Our facility offers 43 deep water moorings and 9 slips in the most protected basin in the area with direct open access (no bridges) to the Gulf of Maine. We are located in a water body known as the Back Channel; it is just off the north side of the Piscataqua River mouth, across from Jamaica Island. Our mooring balls are white, stamped with the letters KPYY, and numbered 1101 up to 1143. Protected on three and a half sides, we are considered the area’s primary hurricane hole. All moorings are granite block and all ground tackle is inspected annually each spring.
Transient moorings are available for vessels up to 65 feet LOA and slips for vessels up to 60 feet LOA. Our moorings vary in weight and swing area so advanced reservations are highly recommended. No launch service is provided, so bring your dinghy. We have a dinghy dock and our restroom facility (with shower), located at our front office entrance, is open 24/7.
Kittery, along with its neighbor Portsmouth, NH (across the river), are recognized for their historic, cultural, and scenic assets as well as their many restaurants and shopping/ supply amenities. There are public docks available in Pepperrell Cove as well as in Portsmouth if you'd like to travel over by water.
Very nicely run marina with friendly and courteous staff. We enjoyed our stay here as we traveled south from Boothbay and Harpswell.
Great place and even better staff. One of the best around!
Small quiet and very unassuming place. Jason Tittle is a warm and knowledgeable manager. Very accommodating staff.
Dockmaster Jason and office manager Tara could not be more helpful! The courtesy and professionalism are always appreciated. And, Safe Harbor Kittery point yacht yard’s courtesy car is certainly a nice bonus! It sure helps with provisioning! I highly recommend Safe Harbor Kittery point yacht yard to all boaters.
Another great stay at SHKP! Jason is incredibly attentive and helpful. The marina is quaint and quiet as is the location. Facilities are top notch. Took advantage of the courtesy car to do a little local sightseeing and have lunch out with friends. Can’t wait to come back!
Very nice marina. Jason is professional, proactive and kind. Strange eddy currents around mooring balls make for some interesting swing behaviors. Nice clubhouse with coffee, ice, bikes and a nearly new courtesy car all included. Had a family feel even though part of Safe Harbor. Easy dinghy ride to downtown Portsmouth (Prescott Park).
Very responsive, helpful, nice quiet mooring as i transited north. Highly Recommended.
Excellent service, easy in and out . Had a very quiet day. Current and lobster traps were a concern but not an emergency issue. Jason the dock master is outstanding
We couldn't ha e had a better welcome and stay. The staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable and welcome. We will definitely be back soon.
Nice quiet marina to stay on your boat. Helpful staff and good amenities.
Nice and quiet location, yet close to town (Portsmouth). Used marina bike to get to town. Friendly and helpful staff (Jason).
Old school, friendly boatyard and marina. Easy in and out. Most importantly the service was great. Quaint and friendly. Only issue is the walking distance to restaurants, sights etc. Ubers don exist in Kittery.
A bit tough getting on the mooring in a strong current but made it! We were on mooring #1 which is at the entrance and the most exposed. There are a lot of traps around so be on the lookout as some slightly below the water in current. The dinghy dock is very accessible. Tara is fantastic and the courtesy car is incredible. Jason also very helpful.
Hesitate to give this a five star review because we want to keep it all for ourselves. This is one of the best places we ever travel to!!!
We were pleasantly surprised how nice this marina is, and the calm waters while docked at Kittery Point Marina. Jason, Tara and Cher are helpful and welcoming. Kittery is a charming town, we visited Fort MCclary, Seapoint Beach and Frisbees for dinner. After departing, we boated over to Prescott Park in Portsmouth. We even decided to store our boat on the hard here during the winter. We look forward to our return.
Jason, the harbor master and Tara, the office person were terrific. Loaner car, secure mooring very convenient to me dock and marina and a very nice bathroom/shower let us accomplish all our tasks in Pt Kittery easily. Interesting town and city (Portsmouth). Thanks for the great service- see you on our trip home.
Quick and clear communication including a map of the mooring field and a list of local resources and contact information. Mooring appeared in good condition and appropriately sized. Even though we were on their most exposed mooring due to our size we had a very peaceful evening once the weekend traffic abated.
