsuccessfull hailing a cab/Uber/Lyft when trying to go into town for dinner. The one cab that would come out had a 45 minute lead time. We did however find a Chinese restaurant that delivers and feasted in the Yard Lounge Thanks KPYY!