What a terrific spot. Our first visit to Maine and Kittery Point was the best place to start. Loaner bikes, locks and helmets made the trip even better.
Best Marina ever! They had a loaner car to use, 2 bikes to ride around, great customer service, and lots of nearby services if you need boat parts, which we did. Very cute, very clean. The staff was so kind in helping us sort out our issues after our starter burned out. Definitely going back again!
Always great to be at KPYY. Very nice facility and moorings. Jason and crew are very helpful and friendly.
We had a great stay! A nice clean simple facility with most everything a transient needs, even a loaner car! Jason and Tara went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Unfortunately they have only one mooring to accommodate a boat our size (44’ cat).
Got there late in the day after communicating with the Dockmaster a few times on our way in...he stayed late and helped us tie up. Very friendly...Free ice, clean bathroom and shower and close to town with a few restaurants. Would definitely go back!
Great setup, helpful dockmaster, nice common room.
Tara and Jason are terrific boat people who are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The marina only has moorings but the location is well-protected and quite beautiful. From the looks of their yard, they provide high levels of service. Highly recommended!
Excellent! Great pre-arrival information on the mooring field. Friendly staff on arrival. New very clean facilities.
Great service, quiet location, nice amenities, but those without motorized dinghies, start lifting weights now. When not slack, the tide runs really fast!
Jason is a terrific dockmaster. He came out the morning after our late arrival to check on us and inform us of all the amenities at our disposal. We used the free bikes and went to downtown Portsmouth which was fun. The mooring field is very peaceful compared to the Portsmouth Yacht Club mooring field which gets a lot of wakes. We highly recommend Safe Harbor Kittery Point.
An excellent facility with incredibly helpful staff and pre-arrival info. Highly recommend.
Extremely good service! Jason was helpful and informative, talked us through our first mooring after 5700 miles! Peaceful and beautiful, I wish we could have stayed longer.
A nice little boat yard with a very friendly and helpful staff. Jason, the dock master, is very responsive on Dockwa.
Great protected harbor. The staff are really nice and helpful. The place is very clean everywhere. Look forward to staying there on the way back from our trip. ******
Beautiful marina and facilities with amazing sunsets on the deck. Dockmaster Jason is excellent.
very friendly and helpful dockmaster
Very nice marina and moorings. Well protected. Dockmaster Jason was great - communicated and ensured everything was ok! Look forward to returning!
Excellent attention from all levels of the staff. Thank you!
Jason was great. Got us right to our mooring. Assured us it was good for us as we are 60 feet 54 tons. No problem. He came out to the boat and introduced him self and gave us our welcome bag. Good old New England hospitality. Hope to stop in again. MV Dauntless
The staff were great and very accommodating. While there is much less current than the Portsmouth side, we still spun in all directions unpredictably (to us anyway).
Very protected location and great staff.
Very accommodating. Dockmaster went out of his way to welcome us. Excellent communication!
Excellent staff. Nice facility
Staff was amazing, helpful and just nice people
Peaceful calm quiet quaint mooring field. Warm welcome with helpful local info. Easy pump out and water access.
Friendliest and best customer service I have encountered from a marina. Jason Tittle sent a mooring map with explicit instructions on where my mooring was. This was so helpful as I have never been there and singlehand. After settled, Jason came to the boat with a gift bag and marina info. Lounge and shower was reslly clean. Office staff also friendly and welcoming. Used one of their free loaner bikes to go into town. Really enjoyed my stay here and look forward to going back.
Small, friendly marina in a safe harbor. Full service boatyard with talented tradesmen.
Very nice small marina - bicycles - showers - easy to get to town- also they can help arrange repairs- however # 01 transit mooring ball is at the entrance and gets wave and wind activity- ask them to put you further in . Also pump out also if you are in need of repairs has available large network of specialists
A gem of spot on the Piscataqua R if you prefer quiet to crowds in Pepperell Cove. Bike the mile into town with Walgreens, Ace hardware, banks and great restaurants available. Loved the info Jason provided us with our rez confirmation - a map of the mooring field showing our assigned mooring! Why dont all marinas do this? He also came out to introduce himself and delivwr an info package. Top notch treatment!
Friendly staff, Jason greeted us on our arrival. This was our second trip, and will be back again.
Harbor Master Jason was great
Stayed on a mooring. Great communications - thorough and quick. Attractive setting. Calm waters here in Back Channel with minor current. Cool Yacht Yard. Super clean head/shower. Enjoyed visiting Kittery and Portsmouth from here. Will return!
Excellent facilities, great people, fair price
Great welcome from Jason and his team. We received a map with our mooring number immediately after confirmation making our approach easy. On top local boaters respect the No wake zone and its rare. Dinghy dock very close and accessible plus courtesy bikes to visit Portsmouth and Kittery. Farmer market Sunday morning, pharmacy and ACE hardware… we highly recommend SH at Kittery Point.
Jason is always very helpful and readily available. Margaret was also great. The facility is immaculate and the welcoming center and deck are lovely. The boaters who spend the summer here were wonderful giving us a hand as we docked. We will definitely continue to recommend Kittery Point to our friends.
Absolutely Outstanding! The dockmaster Jason gave great communication regarding our stay. The harbor was dead calm and comfortable. Highly recommended. We will stay again.
First the “marina”. Kittery Yacht Yard is a new Safe Harbor acquisition. Very nice people. Easy to work with through Dockwa. Jason, Dockmaster checked in with us on way in and on day of departure. Supplied us with local information. Very few docks and only a handful of mooring balls. The Kittery YY has two facilities and specialize in repairs, refits. Clean facilities. Only one bathroom and small shower, for now. Jason says there are plans for a guest lounge with a couple showers coming soon. We stayed on a mooring ball. The current rips through the channel. The dinghy docks are full of permanent dinks so it can be hard to nudge in. Would definitely return. A reference to loaner bikes on their web sight is pre-covid and incorrect. Hopefully they will bring them back. Second, the area. Kittery/Portsmouth is a terrific stop. There are some stores and restaurants a long walk or short bike ride from the boat yard. We dinghied to Warren’s Lobster House in Kittery, has a dinghy dock. No other place I could find to dock in Kittery. In Portsmouth you need to see the Strawberry Bank exhibits. Well worth a half day or more. You can dock at the north set of docks operated by the Portsmouth Harbormaster (look for “Portsmouth Love Wall” on Google Maps). We were there off season and were not charged the $4/hour fee thankfully. Call ahead. Strong currents. Town has many restaurants. But the ones on the water don’t allow docking, even for dinghies.
Pretty well protected mooring field. The moorings are fairly close together in a river with strong tidal flows and boats pointing every which-way when tides and wind are not together. We didn't use the amenities. It is quite a way from downtown Portsmouth but Kittery is walking distance and nice. We were happy to get a last minute mooring, and dock master Jason was a pleasure.
Nice, friendly, professional small yard. Good protected moorings, pretty spot!
Quiet and beautiful. Jason came by to welcome us - how nice! Very protected mooring.
Our stay at Safe Harbor Kittery Point was 5-Stars! ⭐️ Jason is a perfect example of superior customer service. He called us before our arrival to check in and provided us with specific details about our mooring and the community room. Thank you! We will be back! 😊⛵️
Jason was very helpful! Great stop on our way down east.
We took a mooring here for one night through Dockwa and Jason from the marina immediately sent us great information on the moorings and the area. We visited the office where Tara showed us the cruiser amenities (nice, clean facilities), talked about the area and provided more information about the area. Both Tara and Jason were so helpful and nice. We walked into Kittery and found some shops, eateries and a great butcher (Maine Meats) that had a huge section and offered to vacuum pack our purchases. The anchorage in Back Bay was tranquil and picturesque. We would highly recommend this marina.
I just added to my favorites !! Excellent communication from Jason and a beautiful, well maintenance marina We will see you again very soon!
Jason is an awesome dock master. He emailed us detailed information ahead of time and was extremely responsive when we had questions.
Tara & Jason are fantastic! We were greeted warmly & professionally and our three night stay on the mooring could not have been better. Everywhere you look, they views are beautiful! We look forward to staying again. Five stars are not enough!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Picture perfect setting. Short ride to dinghy dock. Be aware of lots of floating grasses during ebbing current which did plug up the raw water filter of the genset of our boat. Perhaps this happens during springtime only.
Really enjoyable visit. Great directions to the dock, Justin was very friendly and helpful, thank you.
We had an issue with our boat while on a short trip to the Portsmouth area. When we called Kittery Pont on a Friday morning to request service I was not expecting the great response I received. Jason was very courteous and professional and said he would see what he could do and would get back to me. Sure enough he called back within the hour and sent over one of his best technicians (Tim), to troubleshoot the problem. Tim arrived on schedule and was able to quickly diagnosis and correct the issue. I was very happy with the response from Jason and the great service from Tim.
Always the best. Staff is friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable.
The organization at Kittery Point Yacht Yard is 5 star plus. Dockmaster Jason went beyond good service when we ordered a new AB dinghy from them last Spring and then again when we had a steering breakdown over Labor Day weekend in the Kittery Point area. Jason helped us find an easy-access mooring and a technician as soon as possible. Technician William came on board and with humor and expert skills had our problem diagnosed, parts shipped in and repair accomplished within 48 hours. These people are reliable and interested in good customer service. Thanks KPYY!! S/V Seabbatical
Great protected location, friendly and helpful staff as well as extra perks such as gas grill , tables, showers and rest rooms. Will definitely book again.
The very best place to explore Kittery and Portsmouth from. Jason and the staff go above and beyond to make this a great place to stay for a day or a week!
1987 Shannon 43 Ketch. We pulled in on a mooring to wait out Henri. Back Channel is an excellent spot for a blow. Luckily it was a non-event for us. While there we read all the great reviews on KPYY. So we commissioned them to fix our engine problem of injectors, valve adjustment and transmission issue. Jason, the Dockmaster, was extremely gracious and professional setting up the work. Very upfront. A bit above average hourly rate, but as we boaters know, sometimes better to pay more for good service. Bottom line - great service and the price was fine therefore. Will, our assigned diesel mech, was awesome. He replaced our injectors on our 4000hr old Yanmar, set the valves and unfortunately couldn't do anything for the tranny issue because there aren't any parts it's so old (34yr). Will was courteous, on time, efficient and very knowledgeable. He was very methodical and left a clean work space. Loved having him aboard. The yards prices are a bit high, but for once you don't feel scammed out of high prices and crap service. So I'll say it was very fair. The work was spot on. The management was professional and really very friendly. I only have one very minor negative remark and that is there is only one head shower. They're working on that and will be addressed. Highly recommend this yard!
This is a beautiful little harbor. The marina is very small and easy to access. We didn't see the strong current that is prevalent at the marinas in Portsmouth. There isn't any wifi at the end of the dock. There is a single bathroom at the office area. It's well kept and clean. Even though the dockmaster wasn't there when we arrived, he was extremely communicative.
This is a wonderful place to stay. Jason, the Dockmaster is incredibly helpful and made sure we had everything we needed for a great stay. Our mooring was located near the entrance to Back Channel and the KPYY building. Very peaceful and pretty spot. Shower and community room were very nice. We will definitely go there again in the future.
Absolutely fabulous marina in a beautiful location. Jason, Tara, and Dave were extremely friendly and helpful with all aspects of my stay, including ordering filters and chain and advice on a diesel fuel issue I was having at the time. The moorings are very well maintained. The Back Channel location is scenic with calm waters.
The Dockmaster was very helpful and provided excellent information. Without a car it is a long walk into Kittery but for an overnight stop, it is terrific. The mooring was a little tricky to find but the basin was far better protected than I had expected and better than the next cove east which is wide open to boat wakes. I will stay at KPYY again.
wonderful quiet and scenic place to stay Jason the dockmaster was very helpful
Very charming marina - we’ll tended moorings and attentive staff. Will definitely be back.
Kittery Point Yacht Yard turned a mechanical failure into a wonderful vacation. We contacted KPYY for help to repair our fresh water pump which had sudden failure due to metal fatigue. From the first call to the greeting in the yard as were towed in and throughout our repair experience we were supported and given confidence that we and our 31 foot sailing vessel would be returning home together. Vic performed his miracle after the parts arrived when expected and we and our boat made it home. Despite the disruption and change of plans, we had a wonderful vacation and KPYY would be destination without the need for an entire repair in the future. Gorgeous place. We walked for a great meal at On the Shells at Frisbee Point. We were safe and in good hands at KPYY. Thank you Jason and Vic and all staff for your calm and comforting support during a stressful situation. We can say we had a great vacation!
I cannot recommed KPYY highly enough. I had a leaky and intractable stuffing box on my 38.8 Bristol sloop--and at the same time had to head back to SE Mass. for a family emergency. I was having nightmares about leaving a leaking boat for 2 or 3 days. ... The staff at Kittery Point Yacht Yard (in particular Jason, Tara and Vic) were incredibly understanding, kind and helpful: despite a busy schedule they sent their highly experienced mechanic, Vic, the next morning, and he took care of the problem in short order. If you're ever sailing in the Portsmouth area, and need repairs, a mooring, a slip, or just a helping hand, KPYY is the place to go. George Foy S/V Eleanna
Great place! Jason was super accommodating and helpful with our stay. Marina is clean and nice, great place to enjoy Maine. Thank you KPYY!!
Strong current but mooring field is calm and quiet, good for catching up on rest. Facilities are simple but adequate and clean (one unisex toilet/shower room, lounge area with coffee, wifi, book exchange). Nice walk into Kittery or to Fort McClary. Very helpful and friendly staff. This is not our first, or last, time here.
Nice quiet location.
Fantastic marina with dockage and moorings in a well-protected cove. Nice areas for walking. Jason’s customer service is second to none. We will be back!
Quite and beautiful moorings. dockmaster Jason accomodating as always. highly recommend
Beautiful Harbor. Extremely organized by receiving email with mooring field map and assignment. Jason the manager made every effort to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. Lovely walk into Historic Kittery. We will definitely make Kittery Point a stop over in the future.
Great service and fantastic location! They accommodated us on short notice at a very busy time. Jason is the best!
We decided to stay here as it looked like there was more protection versus our previous stay at Portsmouth Yacht Club which could be a bit rolly with the traffic going by and the currents. There was definitely more protection as it was significantly less rolly. However, they do pack a lot of moorings into a small area. So, a bit congested as you approach including lobster pots in the mooring field. However, received a map beforehand with our assigned number so we knew where to go. No launch service, but dinghy dock at marina is available. Nothing retail within a short walking distance, but brought our bikes on shore to run some errands and enjoy a meal out.
This was our second stay at kpyy. As usual they are very accommodating, great locations and make the process seamless through Dockwa. Thanks Jason!
Without a doubt the Best Pl., I’ve stayed in Maine. Friendly and helpful staff made sure we had everything we needed. With Jason overseeing operations the place is clean well-maintained and his Staff is well l trained. Tom A
Nice little marina. We were assigned the ball closest to the entrance which we really liked since we are a bigger boat. Made for easy access and exit. We just came in for a night to sleep and drop off some garbage, no complaints. We do have a very tall bow so picking up the mooring line was a bit of a struggle but most boats would have no issue
The Back Channel is a very calm location to stop. Jason the manager could not have been nicer. He sent us a mooring field map in advance so we knew exactly where to go. Grabbing a mooring there is a little challenging with the current and the pots but absolutely doable. Dinghy ride to Chauncy Creek Lobster Pound is a plus.
Great staff. Quite mooring area
Beautiful, friendly, quiet mooring and a safe harbor! Jason was very accommodating especially during these COVID times. We were not able to go ashore since we are from RI but thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. Great inlets to explore by dingy too!
What a great, understated and hidden spot...our slip neighbors could not have been more friendly and Jason could not have been more helpful...this is definitely a spot that we will return to. Best regards, Bridging The Gap III
serene spot for boat. nice walk to the revitalized Frisbee Wharf with outdoor pub and upscale Bistro Restaurant
Great place to pull in. Jason was great! We wish we had more time! Will come again. Thank you!!
We had a great experience at KPYY. The mooring field is incredibly calm and quiet. Jason and the staff at the yard were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend picking up a mooring at KPYY if you are in the Kittery/Portsmouth area. One recommendation for anyone wanting to visit Portsmouth from the mooring field, don’t bother running a dinghy over to Prescott park. Crossing the Piscataqua River in a small dinghy can be a little dicey and your reward is to pay $8/hr to dock your dinghy at the Prescott Park town docks. Much faster, more comfortable, safer, and likely cheaper to just Uber from the yard for $10-$15. We will definitely stop here again.
Great facility, great people! We had engine problems in the middle of our trip, and Kittery Point Yacht Yard was able to work us into their service schedule, fix our engine, and be a very nice place to stop while we waited for repairs. The yard is just the right size--small enough for personalized service, but large enough to have specialized craftsmen who can do any job well. We picked up one of their moorings in Back Channel and were pleased. The moorings are in good repair, and Back Channel is very sheltered from the weather. It is also sheltered from all the wake in the Piscataqua River, and the local fishing boats all passed through the mooring field at a slow bell, which is unusual in our experience in Maine waters. We highly recommend KPYY, whether it's just for a mooring for the night, or for any kind of repair. Thank you so much, Jason, Mike, and all the crew!
Used a mooring ball for two nights. Very easy pickup and secure during our stay. Visited the marina facilities and obtained a needed fuse for our generator. Took an easy and beautiful walk into Kittery and enjoyed lunch at the Beach Pea Bakery. Would recommend Kittery Point Yacht Yard.
Excellent on all counts.
Hi, After a hiatus from sailing and I planned to return to the sea with a Catalina I purchased. KPYY in the back channel accepted my reservation request for several days of mooring. However, while I had checked out my outboard motors for the small sail boat and dinghy; after launching the 25 footer in the Piscataquis river far upstream from the KPYY mooring site both engines failed. Lucky for me KPYY has a service location in Elliot Maine a few 100 yards form my launch point. Dave at the Elliot KPYY extended the courtesies of a short tow to his service dock where I restored my engine. I made my way to my Kittery KPYY, mooring. I found it to be a quiet accommodating location. There I found on shore crew accommodations well provisioned with ice, showers and convenient bicycle transportation. I have stayed at several marina and rate KPYY at step above all. Harold
Dingy down to the second bridge where there’s a dock and it’s a short walk to a local meat market and a produce store with local products and a decent wine selection. Nice Moorings with a swift current and shady lanes.
Moorings are fine, location is beautiful but nobody answered our inquiries and we were unable to access the facilities because we were not given information about how to get in, despite calling and messaging them on Dockwa.
Beautiful location. Quiet. Convenient and nice guest area by the shower, with a coffee machine. Trash and recycling convenient. Walk to town with restaurants and shops 1.3 miles.
We had a nice stay. It was quiet. Jason was very helpful with information emailed to us while enroute. Our ETA was after the office closed.
Great stay at KPYY Staff are very professional and friendly. Jason runs a great yard and is a pleasure to work with. Moorings and docks are in perfect condition and very protected from Wind and wakes. Internet was a little spotty sometimes. Only place in Portsmouth area I would stay.
Great location, dock master Jason, contacted us 2 hours before arrival and made the tie up easy. He explained the facility layout. It was quiet ,, just what we were looking for. We will be back ,,, Thanks Jason!!!!L
One of the smoothest stays we’ve ever had on a mooring. Can’t say enough about Jason. Emailed map and mooring assignment right away and was there to greet and help when we arrived. A definite go back to.
Reserved a night on a mooring to rest for the night on our trip from Noank CT to Portland Maine. Very well maintained Arrived at 6:00 PM on a Sunday and the facility was closed, but Manager Jason had reached out to via e-mail to ensure that I was familiar with his mooring field, the lay out of the facility, and the acces codes. Only inconvenience was there being 1 bathroom w/shower. It took quite some time for the 5 of us to cycle thru and quite a wait the next morning. Additionally l would note that we were unsuccessfull hailing a cab/Uber/Lyft when trying to go into town for dinner. The one cab that would come out had a 45 minute lead time. We did however find a Chinese restaurant that delivers and feasted in the Yard Lounge Thanks KPYY!
